Back of house great- the glasses people are only concerned with a bigger sale- they don't really listen they just want to push the options- the car dealer of sight. Know what you want and be firm!!
Purchased prescription eyewear for my mother as a gift. Eyewear was expensive. Less then a month of light wear and the lens coatings are peeling off on both lens. I've called several times to speak with a manager and was told they were not available. I left a message with a representative and I have not received any callbacks. Poor customer service and materials.
I cannot stand this place. Dr. Harmon is awesome, but the staff is rude and they do NOT try to work with you. I've been having issues with my eyes for the past 2 months and finally got a new contact prescription once my eyes were able to tolerate contacts. I took 2 unopened boxes that I bought from them a year ago to exchange for my new prescription and they would not take it. Why? Because in the 2 months that it took my eyes to calm down after 4 doctor's visits, I couldn't get a new prescription to switch the boxes. And I made a check mark on the boxes. A check mark to know which prescription is for the right eye. My old prescription was for monthly lenses. My new prescription is for daily lenses. I have astigmatism. My old lenses cost about $60 per box. The new lenses are significantly more because they are daily lenses for astigmatism. I said okay, even if they give me half of what I paid for the lenses I will take it because I know the daily lenses cost a lot. They refuse to take them, but were quick to "offer me a price match" for the new lenses. Really? Why would I give you my money after you refused to even try to work with me?
All of you contact lens wearers, Costco beat their price by $20. And you do NOT have to be a member to use the eye center or pharmacy at Costco. Take your money elsewhere and tell the Hour Glass or The Eye Doctor to shove it. BTW, I have gone to them several times in the 7 years I have been in Tallahassee. This was not a 1-time bad experience with them. They are just horrible all around.
I have been an Hour Glass customer for five years, mainly because they are cycling distance. Exams are efficient and accurate--Dr. Harmon is a peach--and I have always got inexpensive but durable frames. I have had no problems and consider them a quality shop--not as good as the glasses shop I used in China, but for America, not bad!
I visited the Hour Glass this morning as a walk in for my first pair of glasses on a relatives recommendation. Things couldn't have gone any better and despite being a very infrequent reviewer, I felt the need to post. The outside of the building was a little drab, but from the moment I walked in I could tell I had come to the right place. The inside was clean and modern and everyone was super friendly and very helpful. During sign in one of the receptionists even took the trouble to try to look up my insurance information online when I mentioned that I might be a part of a vision discount program (unfortunately I wasn't but the effort was much appreciated). I was seen quickly despite being a walk in and before long had met my new eye doctor who made me feel at ease while giving me lots of great info. After finishing up with the doctor I had my RX and was ready to pick frames. The gentleman assisting me was very patient and helpful during this process, offering choices and recommendations most suited to my face and line of work. Finally, when it comes to price I have to say I was very impressed. The staff made sure I was aware of all possible promotions and when there was some slight confusion on one of the advertised specials they generously sided in my favor. All in all, this is a first class establishment and I'm happy to have found such a great place!
