***DO NOT USE U-HAUL** There are multiple reviews here with same experience. At approx 11am Friday I scheduled an 8am Saturday appt for a hitch installation. Called Walkers Point 2pm Friday afternoon to confirm appt time is good and they are expecting me. I was advised my appt is confirmed and they will see me at 8am. 5pm Friday I get a call stating no one is there on Saturday to install hitches. I advised they needed to find a location as I was paid in full and wanted this done in the morning. They advised they would call back in 30 minutes. No one called. Saturday morning I called and spoke with corporate customer service. They were surprised I was told this and sent a message directly to the manager of Walkers Point (Tim) to contact me right away. I never heard from him. Called Monday and spoke with customer service again. They refused to allow me to speak to anyone in corporate management and transferred me to several different departments with no results. After spending a couple hours on the phone with them I demanded a refund as they still fraudulently charged my card without performing any service. It is clear there is no corporate oversight and the individual locations and incompetent managers (Tim) are allowed to function in a pathetic state mediocrity with complete disregard for customers. The fact that this continues to happen with customers scheduling appointments they continue to cancel confirms severe incompetence at the corporate level and reinforced by the extreme incompetence with the manager at Walkers Point U-Haul.
Nice location, but two issues: 1) they overbooked and had to downsize my truck. Fortunately it wasn't an issue for me, but it could have been. 2) silly policies require a second phone number (I have cell only) which created a weird situation.
Agree with other comments below. Scheduled a vehicle online 2wks in advance. Was told HOURS before move that my requested vehicle was two-way move only, and I had a one-way move. Why did the website let me reserve the vehicle then? Had to spend 30min on the phone trying to get a similar sized vehicle at same price for my move.
In person experience also awful.
INFESTED WITH COCK ROACHES, RATS, AND MICE!!
I trusted the name U-Haul, I had no worries leaving my property at the Walker location since it was with in miles of my move. I paid the monthy fees and purchased the insurrance for protection of my property. Two months later I rented a U-HAUL truck and proceeded to load my belongings on the carts. My dad noticed mice droppings right away as we continued loading my boys and i were rolling the carts with boxes etc. and my boys jumped back and said oh shhhhh something just crawled out I immediately looked only to find cock roaches in the boxes. I went immediately back into their office and spoke to management who was basically emtionless and asked me to take pictures of crawling roaches. During this time my dad brought them a dead mouse that was inside my couch. Still the three employees we're emtionless. As if they knew or have dealt with these issues before. I has to thrown out clothing,, toys, appliances, etc. There is more to this story I wish i had time to explain.I just hope that u read my post and stay away from this dirty INFESTED facility. My complaint doesnt stop here. Oh and the insurrance company won't return my 15 calls, yet.
Three words: god awful incompetence! I scheduled a hitch install online for Saturday at 8:30 am. A day later I get a call that they can't do it on Saturday because there is no installer at work that day, so I ask for an evening appointment on a week day and was told I could do 5:00 pm on Friday.
Two days later I get a call confirming my appointment for "8:00 am on Friday." Obviously that was wrong, so I called and spoke to a woman who told me I could do a "drop-off appointment" on Saturday. I said, "oh you have an installer that day? Great!"
The next day I get a voice mail telling me they don't have a hitch installer on Saturday, so they moved my appointment back to Friday morning.
Friday morning I get a call from them wanting to confirm the morning appointment, and the guy complains to me that I keep making appointments when they don't have an installer. What!?!? He also goes on to tell me that he has an installer on Saturday, but that he can't make appointments that day because it's "blocked off." He then wants to argue with me about my scheduling experience, making it sound like I'm the one causing all the confusion. I stopped him and demanded my money back immediately. I'll buy from somebody else and have them do the install.
First of all, why am I able to make an appointment in their online system when there is no appointment available? Then, why are his employees giving me appointments over the phone when there isn't an installer available? Finally, how the hell is this my fault that your online reservation system and employees keep giving me appointments when nobody is available?
I will never use this location ever again for anything.
The gentleman that helped us out was the only person working. After waiting 10 awkward minutes, he accidentally programmed my entry card the wrong way. When I went to my storage unit, the alarm sounded. After letting a different employee know about it, she tried but after 20 minutes she failed to reprogram a new entry card. Next time I go to put more items in my storage shed, I will have to wait yet again to see if they can fix the issue. Even though frustration levels were above average, the employees continued to help fix the problem until they couldn't anymore. Go here for a truck rental, not a storage unit rental.
I would never recommend this uhaul to anyone. If we didn't have to use this uhaul because of work I would avoid this one completely. We have been to every uhaul around from chicago to madison and this is by far the worst one. Not only are the workers lazy and incompetent they are crooks. They over charge you when returning equipment and do not inform you when charging your credit card or adding services. NEVER USE THIS PLACE OF BUSINESS! TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE!
I would highly recommend avoiding this U-hual location at all cost. Most of the staff members are incompetent and many of them display horrible personal hygiene. They are crooks and most time the gas and mileage are going to be way off. In the unfortunate event you have to deal with the 1st street Uhual, I recommend you double check their work just as you would with a fast food restaurant full of high school drop outs, because odds are they got your order wrong.
I do not recommend using haul storage! First month, they tried charging me for 2 storage units when I only rented one. Spent so much time on the phone with numerous people who were convinced I owed them for 2 units. Upon move out I discovered there was a rat infestation in the building and much of my belongings covered in feces. The manager told me insurance doesn't cover vermin and he would offer me free uhaul boxes. I pointed out to him that the insurance does cover vermin and boxes aren't much of a consolation and he refused to help me and said I could only deal with insurance. Now, 3 weeks post move out they are still trying to charge me for my empty unit that has a uhaul lock on it saying ready for move in! Everything about this experience has been an issue and a pain to deal with!!!
Better service than the ones on s 108 st. Very quick, efficient and friendly. Couldn't ask for more from uhaul.
Rented a truck from this location with little issue. The staff were helpful even though I had to be "that guy" and come during the final half hour of their open hours. They explained the process very well, got us a truck, and we were on our way - almost. The form said we had to return the truck with 9/16 a tank of gas, but we didn't even have 1/2 a tank to begin with! The attendants helped and marked the form to reflect the mistake, and we left. No problems with the truck (except that the Check Engine light was on the whole time) and dropping it off with the key at the end of the day went fine. No crazy fees, paid less than anticipated, overall positive experience.
