Old fashioned hotel esque feeling hostel, food is okay, rooms are rather old depending on wihch building you get though thr commons area is quite nice.

It is the UBC dorms turned into a hostel during the summer and exactly what one would expect from a university dorm. Unfortunately, there is no wifi in the rooms.

Terrible hostel. I came into this hostel enjoying that it wasn't right downtown. It seems like it would be a nice place to stay. Quieter, peaceful, more relaxing, etc.

Unfortunately the last 2 nights there's been a constant vibrating/humming coming from right beside my bed in the wall. That noise wasn't there when we first arrived, and nothing has appeared to change since our first couple days so idk..

The rooms also get unbearably cold. We ended up having to tell the front desk, and they provided us with a spare heater.. Which has done the job well, but it shouldn't be necessary to ask. Furthermore the hallways are still unbearably cold when you leave, so I'd suggest showering the night before because it is a tad warmer..

There laundry machines DO NOT accept coins. Instead you have to get a card for $5 and then add extra money onto the card.. So don't let the $1.25 price-tag fool you when you walk by. It is NOT that cheap after buying the card and then adding money onto the card.

There is next to nothing to do on campus. The fast food all closes around 7pm, and then you have to walk another 10-15 minutes off campus to find something else.

You do have to make your own bed when you arrive (no fitted sheet, kind of weird?) and there is NO wifi access in your room. You have to go to the common area to access it. The TV also didn't work, and while the guy at the front desk said he would have someone look at it.. Well he hasn't.

While I assume everyone is an adult who stays here, it is unnerving to have a foot and a half gap in the co-ed showers/bathroom stalls (and cracks in the doors). We lucked out with not having anyone else here our first 4 nights, but people can be creeps. In Halifax they had floor-to-ceiling shower stalls in their gender neutral bathrooms.. If you're going to do something, do it right.

This place could be amazing, but it is severely lacking when it comes to a lot of different things. We stayed at a hostel downtown for $15 less a night, and it had wifi, better private showers/bathrooms (no gaps in the doors), was close to the waterfront, buses, malls, chinatown, etc, and the laundry didn't require $5 to get a card..

Save your time and find somewhere else honestly.

Clean and tidy. Rooms are decent for one person. The only negative aspects are far from attractions and common washroom.

2 beds 1 person per bed separate sleeping rules (even for married couples, partners, significant other).

1 bed is only allowed 1 person for that room more sleeping rules

No wifi

No parking unless you pay on top of paying for a room

Each room smells like a library storage room with a urine mustiness

You also have to make your own bed before you can sleep on the bed

Also you can't get refunds, once you get the key and even if you aren't satisfied with everything. Too bad!

Also I just went to the kitchen area and it smells just like gangrene and China town mix together.

Also I think our next door neighbour is smoking marijuana.

I had such a fantastic stay at this facility! The front desk and cleaning staff were courteous and professional, the amenities were just what I needed, it's incredibly affordable, and the location is amazing. It's a private dorm room right in the heart of UBC campus, surrounded by tall cedars and a stone's throw from the forest and Wreck Beach.

I looked at the negative reviews here, and seems that most came from people who didn't research or book ahead- UBC is a bus ride from downtown Vancouver so plan for that, and because it's a dorm during the year it is only available in the summer months. Bathrooms are communal, but very clean and, when I was there, not crowded at all. Wifi is only available on the broader campus and down in the lobby.

I would absolutely recommend this place, book early as it seems to fill up!
