We enjoyed a wonderful lunch here on our way from Addo to Calitzdorp. The garden in the back as well as the village bazaar shop were a lovely surprise. The food was the best lunch we have had so far in the Western Cape. Try the mince pancake and the roosterkoek!

We had the pleasure of staying over at Niekie's awesome self-catering accommodation last night. Self-catering does not sound grand enough for the room we had, with a queen size brass bed and shower big enough for two. There was a small infinity pool next to our patio, which opened on to a view of the hillside. It is both quirky in its decor, and supremely comfortable and clean at the same time. Niekie runs a restaurant just down the street from the accommodation - you can find it by looking for the rusty rooster which stands proudly outside the restaurant. He made us a special vegan breakfast with spinach, chickpeas, patty pans, sun-dried tomatoes, caramelised onions and lots of herbs, together with homemade bread. It was the best breakfast of our trip so far. This is probably the best restaurant in De Rust!
