Food very tasty, especially the lamb shank cooked perfectly also enjoyed the milkshake. Room nice and cozy too. Friendly staff. Definitely sure will come back next time.

Firstly I asked for a late checkout when I booked the room the next morning when I called downstairs to ask about the checkout time they said they will get back to me three calls later which was ruining my sleep as I had a late night was frustrating. Also there is construction happening across the road which is very annoying when you plan to wake up much later. All you hear is banging and a whole lot of disturbance. Room was not very clean. Overall good stay. Food was overpriced for 2 omelet and coffee was about R 500, staff was friendly also there ticket machine was not working so they made me drive to the basement to sort it out. Location was excellent.

The restaurant is good at first floor. But the room seems not being clean properly. Cleaner didn't change body wash/shampoo from last customer. Many defects are in bathroomand it takes long time for maintenance to come to fix.

I stayed at this hotel for the first time during the last week in January. I would like to convey my gratitude towards the staff at this hotel for making my stay so special. They really go the extra mile to make every guest feels welcome. The rooms are of an above average standard and the hotel is in a class of its own.The milkshakes are superb and I'd recommend the burgers any day. The staff went so far as to ensure I departed and arrived on all my trips using Uber. The late check in times were a God sent with my glight being late. My stay at this hotel will go down in my memory books forever. If you're looking to enjoy a bit of the " Good life" and just take a break, I suggest spending the weekend here. Once again, thank you to the team at Melrose Arch Fire and Ice. You guys were so friendly, attentive and just made the hotel feel warm.

Located in a lovely upscale area with many good restaurants. The hotel is stylishly decorated with many amenities. Rooms are modern roomy and very comfortable.

Food and service: 2 stars
Overall: be prepared to be disappointed

Let's start with the bad:
The restaurant on the first floor, has disappointed on several occasions throughout the year(s). Food was of poor quality and taste. On all occasions this was experienced by the entire party eating.
You would be lucky to get an apology the management of the restaurant, more so some sort of remedial action.

The good (kind of ):
The only good thing to come out of the restaurant is their milkshakes, which are created in dedicated milkshake bar.
The rooms are very physically close to get to (distance). While the quality of the rooms isn't exceptionally great, they do make a good attempt at giving the room a lot of character.

Goods and bads.

Good things:

-excellent customer service and extra kindness
-Great milkshakes and really cool chic lounge
-nice garden in between the hotel's complex
-wifi is free
-if you happen to buy extra meat or things that need a refrigerator or freezer they can keep it for you until you leave
-sockets right next to the bed so easy access to your phone by the bed while charging
-the room is pretty and has plenty of light, king-size bed and comfortable pillows
-amenities are decent, nothing special
-pretty decorations and framework of celebrities from Hollywood's best years of cinema of the 50s all the way till nowadays.
-style is mainly black and white so very modern.
-safe, fridge and water boiler with tea and coffee are in the room.

Bad things:

-the cleaners, room service, waiters are very very noisy, you can hear them loud and clear from the rooms while they walk, knock on doors and clean or talk just right out the corridor. It's a problem if you really need to sleep. They do this noise all throughout the night and day, regardless of the time. This is also due to the thin walls and the door now being totally flush with the pavement.

-The rooms and the whole theme of the hotel are a bit of an overkill. I feel like I'm in a fancy party all the time. It feels just too much. I spent a night there and that was far enough. The lamps, the chandeliers, the colors, the wallpapers all super fancy and modern just like the ones you'd see in a club. Not just around the common areas of the hotel but also the rooms are like this. Lights are super dimmed, also in the corridors and lifts. It's just a bit claustrophobic.

-The sockets near the bed have a super bright white light, God knows why. That light illuminates super bright and you can't shut it off. It'll bother you if you're facing it cause it really shines right onto your eyes.

-floors were dirty with crumbs and coffee leaks, I workout in my room sometimes and do some push-ups. I smelled the coffee off the floor. Nothing huge but clear sign of not cleaning.

-bathroom had some female hairs around and I don't have long hair so they didn't clean properly before my stay

-Windows are one layer glass only so you'll hear everything coming from outside. At night it isn't a problem but during the day there are several kids playing in the garden just outside and any shout you'll just hear it super loud and clear cause it echoes. I couldn't sleep because of that.

I sound fussy but I'm just outlining my experience so for it to be a heads up for you.

Conclusion:

I found the hotel okay. I don't like the taste but that's my personal opinion. Regarding the noise, it should be handled better. Noise for me means 1 star down.

Come here just if you need to or if it's for 1 day.

Visited Johannesburg in 2016 for work. This hotel is beautiful! It has an old Hollywood TV Movie feel to it. My room was spacious, comfortable and quiet. The hotel is equipped with free wifi, you receive an access card for the elevator, the corridor and your room (very safe). Food here was great and the whole ambiance of this place was relaxing, high class but really nice.

Had the opportunity to have a sumptuous lunch here before having a look around the hotel and I must say I quite like this hotel, a lot. This hotel is famous for its burgers and milkshakes and I now understand why. I opted for just some sliders because there was no way I was finishing the massive burger that would come my way should I have ordered it but none the less it still tasted amazing. The milkshakes are of unique creation and have been famous around Johannesburg for a while now. The hotel is based on and old Hollywood theme but in a contemporary way and this follows through in the rooms. Dinner here has quite the vibe with the restaurant almost fill up with people coming to try out the famous aforementioned burgers. Why not right?

Fantastic and friendly front desk and door staff. Very warm and courteous but the bar waitress service is bad and unprofessional. She brought the menu to the table and told me she will be back to take the orders and never came back it's not like the place is busy on Monday evening. there are only 4 tables and already served. After a good 12 minutes I went to the bar to oder my drink. This is not a service I expected from a place with international target market. I will love to see our service industry seriously getting improved. Hire qualified restaurant and bar managers with international standards so they can properly run such establishments with good and quality service.

We visited the restaurant for lunch (didn't stay in the hotel). Impressive selection of milkshakes (they have a milkshake bar) but not extraordinarily tasty though. Good food but variety could be better. Didn't like the vibe & the music.
