We had an excellent experience here! We were starving and picked it kind of on a whim. It was close and the menu looked interesting. Upon arrival We were greeted by multiple friendly staff and seated ourselves. The ambience was great: cozy warm lighting, welcoming seating with modern touches but still reminiscent of a diner with its bar pulling up to a grill. We had a classic white Russian and a hibiscus gin soda (made with their own hibiscus coridal) both of which were good. I had the 'sloppy joe' (which is vegetarian-beans with avocado and cheese on a gun that's really more like a giant flaky biscuit) with fries and their own hot sauce. My companion had the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich also on the flaky biscuit bun. All exquisite! The fries were hot and fresh, and I'd buy the hot sauce on its own and my sandwich was delightful. We'll be back for sure.
Really good food. I had the smoked tomato soup with the grilled cheese and it was amazing. Nice, rich comfort food. Think of this place as diner food but upgraded with fresh ingredients, rich flavor and really nice vibes
Clarke's is a hip diner style venue, with friendly and fun staff and some wacky and fun food and drinks! I ordered cheese toasties with a choice of soup to dip them into - super creative and it was really tasty comfort food!
They have some nice beers on tap - my girlfriend and I loved the blonde ale. The cocktails we had were also inventive and delicious!
A nice place with good food, fast and friendly service. Cool crowd. I had the burger which is one of the best in the city. Nothing too fancy on the menu so if you're looking for a simple bite to eat this is a good place.
We used to come here when in a hurry for both breakfast and dinner, our hotel was one block away. The burgers are so tasty and served fresh. We recommend this restaurant.
Awesome vibes in here and top food to match! Casual, laid back atmosphere and the staff are welcoming and friendly too. If you're traveling solo you can easily grab a seat at the bar, have a great meal, and feel comfortable. They make their burger buns fresh every day, enough said. So yummy. Not a veggie but had the zucchini and beet burger with a side salad and it was delicious.
Hipsters. Everywhere. But that's not a bad thing. Really great specials and good coffee. Perfect place to work.
Lovely spot, great staff. Can get busy and you must wait for your food. However its worth it, since the food is amazing. Grilled cheese. Best.
Love having breakfast at Clarke's. A small but excellent menu that's always executed to perfection. Great coffee and breakfast options, with a lively vibe.
Good selection of beer and bar snacks too.
Services is always friendly and fast.
Went there with my sister for our monthly "sister day". Vibe was great, food even better. Would be visiting them again definitely.
Their burger was one of the tastiest I've ever had. Fun trendy vibe with the whitewashed interior and abundance of plants. Would go back!
We ate lunch here twice during our visit to South Africa. The fact that we went back is an indicator of how good the first visit went. The second was just as good as the first.
Absolutely love this place. Their breakfasts are so inventive and lunch is really affordable. Wait staff are also on top of their game with friendly efficient service
My favourite restaurant in Cape Town! All day breakfast and the most delicious veggie burger (probably the best in Cape Town). The staff are so lovely and friendly. I find it hard to fault Clarke's at all, you just can't go wrong dining here.
I did not feel welcomed here. If you're non-white, rather find an alternative venue.
Cool vibe, decent food. A nice place to have dinner and drinks with friends that is not over packed. Chilled vibes :)
Bring on the Hipster! This is a great burger and beer spot on Bree Street in the heart of Cape Town. All the cool kids are hanging out here. You can settle in for the night or grab a quick bite before heading to the surrounding bars.
The last review by Eddy Kim practically describes word for word my experience today - except it wasn't even that busy. Had to wait an unreasonable amount of time and asked repeatedly different staff for first drinks; had to wait ages for mayo and water after main was served; "medium" burger was well done, burger was very disappointing, unsatisfying and greasy; both chairs were practically falling apart, and way too close to person behind; pizza place out back looks nice if people wanted to give that a try; if you want a burger, I reckon Tiger across the road couldn't possibly be any worse (as haven't tried the place, but it seems to have good reviews); Clarke's was probably good once upon a time, but someone has definitely taken their eye off the ball - considering someone replied to Eddy's last review, not much action has taken place to rectify terrible service etc
Good vibe, busy and nice place to go with mates. Unfortunately service and food was below average. Asked for medium. Meat was practically talking to me between the buns. You can see the staff are trying but coordination and collaboration of staff is pretty bad. Had to order same food and drinks multiple times with different waiters to ensure we got it our food. Missed out on the chrisna olives, 2nd drink order never arrived and salad came 45min late as we were finished with our food and was about to ask for the bill. So much potential but definitely not my first choice in Cape Town
