only giving one star because i have too , I'm termainly ill i need a feeing tube and the drs there are absolutely useless and irresponsible . they have no idea how to talk to people or even know how to listen , there wait time is unbelievably long for an appointment . referrals no matter how urgent they are take longer than they should . what a horrible hospital go else where if you can Would NOT recommend this hospital to NO ONE .

A family member spent the night in Austin Emergency. The whole experience was thoroughly professional and reassuring. I'm very grateful for the care we received. Thank you.
Ward 6 West provided excellent care. What wonderful nurses.

I went into emergancy with broken leg, then admitted to ward 8 north for a few nights, then moved to day surgery ward for 4 nights. The nursing staff are a cast of so many truly great individuals. I will remember them fondly for the care given in what must be a frustrating work environment in a public hospital. The catering staff were awesome. Food was actually really good, made even better by the friendly & engaging staff that delivered and collected the meals.

Last night I spent several hours as a patient at the busy Austin Hospital Emergency Department. The experience, was, as expected, a process that was only as quick as possible. More importantly my treatment was highly professional. Thanks to the staff in general and particularly to the nurse practitioner, Alison, whose competence was simply outstanding.

Unless you think youare about to die, don't bother coming here. You will end up waiting for 5 or 6 hours doesn't matter how sick you are or how much pain you are in. Even if you were admitted, they would kick you out as soon as possible and wouldn't completely heal you. Nurses here treat old and sick people like retarded. Seriously just save your time and energy and go somewhere else. There are a few good doctors and nurses here but most of the time they won't take you seriously.

One of Melbourne's largest hospitals with a varied casemxi
The Austin is a very well regarded tertiary hospital with many speciality services.
It is located next to Heidelberg train station for those taking public transport.
Has a full emergency department, onsite food outlets and numerous private clinics nearby

Twice emailed a referral, twice got confirmation reply, twice upon calling 2 -4 weeks later being told NO RECORD of referral. Admin at the hospital is so terribly woeful so hope the medical staff are much better.

No one likes going to emergency, but they were efficient as they could be and the clinicians were 1st class.

Extremely poor & rude customer service. The person attending the phone call on 9496 2444 should learn to have some patience, empathy, customer service & phone ettiquete (especially being a hospital)

I just called to ask if i can reschedule my appointment & that person says we have to take of the list cause he just want to wind my call without offering any possible solutions.

Being a customer/patience we are doing them a favor not the other way around!! Hopoe the management reads this & people should avoid this health care hospital which just wants to do business without being compassionate enough!

Hard to give star rating because such a mix of good and bad. I went into emergancy with broken leg, then admitted to ward 8 north for a few nights, then moved to day surgery ward for 4 nights.
THE GOOD - The nursing staff are a cast of so many truly great individuals. I will remember them fondly for the care given in what must be a frustrating work environment in a public hospital. The catering staff were awesome. Food was actually really good, made even better by the friendly & engaging staff that delivered and collected the meals.
THE BAD - I had listed what I didn't like but have edited it out as it was rude and out of character for me to speak like that. Going to hospital is a harrowing experience, and suffice to say the good at the Austin far outweighed the bad.
