Loved it at this place! The balcony light there was no option to turn it off anywhere but other than that, the staff was great, rooms and bed was amazingly comfortable!!! You can fall asleep in a jiffy and most importantly the walls are NOT* paper thin. 👌

This hotel was great for the price. Awesome location and each room has a balcony looking out at the ocean

Amazing off season stay at the Surfer Beach Hotel. Staff was friendly and responsive to needs. Room was clean and tidy. Price was very reasonable. I think we had the best room for our needs which made our stay delightful.
We traveled with a dog and baby so having their corner room on the ground floor gave us convenient access to the pool, patio, and beach. We also had a partial ocean view from our room.
TIPS: You can call in for pricing, they will generally price match any lower priced deals as long as they can reproduce your search.
Pet Fee during our stay was a one time $50, so it was very reasonable compared to other places charging it per day.
Parking is $17 per day. We managed to find convenient street parking instead since it was off season. Plenty of spaces available at night.

I do have to agree with other reviewers that their carpet is disgusting. Granted that it's from people walking in and out tracking dirt and sand from the beach. Hopefully the hotel can discard those and replace it with a cleaner option that will not retain sand and saltwater.

Great stay! I was looking for a room where I could hear and see the ocean. This place is perfect- far enough away from nearby bars so you can't hear the noise (lots of places to eat nearby), close enough to hear the waves all the time. Staff Mercedes & Maurice were very helpful and kind! It's within walking distance to lots of places to eat, rent bikes, shop, etc. I did laundry- one washer one dryer in a small room where only one person has a key at a time, which was nice. This is an old building, so if you need ADA accommodations I'd call to see what options there are (has an elevator and everything, I'd call to make sure bathroom etc was big enough). Exactly what I was looking for at a reasonable price (there are cheaper places nearby but are not on the ocean). A restaurant is connected to the building as well. Steps from the beach. Would stay again!

Great view, friendly staff and good prices. Right on the beach so the kids love watching the surfers. The hotel overall is a little dated but well worth it for the location. Just don't expect a luxury resort.

Reminds me of everything I have ever seen on television about being in paradise, literally beach side entry and clean pool, the showers are hot and high pressure. View of the ocean and the board walk, can enjoy the beach even sitting on the balcony, would recommend to anybody that want to experience San Diego like it was in the 50s or 60s style in modern rooms and accommodations.

Great location. It was awesome listening to the surf as we slept. The hotel is kinda old and rundown, especially the pool area. The room was carpeted which was old and kinda gross. It really was a very basic, simple room but did have a large parking lot.

Great location. Clean room. Enough towels. Had to pay extra to park, $17. If u want a balcony that faces the ocean, get a suite; otherwise its a pool view with a tiny bit of ocean. Not a great place for smokers. Must go all the way outside, no smoking of anything on the balcony.

Clean rooms, comfy bed, steps away from the beach, tons of nearby shopping including a grocery store, fridge and microwave in room, very friendly and attentive staff, and every room has an ocean view. Only downside is the parking and the pool is extremely cold. So worth it for the location though. If your goal is spending time on the beach, having a small but comfortable room is fine. Oh, bring a power strip with you, because the room doesn't have a lot of empty Outlets.

Me and my husband have been staying here for 31 years. I enjoy coming to the surfer because of t b e view, we love the staff, always down to earth and willing to accommodate us as much as they can. The staff recognizes our long term stay with them and gives us the respect we appreciate. If Tim ever left surfer we would be sad, corporate needs to value him as a valuable asset. Tim is approachable, respectable, a sense of humor that has us rolling and he genuinely cares for his guest!! We have another staff member that is growing on us. Carla please keep your smile and sense of humor, it's contagious and we love it!! Thank Laura for us too, we don't see you much but we appreciate your helpfulness, understanding. We love you guys and will be back in August!!!!!

Awesome location and the staff is as friendly and helpful as can be. Rooms are a little on the small side and the bed is extremely hard. I also was not fond of the frosted windows in the bathroom. I just don't like any windows that are low enough for people to peer in even if not opened. The room could have also used a small table and a couple chairs to watch TV in. All you could do was sit on the bed. The view is to die for and we slept with the patio door open every night and absolutely loved hearing the surf.

This hotel was no frills but had a great rate for being right next to the beach. Room was clean and staff was personable.

Small room. No seating in room. Bathroom is dated. Not very clean. At check in were told our room was ground floor behind restaurant. So we ended up paying 30.00 more for third floor ocean view. Also they charge 17.00 to park. At 10 pm my husband asked about discount parking and was told since we booked through 3rd party there was no discount. Was a Monday night so not full at all. I have been upgraded many times before at no extra cost . It's called customer service . The very least wouldn't have been to discount parking . Ocean front is the ONLY good thing here. Sadly it's ALL about the money grab here. I would NOT call this a Hotel more
    like Motel. 😑

We came to Pacific Beach with no reservations and stumbled on this great hotel. From the moment we walked in the staff was very friendly and helped us find a great rate for the weekend. Carla at the front desk was especially nice to us and gave great recommendations for activities and food around the area. All the rooms have an ocean view and the beds were clean and comfortable. Overall we had a pleasant stay and I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Pacific Beach area.

Great stay. The room is a little small for a "family suite" but definitely sufficient. Nice big balcony with great views and the small kitchenette (no cooktop) offers refrigeration & food storage (microwave foods, cereal, sandwiches). All in all a great value. Clean room, hot shower. Very nice.
