A casual crab and lobster house right on the water. Easy parking lots near by. Good quality, well prepared. A good value for lobster and crab. Service has been better in years past, but good enough. The family style platters are the way to go. Super fun place with a large group.
This turned out to be far better than what I was expecting. My initial thoughts were "this is a tourist trap" and my wife insisted we take our parents there as a special "Bostonian" treat. And it payed off!
Great and nice service from the hostess and waitresses. The food was equally as timely and warm/cold as expected.
I was really thrilled with my lobster bisque, and my in-laws are still raving about their lobster rolls. I wouldn't be lying if I said, as of this post, the Barking Crab has my favorite lobster roll in Boston. But of course, that's just my opinion!
If you like crab and lobster and an on the water view of BOSTON Harbor its the place to be for CASUAL dinning in a rustic setting with excellent food prepared well.
Some of your fellow diners will be out of state and out of country travelers.
Festive and fun during lunch and dinner hours.
I visited in August and had a table on the railing next to the water- PERECT day.
We ordered crab cakes and lobster dip with nachos. For the main course we ordered fish and chips and grilled lobster with garlic and lemon sauce. I enjoyed most the lobster dip with the nachos which was light. In addition to the grilled lobster. With all the tools you use for eating the lobster it gives you the whole experience. I like the ambience of the place and location.
Got the Fisherman's Platter and it was excellent. The clams, haddock, shrimp and scallops were all amazing! The restaurant has a great location in the harbor. You have an amazing view of the water while you eat. The staff are also really friendly.
Fresh lobsters, crabs, shrimps and all kinds of seafood cooked in the purest and simplest way, mostly steamed and lightly salted. Place is always crowded even on Sunday nights. Parking is not available, you can find open street parking if you get lucky. Otherwise, pay park at one of the parking garages nearby.
The menu offers something for everyone, so there's no reason to leave disappointed.
This place was phenomenal: fast service; authentic food, which was filling and delectable; a really affable staff of relaxed people; and a mix of dope music that keeps the atmosphere buzzing.
The views from all around #TheBarkingCrab are very scenic and seem to be cut from a postcard.
Excellent experience.
The food was amazing! The atmosphere fantastic (if you like informal settings). The ambiance wonderful! You HAVE to try this place if you're in town (or if you live here and you've never been). Our server was super friendly, too.
It's definitely a cool building in a good location. They are definitely are way overpriced and I knew this before I ate there with my family today, the prices were clearly displayed on the the chalk board for the items marked "Market priced" on the menu. Can't complain about that. My Issue is when I see a 2 lb lobster priced for $54 I would expect to get a 2 lb lobster not a 1 1/4 lobster. I do eat lobster alot and have one tattooed on my elbow. The difference is easy to notice even if you are not familiar with these gems of the sea. A 2 lb lobster is about twice the size as a 1 1/4 lb lobster. 1 lobster at a 2 lb has a ton of meat and is a meal all by itself. My apologies to my waiter.
Great atmosphere, great service and excellent seafood. The calamari was so fresh and tender. The crabcakes were delicious and the fish and chips were excellent. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive.
Great place, great food, kids welcome. It's always so cheerful here. The naked lobster roll is a big favorite, as is the chowda. Live music, too! What a great place for lunch on Sunday!
Seafood was top notch (even I say that being allergic to several seafood items so I tend to shy away). The service was not so great. Atmosphere is very divey but cool. Certainly a cool place to go, sit outside if weather permits.
Arrived knowing it would be busy and asked the hostess to put my party's name on the list. She rolled her eyes and said it would be over an hour wait. I pressed on and asked her to put us on the list even though clearly she just wanted me to go away. She said she would text us once our table was ready. An hour and a half later, the crowd had cleared and we had not received a text as we had gone across the street to get a drink while we waited. I walked back in inquiring about our table and was told by my old friend the hostess that we "were next" and would seat us right awayyeah right. She clearly had zero intent of managing her queue properly. More eye rolls. Ultimately the food was un inspired, the water they served us had what looked like fish food floating in it and all around we walked back to the hotel remarking that overall, the Barking Crab was just not worth it.
So disappointed. Locals recommended this place for the atmosphere but when we arrived the two male hosts were extememly rude, told us they were at capacity and when we said we could wait they had lied because it was closed for a private party. They should have said that from the beginning and it would have been fine. Not sure they really care since they were drinking beer and living it up. I wouldn't recommend. The local told us the food is just okay anyway, but the atmosphere was great. Guess we'll never know.
