A great place for crashing out! Double Mini Room for $38 per night was the room I stayed in when I was studying for exams and needed a place to just sleep and head back to school. I was living outside Victoria so it was easier to stay in town a couple nights versus travelling on the bus a couple hours every day and losing those great study hours and sleep time. It is affordable for a couple nights when you want a warm, cozy place to rest your head!😁👌🏻

This is such a lovely place for people who don't care much for living space. I lived here for 14 days.
- The staff are nice, courteous & straight forward.
- You get what you're told at the start
- Food is healthy & truly sumptuous
- The washrooms are shared & are clean. Wish the staff said somewhere on number of times, each washrooms are cleaned per day.
- Common kitchen has everything you would need to cook.
Bottomline : This is your college room dorm with importance to cleanliness & low cost living.

Fantastic hostel. Dorms were clean. Same with the washrooms. Staff were friendly and super helpful. They'll take care of your age no problem. There's also a pretty cheap bar

The free dinner was amazing. They try to accommodate for food restrictions too! Like gluten free and vegan. The room was small but cozy and included a mini fridge! The sheets were a bit worn out and the bed was terribly uncomfortable. Overall great service, great location, and awesome free food +beverages (one free cocktail every night!) Only suggestion would be to improve the beds!

So like, the whole thing is that they're cheaper than hotels, but the savings weren't really worth the hassle. For $100, we got a hard bed in a small private room (the bed was half the room), a mini fridge, and a table with a chair. Shared bathroom. It was fine, certainly a decent place to sleep, but in hindsight I probably would have opted for an actual hotel room that didn't make me feel like a sardine. In addition, you have to pay for a towel, have your own shampoo/soap, etc. Basic essentials for hotels costing around the same. There are quiet hours, which is nice, but we went to bed before those hours started and there were a couple instances of people talking in the hallway (not much of a sound barrier). There's some nice perks if you're actually backpacking. Free breakfast and dinner. We missed breakfast, but had dinner. Of the two dishes served, one was entirely flavorless, might as well have been water, but it was free and healthy! They also offer a free nightly drink to guests (we don't drink, so we didn't take advantage). They seem to have an option to work to help pay for your stay, which is definitely cool. The staff was really nice and laid back. Definitely a cool environment, just not really for me.

pretty good for a hostel! i worked for my stay here, but was only able to stay in a dorm as condition of working for my stay. it wouldve saved me n my friends some $$ if we just worked for our stay and chose a pvt room, but oh well. i enjoyed my time here. some of the rooms here r quite interesting lol, some w no windows or airflow. can get a lil hot, even for a housekeeper. if u r thinking of staying more than a cpl weeks here def ask abt working for your stay!

This is most definitely the worst hostel to stay at in Victoria. The staff are the most unfriendly, unhappy people I have ever encountered in this kind of atmosphere. They lean HEAVILY ON POLICY! They say they offer free breakfast which is one loaf or a half loaf depending on the hungover state of the individual preparing this breakfast. They offer 4 or five hard boiled eggs for all the guests to fight over. then they offer horrible coffee. They also claim to offer a free dinner which is a very tiny bowl of what I can only describe as worse than hospital food- and don't ask for a second bowl, their "policy" is one bowl. They will double book your room and kick you out citingyou guest it "policy" Here are a list of things they offer: horrible wifi reception, paid internet service, paid towels, paid linens, paid. well you get the idea. Besides the $663 you will pay for two weeks- you will pay for EVERYTHING. They make no mistakes as everything is policy, policy, policy. They get away with murder. DO NOT STAY HERE! There are better places with MUCH better amenities. Oh and the "staff" they have entering your room to clean are other guests they hire and pay to clean their hostel. So they actually do not have a cleaning staff. Basically strangers who are also guests from wherever are given the keys to your room when you are out. One of the front staff members also has a habit of getting inappropriately involved with male guests on numerous occasions. If that's what you are looking for- do it up.

The dorm was smaller that you'd think. The pillow was paper thin. They don't provide towels. But it is cheap and clean with a pretty good location. Plus, they let you borrow their guitar.

Stayed here for a month. The prices are good, but I noticed some people in dorms had bed bugs. Laundry on site is expensive, and some of the service desk people can be quite rude. They put us above the lounge and it was impossible to get to sleep before 11 due to the annoying music. You do get what you pay for though so we were mostly satisfied with our stay. They do like to keep it clean in bathrooms. Most people there are great so it's worth it to check Ocean Island out.

The hostel has a good location in the downtown area. It has a well stocked bar and provides dinner for free. The room we stayed in was a little on the small side for 4 people, but was clean. Overall a good stay.
