Beautiful, colourful, and restorative venue! GREAT for intimate lunch, good seating for large groups, and great for a quick restorative cup of coffee.

Albeit I got messed around with my booking in the middle of the night. This is the better Protea hotel in Midrand. The concierge in charge of transport and the gentleman in charge of the conference centre are absolute gems!!

Seems like the entire outdoor deck is a smoking area. Why do smokers always get the best seats? Indoors too noisy for a quite drink and a chat. Not my scene

Visited the hotel for a meeting Tuesday. No waiter in sight/care to take coffee order or bring menu. Finally got a waiter ordered food. The hake and salad took 1 hour to prepare. That is unacceptable at every level. No apology of whatsoever nature - so I assume you believe this is normal. Please review that assumption. I have had similar experience at same hotel before. Seems service is of no consequence to you.

HOW THE HELL DOES A COMPANY LIKE PROTEA/MARIOTT NOT HAVE SYSTEMS IN PLACE TO PREVENT DOUBLE BOOKINGS!!!

At 4am a bunch of drunk unruly government employees were banging at my door because the umhlanga rocks hotel has double booked room 610. They have an active card that is allowing access to the room but fortunately I had the door latched. When I called reception they spoke back to me in Zulu and said they can't hear me! The bunch made noise in the passage way until well after 6am with no intervention from the staff at Protea Hotel umhlanga rocks.

This is the second time in less than a week. This also occurred at Protea Midrand on 20 February 2017 when my company booked me in for work.

I will never be using a Protea Hotel again and will advise my company to never book me in a Protea again!

I've visited the restaurant at this hotel a couple of times but have never stayed (slept over). I have found the atmosphere to be pleasantly relaxed. There is indoor and outdoor seating. It's an "okay" meeting venue but I am yet to be wowed by anything from the food to the service. The receptionist could definitely be friendlier!
