Union Hotel is a very cozy hotel. The staff is friendly and helpful. The room is small and not a lot to move around in. In the bathroom, the water pressure in the shower is very low. The pillows on the bed are too soft and getting in and out is difficult with the height of the bed. The bed is not very comfortable.
The instructions for the a/c is confusing and not simple to use. Lastly, don't bother going to Stoner and Runner cafe. The only breakfast they serve to the Union hotel guests is orange juice, coffee, and a croissant of your choice either plain or chocolate. I believe the croissants are one per person and limited coffee and orange juice.response / report this review -

The picture below is the entire room except for the bathroom. You are not seeing things. Do not adjust your set. The room size is advertised as 200 square feet. This room might be 200 cubic feet if you count the floor-to-ceiling space. The floor space of the room is 7 feet by 11 feet. The bed takes up more than 50%of the floor space. The dresser drawers are under the bed. The TV is on the wall along side of the bed and cannot really be seen from the bed unless you are laying sideways on it. There really are no redeeming qualities whatsoever about this place. There is a makeshift patio on the roof and I am tempted to sleep there tonight because it looks like it's better accommodations. It may as well have rats. They could only serve to improve this place.

Hotel that's apparently made from an old apartment building. No parking lot, also no valet. Rickity unstable elevator. Rooms so small the bed takes up 90% of the room. No in room microwave , or refrigerator. If you want to cook or refrigerate anything, you have to go to the basement and use a shared refrigerator and microwave. TV didn't work and had to be tweaked 3 times on 3 different visits from hotel staff. Shade in room was inoperable with chain, so staff rolled it up and balanced it on the top of the window. Will not be returning to this "hotel". It's a cheap price , and it's obvious why.

The rooms are very small and cramped if not staying by yourself and the walls are super thin. There were a lot of people all times of the night talking loudly in the hallway and slamming doors. I stayed one night after an event I was attending at the Barclays Center, which is less than a 15-minute walk. Though the location is pretty convenient, it might be better to look elsewhere for a more comfortable stay.

Stay away from this hotel!
during our last night the toilet was leaking. we called the front desk. the staff at the front desk came up to our room and first accused us of putting something in the toilet - which was not the case. the toilet was leaking from the bottom where it sits on the floor. she told us that there is nothing that she can do and asked us to put towels on the floor and told us not to use the bathroom and she shut off the water. the next morning, we had to catch a flight at 8:30. when we woke up we were not able to use the bathroom because the floor was covered in toilet water and the staff had turned off the water. when we called down she said there is nothing she can do about it. if we need to use the bathroom we would have to go to the basement and use the staff bathroom there. since we were in a hurry, we decided to go down to the basement only to find out that the toilet in the staff washroom was also leaking and the floor was covered with towels soaked in toilet water. so we had to check out of the hotel with only being able to brush out teeth in the staff bathroom. when we were leaving the hotel, i asked the front desk staff to have the manager call me because i felt that the way we were treated was unacceptable. it has been a week since we've checked out and i have yet to hear from the hotel. i feel that i should have gotten reimbursed for my last night there or we should have been put in another room. to this day i have not gotten an apology or a phone call from them.response / report this review -

Stayed on the first floor next to the elevator. I could hear everything that happened outside my door all night long. The lobby was 25 ft from my door so i heard every conversation the clerk had with guest. Rooms are a lot smaller than you think, i reserved a queen bed but i got a full. Overall bad night sleep but the place was clean, not including the forest rpm they pdf me which smelled of cigarette smoke

I give 2 stars based off of my experience at this hotel, as what EVERY one said the rooms are tiny as heck!!!! I was surprised because their advertisement was NO where near what the rooms actually looked like. My family booked a two bed, room which was supposed to be two twin size beds, what they actually looked like were toddler beds. I am 5ft exact and my feet hung off the bed. It looked and felt like a jail cell, my boyfriend compared his experience with having too sleep in a coffin. It was terrible. The outside of the hotel looks nice but the moment you walk in you should be alarmed. There isn't a lobby or anything just a guy with a computer standing there.
The area isnt good for a hotel, although its in Brooklyn & everything is close, the area is under major construction. The pricing is resonable considering! But another thing, breakfast was terrible, we(my boyfriend and I plus 3 children under the age of 7) walked about 5 blocks with men working , to a cafe that gave us each a piece of bread with a small orange juice with loads of pulp. That's where breakfast was held.
I could continue this review but ill simply say, this hotel is good for a bootycall and nothing more. We stood ONE night from 11pm thru 9am and that is why i only give 2 stars & im trying to be nice, if you're planning to stay longer then what we did save yourself the trouble and go to the super 8 hotel about 2 blocks away. This hotel needs to be burnt down and rebuilt in a totally different location and renovated into something worth 125 bucks.

Location is just great -- 5 min. walk to subway station so you can get to Manhattan in less than 30 min. Moreover, there is another subway station nearby from which you can get straight to JFK. Staff was really helpful and breakfast (served in a local cafe 3 blocks away) simply delicious! Room and bathroom were newly renovated and were kept tidy and clean during all our stay. All facilities were working fine, including HD TV with huge number of channels.
Room was way too small for two of us and two large pieces of luggage (however for backpackers it should be just fine). Also it was not soundproof (even though the hotel claims all rooms are) -- I was not able to sleep without using earplugs due to noise coming from adjacent room and hallway.response / report this review -

The location was excellent (there are two subway stops a few blocks to the north [@ the Barclay's Center] & south [Union and 4th Ave.]; there are some good bars such as "Lavender Lake" nearby; there's a Whole Foods a few blocks south) ; the staff is quite helpful & professional; & the local restaurant that the hotel contracts with for breakfast is like a hometown & comforting diner.
The one caveat: be totally aware of the type & size of the room you reserve!response / report this review
