Rooms were clean and had all the basics. Was great for my short stay. Vending machine and ice machine on first floor only, my room was on the second floor. Front desk answered the phone immediately when called and answered all my questions. Keep in mind this hotel is a bit older but it is clean.
For the price, it was not worth it. Very motel feel for a hotel price. It was small, decor was dated, not a lot of pillows, the heating/A/C consisted of an A/C unit in the window, it was somewhat noisy at night (it's located right between two nightclubs). However, the location was pretty decent for getting around downtown.
For a convenient location, this hotel is OK. The rooms are small, decor is dated, and there is an odd odor in the hallway. That being said, the price is not outrageous given the downtown location. Probably wouldn't stay here again.
I'd recommend it if it's the only place within your budget. Reasonably clean and friendly staff. Room would have been better with a shelf or countertop in the bathroom. Had to balance toiletries on the toilet tank. Would have managed 3 stars except for a minor billing issue. They seem to have charged me for 1 day of parking even though I did not have a car, after calling them and visa, I gave up - $20 is only worth so much time.
I was a business traveller, arriving Sunday night for meetings Monday morning.
I checked in around 9.30pm and went to bed. Reception phoned me at 12:30am, saying my card details were incorrect (reception wrote them down wrong), so I needed to come down. I said I was asleep (after very long day flying from UK) and would sort it in the morning.
Reception then phoned me again at 3am No one would reply when I asked what they wanted, but I could hear the person on reception typing. Maybe to teach me a lesson for not coming down??
When I verified my card details at reception in the morning, the manager(?) was frosty as hell and said I was wrong, it was impossible that I could have been phoned and offered no apology.
The number one thing anyone pays for is sleep. For the staff to wake me up at 12:30am and then 3am, was inexcusable and unprofessional, as was their attitude.
So when I checked in they informed me that because I had a pick-up truck that I was not allowed to use there parking lot. Had to pay to park a couple blocks away. I then went to my room and in the hallway outside my room it smelled strongly of urine. Went to tell the front desk and it was like they had known about it or had complaints about it and just asked if it was the whole hallway or just that corner. I told them that i dont think it matters ther point is that the hallway smells like piss. They put me in a new room after there reluctance. Turned on the ac and it sounded like an old diesel truck firing up in the middle of winter. But all this could be yours for the price of 220 a night plus 24 for parking. Very disappointing
We got a quiet room in the second floor. It was quite adequate but not cheap, walking distance to gay club and restaurant area, just a few blocks away.
Room was small but clean and comfortable. We attended a concert and the hotel was not too far from the event. The hotel had a restaurant on site in which they had a great breakfast for a reasonable price. The staff was professional, courteous, and friendly.
Room was okay, & bathroom clean, but we had one complaint, which I would have brought to your attention, but the rest of my family found another solution, EARPLUGS!!! Unfortunately they don't work that well for me, and besides, I had a small medical procedure on my ear just a few days ago, and consequently cannot put earplugs in for quite a while . I understand that where there is a bar. Noise is to be expected, but as a courtesy, we should have at the very least, been informed of the proximity of our room, to the bar/music. So WE could make the decision as to whether WE MINDED being so close to the MUSIC/noise!!
We are here for a very important reason! Our daughter is getting baptized in our faith. Her baptism will be as important as her possible future marriage vows, having her first child, or graduating from university!! Now our poor daughter will be sleepy on her very important day! And if you are wondering why I am the only one complaining, it is because while my husband & daughter were quite annoyed by the noise as well, they did eventually manage to fall asleep with their earplugs, as I mentioned. I however, am angrily still being kept awake, and unable to plug both ears! Very disappointing.
Please, at least forewarn the next guests that follow us, ahead of time so that THEY, not YOU can decide whether or not they would like t sleep above a bar for a few days!
Very convenient location in the city and short walk from the Skytrain stop. Rooms are small but very clean. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Lucia at the front desk is exceptional!
The area of Grandville it's located in is a bit run down but safe, to be expected for a heritage site.
Best suited for independent and business travelers looking for something central in the city.
For the same price you can stay next door at the best western Granville chateau. It's a lot cleaner and warmer with a decent shower.
Small rooms and poor location as it shares walls with a night club. The weekend nights were extremely loud due to the club next store and the windows and walls shook until 2pm. You could even hear the DJ yelling out over the music, it was so loud. Though everything is within walking distance if you are in for a good walk, there were too many additional charges that did not reflect the quality of the stay (a charge for each person staying in one room, a high charge for parking each night, etc). No breakfast included, and very poor lighting in the rooms. We also weren't able to use our CAA points on weekends, and overall, the stay in Vancouver was great, but the stay at this hotel was not. Much too expensive and terrible night sleeps next to a very loud club.
Awesome location. Two blocks from the Vogue theatre. Awesome food nearby. Cheap rooms. Not particularly nice accommodations but you get what you pay for. Service is good.
Location was good and convenient but being right off of Granville it was pretty loud inside our room compared to hotels a bit farther off of main roads. The lobby is nice but the rest of the hotel is quite dated. The first floor had kind of a funky smell to it and but the second where we where staying was a lot more plesent of a scent. The hotel itself is slightly difficult to navigate, being my first visit it was rather unclear where my room would be located and the layout of the building was slightly obscure. The room itself was nice, but again quite dated in style. The room was clean, same can be said for the linens. Though it was a bit small it worked out. For the price I expected a bit more but I guess you pay for the convenience of the location above all else. In the future I would probably make a different selection for a place to stay. Being a Saturday night on the Granville strip some of the occupants where quite loud in the early morning hours making it hard to sleep. At some points.
A friend of mine took her son to a concert in Vancouver and booked a room at the Howard Johnson for 1 night. She forgot her credit card at home on Vancouver Island. They refused to accommodate her in anyway. Basically, left her and her son out on the streets. They did find a room at the Best Western close by, that took a cash deposit for the room for the night. Great customer service Howard Johnson. I will be staying at the Best Western, If I require a room on Grandville in the future.
