We are a plant-based couple, and there are quite a few restaurant options available to us, but this is by far our favorite. The food and service is always wonderful, the atmosphere is lively, fun, kid-friendly, and also intimate and intellectual. If you live in the Cleveland area, and are either vegetarian, vegan, or open-minded to either, this is the place.

I'm willing to wager probably the best coffee in Lakewood. The employees are nice and friendly. The enviroment is large but cozy with local art for sale on the walls. The serve amazing food as well and have a commitment to using locally sourced products.

A fun, mindful, comfortable location! The staff is friendly and is very helpful regarding allergy concerns. The sunbutter cookies are awesome! This is also a great space to hear local artists share the talent or jam together.

Great food, great people, great atmosphere. Nothing else to say really. They use local organic ingredients. Food is vegetarian/ vegan.

Their pizza is the best around.

I REALLY wish I could give this place 5 stars because I love the atmosphere and love the coffee. But the service is just not great. Very slow

Nice lunch spot right off of Detroit. Be prepared to see some creative dishes that cater to vegetarians in a unique atmosphere. Food is great, I can't wait to go back and try some other dishes.

I love everything about this cafe. The atmosphere, food, clientele, and staff have always been interesting. The food is very good and always changing based on current availability and seasonal variations in local produce. Vegan options are plentiful and delicious. Did I mention vegan bakery?

Hands down the best vegan and organic/local/healthy food available in Cleveland, and the Rising Star coffee is served to perfection. The in-house pastries rotate frequently and are delicious. If you are in a rush, keep in mind that they are not serving fast food - REAL food takes time, particularly when cooked with care and love. The Culture (sandwich) will change your life. Great staff, kind and friendly owners and an inimitably-eclectic atmospherethis is our third place, and this author owes much of the progress on his books to The Root!

Pleasantly surprised. I have a very restrictive diet- vegetarian, dairy-free, gluten-free, no added sugar- So obviously I'm usually lucky to find a single menu item that I can eat and usually zero that are interesting or delicious. I had so many options I couldn't choose. Everything sounded amazing, and everything I ordered was indeed amazing. Very happy, will definitely be back!

This vegetarian hangout also has vegan and gluten-free options, with plenty of non-dairy milk for your fancy coffee drinks. Food can sometimes be slow (it's not fast food by any stretch of the imagination), but it's worth waiting for. Great place for lunch or just a cookie and coffee break. It can get crowded and a bit noisy sometimes, but who can blame everyone for wanting to hang out in such a chill environment? Local art and occasional live music are an added bonus. Chocolate fans should definitely give the Black and Tan a try.

Hot chocolate was OK. Didn't try their coffee but it was relatively inexpensive so that's always nice. Atmosphere was very hipster, which I tend to enjoy. They have chess on some of the tables and I think that's really fun to have, though I didn't play.

Overall not a bad place to come for coffee or to chat with a friend. If I'm getting coffee in the area again I would probably try somewhere else.
