Just went there to have coffee with a bunch of friends. The staff was exceptional and friendly. I plan to return again. I'll pass it on to all my friends and family.
Very vintage!
If you are on a tight budget and travel with dogs, this place is great. The staff is very polite and friendly.
It is relatively clean although my bathroom sink drains very slowly and it strongly smells cold tobacco in my room (I was probably put in a smoking room because of the dogs).
No fridge/microwave/boiler in case you wonder.
Front Desk is very helpful and accommodating. Close to everything you need for a short stay (food, cafe, grocery store, bank). Rooms have individual A/C units and heat. Breakfast for purchase, every day. Bar downstairs. All that for $52 a night.
My husband and I stayed in the hotel room here, and it was sub-par to say the least. After reading decent reviews of the place on Google reviews, I went ahead and booked it because it was the cheapest place I could find for one night in Winnipeg. The guys at the front desk weren't unfriendly, but they definitely weren't friendly either. The room was horrendous. The sheets on the bed were unmade with the top comforter on top so it appeared clean at first glance. The sheets on the bed were stained with long wear and had holes in it. There was visible dirty footprints in the bathtub floor so I wouldn't doubt that the bathroom hadn't been cleaned. I didn't feel comfortable or clean sleeping in their sheets so we stripped the bed and used our own blankets and pillows . The TV and cable box was unplugged, not sure why. The room smelt musty and smokey as all rooms allow smoking. After reading back on more reviews after we checked out, most of the good reviews left were about their restraunt and lounge which we did not go too. Reviews we read later about the rooms had complaints of bed bugs and cockroaches. We didn't experience this luckily. I wish I could say something good about the place but I honestly can't.. the customer service could have been their one saving grace but it wasn't . Pay the extra $15-20 to stay somewhere CLEAN .
I went here for a coffee and to catch some soccer action. The service was pretty slow, and very laid back. The TV screens were either broken or the settings were off. When I returned here after nearly 4 months, there was no visible change. The TV was still broken service still lax.
On the other hand, this spot has an ambience that takes you back to the 80s or 90s, a unique ambience not found many if the popular places.
Also, the bar is cash only. So if you plan on showing up here, bring cash with you.
Positive: Really good food specials. I've always enjoyed going to their restaurant. The good has always been good and great service.
Negative: the bartender who did the "flare" I found very rude. Went there for a girls night, he would always throw your change at you. His attitude was not the greatest either.
It's disappointing that they no longer have poker night, live bands and they took the pool table out. It seems they only want clientele who are gamblers. We will be going elsewhere for now on.
Totally agree with Jey!!! The only other place I've seen the stuff that Ian does was in Vegas last year. Super personable dude and deserving of Winnipeg's Best Bartender!!
Otherwise, not a bad place. Wish they had live music!
UPDATE: I heard Ian left this week because the owners wanted him to stop doing his bar flair what the hell!! He brought in A LOT of people (myself and friends included) that will never be coming back.
Good drink specials. Can always find a table. Karaoke Saturday nights is always a good time.
5 stars for the bartender Ian. The place would not be the same without him. They should give him more creative freedom.
All around service is also good and the door guys are always gentlemen. It's my favorite place to grab a drink.
Update: I heard Ian left because he wasn't aloud to showcase his abilities. Too bad for the Curtis but Henderson Hwy is full of bars
I thought it was a very clean establishment. Service was personable and pleasant but not to pushy. Large open space with lots of vlts was nice but a pool table would have been better.
