Beautiful scenic drive. Winding through the mountains and the woods, fall colors were amazing. I highly recommend this if you love a wild curving drive and have plenty of time for endless switchbacks in a gorgeous setting.
Closed at 5pm but the hours say 6pm. I don’t get it. There were 6 of us looking to go in. I’m giving it 3 stars because I’ve been in the past and it’s a good shop.
To many adults acting like children. Ridiculous how these grown men and women act when they come here. They have a few deaths and a lot of injuries due to people acting like US 129 is a race track. For some reason these low iq individuals think just because they have the same type of car or bike they must follow each other around. I always wondered where the liberals hung out and now I know. Why does the police continue to let these Neanderthals use 129 for a race track? They ban trucks which used to run the road a lot but won't ban these wannabe racers.
This is an advanced rider road. Newbies should not attempt riding this.
There are cops during the weekends and too many people. Best time to go is during weekdays and after 5pm on weekends.
There are two gift shop on the NC side and two gas pumps. Deals Gap resort offers clean washrooms and have a restaurant with cheap food prices. Food is good.
As a tip: ride within your limits. There is a real danger that you can have a frontal collision with an idiot who crossed the line.
There are loads of photo booths along the road, don't try to show off. It's unsafe for everyone.
This road is absolutely crazy. We visit every year towards the end of summer. Scenery is beautiful, people are very friendly, and the town is well cared for. Great place. I highly recommend visiting if you're a car or motorcycle enthusiast.
The best place to cut loose in your car (for free at least.) I just wish there were more passing areas and signs informing people to be courteous to drivers who they’re holding up by going ten under the speed limit. Why people can be so ignorant is beyond me. Still five stars because I’m reviewing the road, not the humans on it.
This place is like home for me! Great owners, great staff and just a friendly place that welcomes everyone. Thank you so much Ron and Nancy for all you do for me and my fellow motorcycle riders.
You must go out of your way to hit this, if you love lateral rollercoasters. And no, the motorcyclists only think they own it. Common misconception. Drive fast enough and they'll understand. I hit it on 5/5/17 and it was my third time, but this time in a 1987 BMW 535is with no [active] ABS and a slowly pressurizing brake system, but whatever, I survived and drove home to NJ.
It's a novelty place. Slay the Dragon just to say you did it. If you're hungry, be for warnedThe food is awful!!!everything is once or twice fried. Good cold beer is a plus. So bring a snack that compliment beer and enjoy.
Can say anything that hasn't been said before about the Tail of the Dragon. Great time. Great curves. Sometimes to many cars and motorcycles trying to use the same road. But always have a great time.
The souvenir shop is fine. But what you're really here for is just down the road in the form of 13 miles of curvy awesome roads. Go there instead. Then come here and get your t shirt and do the drive again. You know what you're REALLY here for.
11 miles 313 turns..Motorcycles and sports cars get the most benefit out of this exciting road. Twists, turns and lots of fun. I couldn't get much over 50 MPH because the next turn would come up on you that quickly.
