My twin boys absolutely loved this place. It was filled with so many fun and adventurous things for ppl of all ages to do. The employees were courteous and provided great service. My sons enjoyed seeing the dinosour exhibits.

The whole family loves this museum. The first few times we visited we did not realize there was a second building with dinosaur and whale skeletons. What a great place for the whole family! We tend to come on weekends which means easy parking in the garage directly beside the building (free in weekends.) my daughter,s favorite is the butterfly room and my son’s favorite is the whale shark skeleton and beaver dam. We’ve been at least fifteen times and it never gets old!

Lots of good learning to be done here! A guy came out of one of the labs and made "clouds" in plastic bottles. Great exhibits about North Carolina, from the coast, piedmont, and mountains. Fossils galore of several whales and dinosaurs, a giant sloth. And of course, lots of stuff about the weather, environment, and history of NC.

Enjoyed this museum very much! We were headed to a second day at marbles children's museum but this Free place held my 2 year olds interest for the 3 hours we had to spend. Friendly staff at the check in desk, cafe, & upstairs gift shop. I found fun things to buy in both gift shops. We enjoyed the whale skeletons, dinosaur displays, bugs, snakes, & mammal displays. My son enjoyed riding the escalators a lot. We had a nice lunch at the cafe & it was fun to be able to watch the butterflies through the huge window while we ate. (If you want to go inside this display be aware that it is closed on Mondays). Very enjoyable visit. Would love to go again next time we are in Raleigh. It looked like there were a lot of things for kids a bit older to do (labs, workshops, etc. I Would call and get info on those things if you have older children because they appeared to be time specific). Excellent place!

Excellent time. There are many hands on things to do. Make sure you take the bridge to the other building and see everything they have to offer there.

My sister and I are adults and we still enjoyed our visit. The live animal exhibits are my favorite ones. The butterflies are gorgeous. Surprisingly I took away a lot of knowledge about snakes! Didn't think that's be what would happen but had a lot of fun.

Me and my 3 best friends and their kids loaded up into two cars and headed here. Kids 3-10 in age. Most play dates we dread "is it time to leave yet?!" Nope not this trip! It was entertaining for all ages!

We went here because I like fossils and museums and were pleasantly surprised to find out that it's free! After dropping a dollar in the donation box, we wandered in to see a deceptively small exhibit about the plants, animals and birds, and even rocks local to North Carolina. That was especially fun because I was able to name the Lady Slippers in an exhibit upstairs because I learned what it was downstairs first. We wandered over to the underwater exhibit first, which had almost no live animals in it, but I liked that you could see things being eaten by other things like parasites, which I've never seen in any other museum. We were so interested in seeing all of that, that we totally missed noticing that we were walking under whale fossils!!! We went upstairs and carefully examined each one. I even liked seeing the scarring on the rib bones of one whale from a boat, even though that was sad to see. Then we saw the natural habitats of all kinds of local flora and fauna. I appreciated that it was all either fake or stuffed so I didn't have to feel bad for the animals for living in that cramped cage, like I usually do at exhibits. I even enjoyed seeing the cross section of cuts from the Earth itself as people dug down for mining or whatever. Finally, we ended up in the hands-on area for kids, and touched a lot of really textured and interesting things like antlers and rocks and more. This museum exceeded my expectations and I would recommend it to anyone curious about any aspect of nature.

We took our 3.5 and 5 year olds here on a Sunday and found it was free admission. There are three floors of exhibits and most of the items are native to NC. They cover all the geographic areas of the state (coastal, savannah, and mountains) and have both live animal/insect displays as well as dioramas. Informative and fun, there was a good crowd and fun and interesting for kids and parents alike.

Great museum with various exhibits. The museum and exhibits are free. Many hands-on labs that great for all ages.

If you've never been before, know that there are two wings of the museum separated by a sky bridge. I'd hate for you to miss out on half of what this museum has to offer.

The museum is a great place to spend a day if you are in town. There are large numbers of interactive exhibits, and the new wing has loads of cutting edge technology.

Whether you are young or old, this is a fantastic place to go.

I've gone here multiple times and still plan on going back. They've updated not to long ago, added an interactive side to the museum. There's a room you can go into with hundreds of specimens to look at, touch, and explore. There are birds, butterflies, turtles, beetles, foxes, anything you can think of.

The other side of the museum is where the older exhibits are. The dinosaurs, plants, bugs, the eras, so on. It's also where they house they ever changing special exhibits. I've been to two so far and they were both creative, fun, and engaging exhibits.

If you're feeling a little hungry, give the cafe a try. I had their club sandwich and it was absolutely delicious. Not only that, but the butterfly room is right next to the cafe, so you get to watch the butterflies while you eat.

If you're bored and looking for something to do or you're trying to take your kids on an educational adventure, swing by the museum. The admission is free and it's sure to garuntee a day full of fun adventures.
