Completely unprofessional. My father is currently in this hospital and after waiting 45 minutes on hold I finally was put through to a nurse who informed me that she wasn't allowed to tell me how he was and the doctor would call me back. The doctor didn't call me back. Each time I call there is a waiting time of 30 minutes before the call is answered only to be told that the doctor will call me back. I rang several times and each time was told the same thing. Completely different to other hospital policies. In addition he unbeknown to my father and the family he was put on a drug trial. When he started to have an adverse reaction I alerted the nurse and she said "What do you want me to do about it ". Seriously aren't you a medical professional. Northern Hospital show a complete lack of compassion. It's borderline medical neglect and abuse of power over the vulnerable people in their care.

This has to be the worst experience in emergency me and my wife have experienced. My wife needed an a ct scan we waited for 4-5 hours approximately to be told that both ct machines are broken and we don't no if or when you can have the scan. Hospital doctors and staff had no idea how to treat let alone talk to patients. In the end we walked out.
Do yourself a favour and go to another hospital.

Very polite and helpful staff. It was my first visit at northern hospital today and they made me feel so good and comfortable that half of my sickness faded away in a while. Far better than the plaza medical center. Doctors are highly efficient and intelligent.

It makes me sad to see so many negative reviews of the Northern Hospital. Here's my good story about them: I had been having bouts of severe abdominal pain for over a year. One year prior to my visit to the Northern, I went to the Austin's ER for help. After three days at the Austin and a huge battery of tests, their staff claimed that they couldn't find anything wrong with me. Fast forward one year and I have yet another severe bout of pain that landed me in the Northern's ER. I told them about my history and how I had been at the Austin a year before, so they immediately sent for my results from there and booked me in for an ultrasound. After examining both results, they confirmed that I had gall stones show up - IN BOTH HOSPITAL'S SCANS! The Austin never said anything about gall stones showing up in their scans, but the Northern's surgeon confirmed that he could see them in both their scans and the Austin's scans from a year ago! The Northern booked me in for surgery which was conducted about 6 weeks after my ER visit (the gall stone had decided to behave and go back to where it should be, so that was fine). I was, quite understandably since I've never had surgery before, extremely nervous about the procedure and aftermath. All of the staff were absolutely fantastic to me. They were wonderful at reassuring me before the procedure about what to expect, the calibre of the surgical team, etc. The after-care was also absolutely wonderful. The night I stayed in hospital recovering from surgery was incredibly busy and stressful for the nursing staff because another patient was having some significant issues, but they still look after me and the other patients with as much care and sympathy as they should. They were also very reassuring and encouraging when I first got up to walk around, and made sure I knew exactly what to do and expect when I went home. Something that people do need to know is that the Northern is a teaching hospital so there are a lot of student nurses, surgeons, etc. there. That said, don't let that scare you in any way because they're all wonderful and they're supervised by top-notch doctors. Overall, I had a wonderful experience and I am more appreciative of the Northern than I can say.

I was seen by the Triage nurse as soon as I walked in the door. That doesn't happen anywhere else, and as I'm told, Epping Hospital takes twice as many patients then anywhere else in Melbourne.

Highly commendable to the staff and a system that puts patients first. If I were the state government, I'd pour more funding into this hospital.

A positive experience, which you don't get often at a public hospital. Thank you, you guys were amazing.

I have had three stays, including two emergency procedures arriving by ambulance and am receiving out patient care. All staff - nurses, doctors, physios, pharmacists - have been universally caring and extremely professional and empathetic and I am a run of the mill public patient. Triage is always under pressure in hospitals world wide. A final thought, patients are always allowed bad days - hospital staff ? Never.

My daughter who has mental health issues and has been drinking was taken to Northern hospital by ambulance - she is a mother, nurse and midwife who has been struggling with post natal depression
She was threatening suicide and my other daughter recorded her conversation - the doctor decided to discharge her at 1am as she was articulate - her husband got the 3 children out of bed and picked her up at 2 am standing outside the hospital - no shoes in a desperate state
Is this a 3rd world country? How disgusting - they could of at least lt her stay the night - this morning she is in a very distraught state and if she attempts suicide you should be held accountable -her husband is calling Cat team and trying to get her somewhere safe instead of been treated like less than a human being
My husband and I will try and take this matter further with the health authorities - why could she not of stayed the night and treated with a bit of dignity

My wife was submitted to Emergency. Nurses and doctors were helpful inside. However, some of the administration clerk and triage nurses were very rude - showing their attitude - not professsional.
Overall experience - 3 stars as some doctors and nurses very helpful.

Have stayed here for a medical reason and had both of my children at this hospital.
    The staff have been amazing!!
Friendly, caring and lovely. Especially huge thumbs up to midwives and nurses! Very efficient and helpful. 👍👍Cleanliness of the ed and wards could do with some work. That in itself should lose a star but the staff make up for it!
As for wait times, that is also super drawn out 😧 but i don't expect too much, being a very busy public hospital. All in all, I'm happy to come back here if I ever need to!
