Went here last night for dinner on a friend’s recommendation. We ordered Big Boy which is a platter of mixed meats- ribs, brisket, roast chicken and chopped barbecue. It also came with 2 sides. We chose the heirloom collard greens and Brunswick stew which chicken with beans and peas. My husband and I shared the platter which is enough for 2 moderately hungry people. They served a basket of hush puppies with 2 biscuits before serving the platter.

Overall we love the roast chicken, the biscuit/hush puppy basket and the collard greens side as well as the smoked ribs. The Brunswick stew was on the saltier side. The chopped barbecue wasn’t our thing. It’s a bit dry. The brisket was okay.

Both the service and ambience was wonderful. We didn’t wait long for the food to come once we ordered and we were able to see how they smoke the meats. The staff were very accommodating.

Upon arrival we definitely thought that The Pit was going to meet the hype. The service was very good, you get endless biscuits and hush puppies for the table. The restaurant is very neat and upscale inside.
We ordered the fried green tomatoes were under seasoned and pretty unimpressive. I thought the soup and sandwiches were pretty good, but the sides were very underwhelming. We also had to wait quite awhile for our food. Overall it wasn't as good as we thought it would be, but it was still okay.

Good food. The only thing I didn't like was my side of Mac and cheese. Wasn't creamy at all. More like buttered noodles with less than melted cheese. GREAT SERVER. Brian was our main server and was so nice and helpful. We also had the banana pudding, very good!!!

Visiting from Boston for a few days, I just had to enjoy some barbecue where they know how to do it right. My hotel recommended The Pit, a short walk, and it did not disappoint. The food was g-o-o-d. My first night I had the combo of baby backs and brisket. The brisket was nice and lean, but tender and juicy. The ribs were crisp on the outside, tender and juicy inside, just as they should be.

Second night (after a 90 minute workout!) I went back, this time for the baby back/fried chicken combo. The fried chicken was perfect, like nothing I can get at home -- crunchy on the outside, thoroughly juicy inside with not a hint of either the meat being dry or the skin being mushy.

The restaurant itself is clean and welcoming while still maintaining an informal feel; the staff is very friendly. The music is kept to a reasonable volume; the first night when I ate at the bar I could easily maintain a conversation with someone else who was in Raleigh for the first time. It's likely not the cheapest place around, but it's well worth the money if you enjoy barbecue.

Bottom line: if you like barbecue, and you're ever in Raleigh, you owe it to yourself to pay The Pit a visit.

This is some good eating. The menu is longer and all fixings were tasty. Of course, I could only have a meal, but others around me said their food was good. I typically don't eat restaurants' macaroni and cheese, but I dared to be different while in Raleigh. It didn't disappoint nor did the fried okra. As the main event, I had the chopped BBQ which was really good supplemented by their signature vinegar and sugar-based sauces. Good stuff! Bartenders were nice which always goes a long way!

One of my all-time favorite restaurants in the Raleigh area. The wings as an appetizer are absolutely lights out. So is the Fried Chicken, so light and crispy and moist. They always have a deal that for $25 you get an appetizer, entree and a shared dessert. It is the way to go by far!

We went to Raleigh for 2 days just for a trip and just so happen to Google good BBQ. It was between The Pit and Ole BBQ. So glad we picked this place the food was great and we were basically in and out within an hour. We were served biscuits and hush puppies but our food came so fast we didn't need to start eating them. The staff members were all working together like a team. Coming from Virginia we were expecting good BBQ but this was beyond expectations. Will definitely come again next time we drive by.

Great place solid go to for some upscale barbecue. First the barbecue is great they do it well. Next it a little more classy than the normal barbecue joint one might go to. Staff was great over all. The only think that knocks this down is the lack when it comes to large parties. Went here twice the week I was in town once with a party of 4 that was fine next with a party of 10 and that seemed to be a bit much. Beer selection was great as well covering all beer types.

Bottom line go here just not with a large party.

Great atmosphere, great service, great beer menu & great fried chicken. The chopped pork is not bad but I have had better. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. The tiny hush puppies are worth the price of admission. My 2 year old loved most of it but the pork sandwich was a little too spicy for him so he only took a couple bites. He is not a picky eater either. They should mention that it has a tiny kick when you order it since it is on the kids menu.

This is THE best BBQ you will ever have at a restaurant. Southern comfort food at its finest at a price you cannot beat for the quality and taste of food with a pretty lively atmosphere. This was our first visit to this location (previously went to the Durham location). Quite busy on a Saturday night. But the friendly and helpful staff helps people get in and out with great efficiency but does not make the seated customer feel rushed. Definitely a must try !!!

A true gem of Raleigh. Meats that fall apart and are juicy. Plates and combinations that the whole family can enjoy. A place to take a date or go solo, but you'll likly wait or need to put in a reservation. I had four types of meats and all were mouthwatering goodness. The service was prompt even in the last hours of the evening. A great place to kickoff or end a weekend with you friends or family. Best of all you're just down the street from a few other venues to hop to before or after your meal. I find myself returning here time and time again.

I was told this was the best BBQ in the triangle. In a nutshell it was just okay. We were rushed from the moment we got there. They had us in and out in under 30 min and there was an air of them trying to get us out which killed the atmosphere. I wasn't sure if it was because we didn't order alcohol (sorry I'm 9 months pregnant) or if they were overbooked and just needed the table. The food was so so. The sides were decent but the BBQ itself was not the best I have ever had or the best in the Triangle for that matter. Members of our party also felt the pulled pork was too spicy. Wouldn't go back for the price and wouldn't recommend it to friends.

I was told this was the end all be all place to come get BBQ in the area. The restaurant was a lot more high end looking on the inside than most BBQ places. It appeared as though they had a good selection of craft beers. I ordered the double meat plate with chopped BBQ and baby back ribs. Chopped BBQ had good flavor and was tender. Ribs were very tender and the bone pulled out with the meat staying in place. They also had good flavor. I had green beans and mac and cheese as sides both of which were good. They brought out some complimentary hush puppies which might have been the best part, and I'm not a huge hush puppy fan. Service was okay.

The restaurant was nice but we were greeted by a lady who was a little rude . We asked for a booth and she did a little eye roll action.. I was like " really" ? She seated us in a booth. I wasn't a fan of multiple waiters, there wasn't that personal touch. The BBQ Chicken that was cooked in the Pit was dry. The sides were okay, the sweet potato fries were cold. All in all, the only think I really liked was the restaurant it's self, it's well done but that's about it.

The food was really good, but in large portions- had to bag the dinner. The chopped BBQ was really good meat wise, but was too spicy. The baby back ribs were out of this world - really recommend. Had the baked beans and the mac and cheese- the beans were a bit spicy but the mac and cheese was quite good.
Make sure to leave some space for the banana pudding! Good service and great atmosphere, but the spicy food and the large portions knocked a star off.
