My wife and I booked a weekend stay at the squirrels nest camp site. After we were settled in, we went to use a nearby comfort station only to discover that it was closed for the season because it was being winterized. We were never told that the comfort station was closed for the season when we made our reservations or when we checked in that day. Had we known, we would not have made our reservations for the squirrels nest camp site. For the rest of our stay we used the visitor center bathroom and the comfort station at the closest nearby camp site. Management allowed us to keep our car in the visitor center parking lot so we could drive to the nearest comfort station for showers. We were also given a refund for our campsite. Unicoi State Park is gorgeous and is close to downtown Helen. Perfect for enjoying nature and getting to celebrate Okfoberfest on a fall weekend. The staff was also courteous and helpful when we talked with them. Though we were inconvenienced, we would still visit this park and camp here again.

Very good lodging facilities both location and amenities wise. Near from Atlanta - so didn’t spend a lot of time driving from Tampa. Courteous staff. We stayed in bldg A which has rooms with a loft. Loft access is very vertical and mostly good for kids.
Did the archery and air gun session and it’s worth it. Bo was very polite and walked us through the rounds with great friendliness. Very enjoyable and wouldn’t mind doing it all over again.
Lodging is rustic looking and experience. Don’t expect Marriott style cleanliness but this goes very well with enjoying nature more outdoors. Definitely worth a try to come live here.

This would be a great place to visit if it wasn't for the staff. They had no idea what was on the dinner menu up at the lodge restaurant and I must have waited 25 minutes to speak to someone at the front desk with no response. No one answered the phone when I tried multiple times to reach either the front desk or the restaurant. I finally just gave up. The rooms were fine but there is no refrigerator. No trashcans in the halls by the vending machines. Also, there is nowhere to buy milk unless you leave the park and we have a baby.

We visited the Unicoi State Park and lodge in December. The hotel is rustic and old and would have been a very charming retreat tucked away in the mountains if there were only adults in our party. We had two kids with us. The younger one was an active crawler at tge time and wanted to go straight on the colorful carpet. But the carpet in our lodge room and all over the hotel was very dirty. As a result we did not stay in the lodge for night but returned home in the evening after having dinner at the hotel restaurant.The view from our lodge room was great though. The restaurant menu was good and they have pizza which was awesome. Will definitely revisit when my baby can walk. Overall we enjoyed the cozy dinner there.

This park is NOT for serious hikers and outdoors people. It is, by design, meant for busy families which wish to have an 'outdoor experience' prepared for them at a price. The nearby town and Lodge will be *very* good to such people.

The trails towards Helen lacked any really interesting vista or features worth noting. The trail was bizarrely enhanced with more than a few rocks. It came off as being a half measure. The tennis court by the trail had huge piles of sand and boats stocked within. It came off as unsightly and unkempt.

Give me wilderness or a resort, but not this.

The rooms are nice. The one in the second floor had attic like and and extra bed in the room. The food is very good. The hospitality is also very nice. And it's very good to hike around.

My son (5) and I were up there this past Saturday on National Hunting and Fishing Day for Unicoi's Outdoor Adventure Day and had an absolute blast! I always love going to that park! After the Outdoor days which was an amazing kid-friendly event, we went to the lake to do some fishing. I can't wait to go back!

Go early!!! We chose to go mid morning not knowing what the crowds would be trying to visit the Anna Ruby Falls. Wow I'm glad we chose to go early by the time we left the line to get in rapped around the road a good ways. The waterfall was beautiful and the paved path to get to it wasn't bad at all. It's pretty much all up hill, once you reach the falls there is a 5 mile trail of the left as your looking at the falls. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a moderate hike. The trail was well maintained but be aware you are in good ole mother nature. We came across a yellow jacket nest that had been disturbed by hikers coming from the other directions and well anyone from that moment on who came across that location was stung free of charge haha. All in all it was a fantastic hike and the falls were truly amazing.

The park is very well maintained. Facilities are nice. Campgrounds are good. I would definitely recommend camping here or even just coming to hike some of the beautiful trails. There is also a nice lake you can take kayaks or paddle boards onto.

My family and I had a wonderful week despite all the problems with our cottage and the unhelpful staff.
The cottage: Mice. Ants. Floors not even swept, if we go by the dirty sock under the end table. Stairs had not been swept in who know how long. We were given 4 sets of towels for 7 people, and when we asked for more we were given a few more towels. Calling again did no good at all. Staff was not concerned and not helpful.
Reservation staff: Rude and unhelpful.
Restaurant: Poor, poor service. Again, staff rude and unhelpful.

The park itself is lovely. How could it not be in the Georgia Mountains. We typically camp in a trailer but decided to give tent camping a try because of the size of our trailer. So that being said, we had to use the parks bathroom facilities for showering and well, you know. There was not a bathroom on our entire loop. We had to either walk up about three lots, no problem, and then walk down a very rough, very muddy, very slippery stepped path. Now there was another unofficial path behind our campsite that led to the bathroom but it was surrounded by poison ivy and poison oak. It rained both days we were there and our fire pit wS a pool. The weather could not be helped, I understand that, but there needs to be more bathrooms more conveniently placed for all of the campers and their safeties should really be considered.

Rooms are old and smelly. Carpets are filthy. The buildings smell bad. Our room was not clean. Bathroom floor was dirty I cleaned with a wash clothe and it was so dirty. Bath tub had hair on the wall. Not a good experience. We will not be going back ever! Did get a great burger in the bar.

Decided to stay in the lodge to check it out as I have camped at the park before and really enjoyed it. Upon checking in at the front desk I noticed a nonsmoking notice but I smelled smoke the attendant told me it must be on her clothes as she is a smoker and she had just come from a break. She assigned me to a room in the Dogwood bldg I will just say this bldg had a unusual smell but I went on. The first room was right above 4 ac units and she moved me upstairs which was fine great views. I went out upon my return noticed the vent in the bathroom was running. I was told that was the way it was. I closed the door to the bathroom and noise not too bad I did tell the desk about the room smell and they did have someone clean the room and it was better. I walked through the other buildings and they were totally different fresh smelling with reading areas centrally located so much better than the D building. I did notice a lady leaving her room across from mine the next morning and she was beside herself and said she needed to get to a better hotel. I went to check out the patio area and interrupted a worker on a smoking break, oh well. This place can be ok just don't stay in the Dogwood bldg even if they tell you it's their newest bldg it's an old bldg that's been refurbished?? The Ga State Park system is awesome and I have always enjoyed the parks, the lodge is run by a separate outfit with questionable standards. I will say the workers I talked to were super polite I have no complaints with any of them even the smokers.

We came up for a last minute weekend away. I booked a King room for me and the misses. The rooms are pretty plain. So if your looking for a more romantic feel these might not be for you. The setting, view and overall grounds of the facility are very nice. The rooms really need to be renovated though. Our shower head had the water pressure of a baby bird spitting water, it was almost comical.The chair in the room felt like it was around since the 80's. I might try a cabin next time.

Men's bathroom aside the park was great! We tented it up and the sites were clean and so was the park. Definitely a place I will go back to. Ruby falls was awesome. Ice was 2.50/bag. Activities are expensive but if you have the time. The beach is clean and rental prices are cheap. Overall excellent place and we will be going back!
