Great hostel that is a short 10 minute walk away from the beach. The bed was worn in and hard to sleep on, that's why I can't give 5 stars

After a bad day to say the least, when I arrived at HabitatHQ I instantly felt the warmth and friendliness of this place. The guy at the counter was very charasmatic and instantly approved my mood and sorted me out in no time at all. It's also a very cool looking place with a great location. I will be rrecommending this pace to friends

I am currently staying here and is by far a GREAT hostel!
Everything here is well done. The service is excellent and the staff and people are friendly. All in all a good hostel to be in. I hope that the people here read this review. I have been in many hostels and this is by far one of the best.

This place was bad. The room keys continuously didn't work and I would have to repeatedly go to reception to get it sorted. You have to pay for parking behind there building in the car park which I think is shocking to say how much you pay for a bed anyway. Staff members were not helpful at all and quite stuck up to be honest. The showers were shut at really inconvenient times so I would have to use the ones downstairs!
Some little perks like free breakfast but I'd always miss that as it was only on offer after I'd been to work when it should be available to all as it claims.
Also if you book via telephone I believe you get $10 tokens to spend at the bar.. That's great but I didn't find out we were able to have this until a week into my stay and noticed a sign on the door. Information at check in was really bad and the young lady couldn't be any more miserable if she tried.
Just not great for what we paid to stay there for 2 weeks.

Clean enough, they put something on every night (free BBQ, killer pool, movie night, etc). Poorly run, however. Also you can't drink your own booze, have to buy at their own bar which makes the reasonable price suddenly much more than other hostels (at least for those who drink as much as me).

Edit: To clarify (in response to the owners reply) I mean the hostel is poorly run not the events. Also, the place is listed on Google as having free parking. Not true. There is parking but not free. $4/night, if I remember correctly.

I got to the habitat HQ for 3 days and stayed for 2 months. You can find great atmosphere and friendly people. I enjoyed the activities and the willingness to help from the staff.
I would like to mention Itai and Spencer. Both are the best people in the staff. Lovely people, who helped me a lot getting into Australia and finding my way. They are the part who make habitat from good to great.

Affordable double room with private bathroom. Good WiFi and superb staff. Parking lot next to the hotel, $4 a day. Perfect to visit Melbourne by tram. Nice BBQ invitation.

Very friendly staff and clean rooms. The location is not the best, but regarding the price and the tram stop right outside the door it didn't bother much. Car Parking available in the secured lot for 4$/day (good deal).
WiFi was the only downer

Cheap prices for a decent hostel in the middle of everything and just outside the city. Easy for transport as it is near multiple tram stops and walking-distance from local shops, and the St Kilda beach. Cheap drinks and easy to make friends. Lots of fun stuff to do like play pool or watch TV in the TV Room. Free breakfast if you wake up esrly enough! Beds are a little creeky but that's expected with a hostel. Not a good view from the windows but still a good place!

Not value of it's price. The beds were the most uncomfortable we have ever been, so hard and not a proper pillow. The luggage storage is NOT included when checking out even if though they advertise their free luggage storage. We both got sick when staying there: there's absolutely no hygiene. People don't wash their hands properly because there's no hand towels and they don't do their dishes. The kitchen is a mess. The staff should really do more and clean it more often. I can't understand why this place has won some prices. The bathroom roof was leaking also. Not very fun place to stay.

Clean washrooms, spacious rooms with ample outlets, and large common area. Close to the heart of St. Kilda and other hostels, superb location. Easy to meet people. My favourite hostel thus far. Would come back and stay again if I am in Melbourne. Thanks!
