The food here was awful. Fooled by the romantic look to the place, only to eat "crispy" Brussels sprouts that were burnt to ash and had the mouthfeel of dead grass drizzled with too much vinaigrette. The steak with Gorgonzola was flavorless, the garlic mashed potatoes with no garlic, and broccoli rabe that was stems. Equally flavorless packaged gravy was no demi glacé. 1 star. Don't bother. 60$ for the worst steak of my life and the most abused Brussels sprouts I've ever seen.

Amazing food. Salmon was perfectly cooked, pink, juicy and flaked apart with a touch of my fork. Wonderful spot outside on the deck listening to live music. Highly recommended for date night or for dinner and conversation.

Genial and helpful service. A surprising mixture of the antique and the modern (A beautiful brick building with WiFi!). A spacious patio with a restaurant serving excellent food Wednesday through Sunday. Including breakfast service, it all contributes to a friendly atmosphere where you can get to know the other guests. Easy access by car to New Paltz and scenic tourist spots like Mohonk Preserve. My wife and I have been repeat guests since 2014. We ended each say in clean, well kept rooms with the most comfortable beds that get you ready and energized for the next day. Madly in love with the 1850 House!

The 1850 House is a recent addition to the Rosendale area. Recently renovated and nicely appointed it has 11 rooms and one of those rooms is a 2 bedroom suite. When it first opened it was simply a place for lodging but has since grown. It now has a bar, restaurant with small plates and regular portioned meals, and an ample seating lounge area as well as an outdoor deck overlooking the Rondout Creek. Mike the owner is always around and is gracious and hospitable.

I grew up in Rosendale I remember what it used to look like before Mike took it over what a beautiful job he did every room is unique the bartender always has something different and delicious to make as you sit outside on they're beautiful patio the other night it got it a little chilly and Mike came around with beautiful cozy blankets to enhance my stay I didn't have to leave as the weather and temperature changed I only got more comfortable.. there's a great menu not a lot on it but what they do have is fantastic delicious and cooked to order I'm very happy with my experience each and every time I visit I have not spent the night there as I do live in the area but I have viewed the rooms and they are spectacular

Everything at the 1850 exceeded our expectations, even after reading other great reviews. The staff was very dedicated and friendly; the breakfast was rich and tasty, with many healthy options; the room was larger in person than on the pictures; the common room downstairs with the fireplace was amazing, especially in the evening. There's an outdoors deck and an extremely short walk to the water where you can sit down and contemplate the stars with little light pollution.

We traveled in winter, when there weren't many people staying; I hope you get the same experience during your stay regardless of the time of the year.

The only downside is that there isn't much to do in the Rosendale town. Fortunately you're only 13 minutes away from New Paltz, which is slightly more lively, and 20 from the Mohonk Preserve.

    1/6/17:

I had a wonderful 2-night stay here at the Inn. The photos online don't do it justice, as the attention to detail was astounding. I enjoyed the rustic old look coupled with the modern and up to date accommodations. Coming during the wintertime and mid-week was an interesting experience, as the low traffic offered a very quiet and intimate atmosphere to spend in this B&B. The room I was in was fantastic and the bed and pillows were so comfortable. The staff I met, Jimmy, Debra, and John were attentive and very friendly! I really had no problems with my stay.
Last but not least, the breakfast both days was so delicious and the presentation didn't disappoint. It is a beautiful place and I would go again.
