A favorite stop of ours. Be sure to try their deviled-eggs with pink peppercorns on a bed of arugula. The drinks are hand-crafted by some wizardry, and will make most other drinks in your life seem boring after you've had them. Awesome building with great views of the Riverwalk. Don't miss it!!

Came in for dinner. Had the onion dip for appetizer and the waffle fries were good and the dip was delicious. The burger was yummy and the homemade ketchup was different but tasted very good.. later came back to the downstairs bar and Bruno our bartender was very knowledgeable about all the drinks..we had Pleasant Conversation with him can't wait to visit again.

Husband and I came here for date night and had a great time. The environment is great as it always is, food was tasty. Meatloaf melt was perfect and my husband liked his lamb burger a lot. Their ketchup is weirdnot a fan of that.
Their drinks were made perfectly and delivered quickly and our server was great! Pleasant, informative, and attentive.response / report this review -

Best Manhattan I've had in a long time. Mini Chalupa's are a delightful complement to a well-made drink. Very old tavern here and well worth the visit

Everything about this place was enjoyable. The service was outstanding. Everyone we came in contact with was super pleasant. The atmosphere takes you back in time while the downstairs bar/restaurant has a dimly lit vibe & dare I say, trendy. Downstairs is where my only complaint lies. The bartender, Hank, took an amazing new experience & tainted it with his snobby, dismissive attitude towards my wife & I. I'm sorry someone with such poor people skills & no personality is allowed to be the first & sometimes last point of contact for such an amazing establishment. Hank dropped the ball & prevented this review from having 5 Stars. I hope nobody else has to have a similar experience with him. We'd definitely go back & enjoy another outing at this cool tavern, as one dimwit will not ruin this place outright. Cheers!

Service was awesome. The fried pickles are disgustingly delicious! No other way to say it. The bison burger p***ed me off because it was SO good. Oscar waited us and was definitely well informed on the menu and drinks. My wife and I actually came about 10 mins before the kitchen closed, but Oscar was able to not only get our food order in but he also gave us an awesome recommendation. This place is a must visit. Great burgers, awesome environment. I will definitely make another visit before leaving!

First time downtown and I'm glad I stopped by this place first. Started with the first house cocktail on the menu and was very happy. High end cocktails that taste great without being pretentiously bitter. Ended up getting a bison burger and loved it. The staff was really friendly and professional. Thanks!

Came here due to all the good reviews - was a little concerned with the 'tavern' since we were coming for food, not drinks. Although it took longer than we expected, our burger & side of fries was delicious. They had homemade condiments - all very tasty & menu listed care in sourcing meats etc. Patty was juicy (but not greasy) even though we ordered it well-done. The apple turnover was great too. Service was attentive without imposing. We will definitely go back (especially since finding good food downtown can be a challenge).

This place is usually good but been a while since we've visited. Came today on a wed and service at the bar was horrible. Had to keep asking for drinks and it wasn't very busy. I asked someone for a drink and he said he wasn't a bartender then left. Then asked another lady behind the bar how do you tell who's a bartender and she responded she had been around but was very rude that we decided not to order again. Food drinks and ambiance are good but customer service is key!

Ambiance is amazing. We went downstairs to the "speakeasy feel" bar. Great music, good lounge feel. Can't judge food as we never ate.
Downstairs deserves 5 stars but unfortunately the MANAGER ERIC ruined our experience, as we had a large party and people coming in and out. As another one of our friends was going to join us, he jumped in front of him, put a "reserved" sign on the table.
All of our party was very kind, even tried to talk to him. His comment: "I don't care about your check, I don't care about your tip, I care that you're breaking my rules" (max party of 8).
Let's keep something in mind, there was PLENTY of space next to us, plenty of space elsewhere, we were only going to spend more money, and he was a complete A$$. He should NOT be in the service industry period. Our friends had to wait and then sit in a completely different area - when there was SPACE next to us!!!!!
Oh! And icing on the cake? The "reserved" table? NO ONE came to sit there. Poor service AND a liar? No thank you.response / report this review -

The vibe at night is the right mix of dim light and wood that is very charming.
I liked the carafe of water left at the table and the service was friendly.
The artichoke dip was a good appetizer. The drinks are pretty high for what you get, that was disappointing.
Had the empanda, the spice was a little too sharp; no nuance of flavor.response / report this review -

Very popular downtown location. Keen on high-end mixology. Kitchen open until 1am with a creative menu lacking in vegetarian options. They also make a lot of their own ingredients -- their own pickles, their own soda water, etc. Live music and they get some great jazz bands.

Holy cow, this tavern was awesome! Featuring the longest wooden bar in the state of Texas, the Esquire has bountiful options for beers both on tap and otherwise. The food was phenomenal. I had the Frito pie, which features a pork and bean chili and smoked Gouda cheese with an onion dip followed by a fried apple pie. I can't wait to come back to town and try more options. If you're in San Antonio, this is a place you have to check out.
