I went to Hides hotel for drinks on the verandah with some friends. It is a lovely hotel situated right in the heart of the city centre at 84 Lake St. The little I saw of inside was lovely and had a great 1900 'so feel. Would like to stay there one night just for the hell it.

Very nice inner city hotel.The breakfast on the balcony was great and evening time is time to see cairns for what it is.A magic place with atmosphere of culture rebuilt and shown graphically by night at sheild street verandah.

Good hotel, with breakfast part of the deal. Small rooms , but Centrale location to Cairns City, Security parking of street, walking distance from restaurants, shop's & swimming pool's. The Hotel is very Old, with history, meany room, with a lot of old world charm, very friendly staff.

Building is huge, rooms are a bit dated but overall clean and tidy. Staff are nice and the location is perfect to walk to shops and restaurants as it's right in the middle of everything.

Outdated for accommodation for a historic hotel. Needs a revamp of motel rooms & all fittings.
Needs motel room A/C filters to be properly & regularly cleaned. Needs serious care towards laundry dryer (clogged filters) so to avoid serious FIRE risk on 3rd level (accom level 2).
Needs new shower tiles. The hotel needs some love, care & money spent on rooms. It needs at least some airflow through stifling warm hallways. Dirty hallway carpets need vacuuming. Hotel should offer free WIFI, not $3 a minute. Maybe add Foxtel? Needs pool work as dirty surroundings, rust runs & cracked tiles.
Needs motel room fridge ventilation as the room fridges run hot in enclosed timber boxes are also a real FIRE risk. Sadly these i noticed staying in 2 rooms there recently, both the same hot enclosed space fridge issues.
A good location, friendly counter staff, but that's all i can say on the good side of how this hotel sits compared to other similarly priced hotel-motel rooms not far away.
A genuine upgrade is needed. It can cost more to visitors but they would be happy for additional costs for additional comforts and better safety.response / report this review -

The room was disgusting with a very bad smell.
The room and the hotel are not clean.
The "breackfast" was very poor and unsatisfied with plenty of birds who ate the leftovers from the tables.

The bedroom was very basic, with shared bathroom. It was pretty noisy and old inside but the bed was clean. The air con works good. The continental breakfast is basic too, toasts, eggs and cereals plus drinks.

Worst hotel I've ever been. Room is dirty. Dust around. Very noise in the night. And bad service with luggage. Also the breakfast only supply the toast. What hotel it is? Bugs bit a lot. Terrible.
