What a great family day out. Our National Zoo has so much to offer.although it could offer so much more with a little TLC (and significant investment). The layout is great with an abundance of fauna on display. I was however really disappointed to see the state of some of the enclosures as well as a few key features around the zoo. A little more focus from our guys in charge and the National Zoo could be one of the best in the world. P.S. the zoo is HUGE! Hire a golf cart if you can. Comfortable walking/running attire is a must. Parking is a little inconvenient with no formal crossing for the lot across the road. This is not ideal especially for those with young kids. Overall a must do for both locals and tourists alike.

The Pretoria Zoo is very well kept for its size. There is a great variety of animals, and ones you don't expect to see such as Komodo Dragons, and even a ragged tooth shark in the aquarium. The animals appear to be well looked after. This zoo will keep you busy the whole day. From a facilities perspective, the choices of food to eat was a bit lacking. Other than a nice place to visit.

Excellent assortment of animals beautiful views very friendly staff. I highly suggest that you make use of the golf carts to tour the zoo myself and my two kids or comfortable on a golf cart which we had hired for 3 hours and had visited the whole Zoo this way. The cost was 270 for 3 hours which was worth it be sure to be early in order to secure a golf cart . Make sure to take cash some of the activities require this and do not accept credit card. There is no halal food in the zoo so make sure you take your own

The Pretoria Zoo is incredibly diverse in its collection of animals; including a really cool aquarium, aviary and reptile park. The shelters and grounds are exceptionally well-kept. The prices to get in are somewhat pricey but the food for sale inside the zoo is cheap and easily available. It's a nice place to go if you'd like to go for a good walk-around, but there are golf carts and cable car rides available if you get tired. There's plenty of space to sit with family and have picnics and let children run around.

It was a pleasant experience. At the gate we were lucky and did not stand in a queue. We were there more or less 0930. The Happy Snappy people welcomed us and the photo experience was quite nice. The pictures is a little bit expensive, but it was worthwhile. The Zoo was very clean as well as the cages. We walked at the bottom and then took the cable car to the top and then walked all the way down. We enjoyed the morning.

Make use of the Golf Carts they have for rental. It's about R150 per hour but definitely worth it as the Zoo is huge and taxing to walk with Smaller kids. You definitely want to see the Aquarium which boasts a Shark and smaller crustaceans, Take a trip to see the Tiger and the Cheetahs as well as the big 5. For Families bring a Picnic Basket and have a fun filled day or bring your chop & wors for a Braai in the Zoo. Be sure to take pics at the entrance to see your Gorilla/Giraffe/Lion Pics

The zoo is very large and has a great aquarium. They have golf cars which you can hire and they have a cable car. They have koala bears which are very cute.

One of my favorite places in the world. Go there every year when I visit South Africa. Interactive and they are very geared up towards what tourists want. But pricey for locals though. Not too be missed experience. Be careful of the local shopping markets around the area though. But dodgy

I love Zoo, I am just really into them and this one didn't disappoint one bit! lots of animal, cart available if you have a driving licence and in general it was perfect. Attn: there is a komodo dragon compound that is just HELL NO!!

Jungle in the middle of the concrete. Great experience for the family showcasing Africa's greatest fauna and flora. Golf carts and cable ride a plus. WiFi across the park would be nice for real-time info searching and social media.

The National Zoological Gardens make a great day out.

Sadly, the facility shows that insufficient funds are getting onto the ground for maintenance and upkeep. It was winter and water is scarce, nonetheless the grounds had an unkempt appearance and the Apies River was depressingly full of human generated litter.

Most of the animal enclosures were in reasonable condition.The animals appear to be well cared for and well fed.

Next time \i go, I will take the cable car to the top of the Zoo and meander back down past the exhibits.

We did a night tour at the zoo. The tour was about one hour long and that was just long enough as the kids were ready to go back by the last exhibit. I did feel that it is a bit over priced for what you get. All thought the guide was very knowledgeable about the animal species in general, he didn't have knowledge about the individual animals. For example, when asked what happened to the elephant's tooth, he had no idea. We also did not see any true night animals, except for the owls.

Clean and well kept, even a cart option for the old, disabled and people with unfants (or lazy people).
Had a lovely picnic on some of the lush grass and really enjoyed the animals. Friendly service and a nice souvenir shop.

The Pretoria Zoo is a fantastic day out! The grounds are immaculately maintained, and there are more than enough animals on display to keep you busy. Unfortunately, a lot of the enclosures were being renovated and therefore we didn't see the full range of what the zoo usually has to offer.

Bring your own picnic, because the "restaurants" here are beyond the scope of what is possible to describe. Only one where open when we visited. The other one declined card payment, even though they had a working card reader. The reason was the staff was too lazy to use it. They only had eight items on the menu, of which four was unavailable. They had no vegetarian option at all but suggested a simple burger just without a beef, at the same price as a normal hamburger. The food arrived *WAY* too quick. Not even McDonald's get your food this fast. The fries had a horrible consistency, all slobbery and slimy, and weren't cooked through. And the burger beef (for the one in our company who wasn't vegetarian) was raw and cold in the middle.

As for the animals, it had the most bizarre layout possible. The roads are a complete maze, which had us walking around endlessly in circles to try to see at least most of the animals. Many animal pens were only visible from one side of the cage, so even if there was a road going just past it, you still had to go around it for a long stroll to get a chance to see it from the visible direction.

They had a wide range of animals, though. Including arctic and antarctic animals.

Perhaps the restaurants are better during peek days (weekends), but I wouldn't bet on it.
