Great hill as far as Iowa goes, nicely kept up with a reasonable variety of slopes. Staff were accommodating and friendly. Lodge space pretty limited. Overall, a great place to spend a day.

Great price and great service! Didn't know about this little gem of a ski resort - we were looking around for mountains and finally realized these slopes go down towards the Mississippi river, not up towards a mountain! Friendly staff and great setup for new learners!

Sundown is your typical Midwest ski "resort". When not too crowded, it is a pretty good place to ski. They have a healthy mix of easy to moderate runs. I would not call any of them overly difficult, especially if you have ever skied out west.

Prices are very reasonable. From the lift ticket, to rentals (they even rent ski pants and jackets for $5 each plus a deposit), to the food in the restaurant, it is all pretty reasonable for a ski "resort".

Not for advanced skiers. Very few runs and they are short. Good for beginners. The snowmaking is better than other places. But most of the time the snow is icy when temperature drops.

Food is not very good. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

Terrain park is decent.

We had a great time here! It was a very busy day, but we still waited only a few minutes in lift lines. There are enough green & blue runs to have variety when coming down the hill. Skiers of differing skill levels can split up and easily meet again. There are only two black runs, which was ok with our family, and there are two terrain parks. Dining area was crowded, but they had quite a few choices and good was reasonably priced. Staff in all areas were friendly and helpful. We'll be returning!

Open seasonally for winter sports fun But in the summer this West facing hilltop is a magnificent spot to watch the sun settinghence, the perfect name for this location.. Sundown Mountain.

Let's be honest, when you go to this resort, don't expect to be waist-deep in powder. This is Iowa skiing! And for the great plains, this is a cozy little resort a short distance away from Iowa City. Rentals are quick and easy, but there can be lines when waiting to get your boots fitted to your skis. Keep in mind, they don't offer "demos", but the skis you get are good enough for a day on the slopes. Expect runs to be short, no longer than a minute or two. The lifts also take a while to get to the top of the hill. The snow made by Sundown was a bit icy the last time I went (during Febuary, it was a couple degrees above freezing) but you should expect this when the temperature is above 32. For lunch, I advise you bring your own food, as prices are steep. But the environment is nice. From the North Lodge, there is a great view from the balcony, and there is good service. Overall, a great place to ski for a day, and while it might not be up to par to resorts in the Rockies and other mountains, it's the best you'll get in Iowa.

Known as Sundown Mountain to the delusional and Rundown Hill to the rest. Don't let the name mislead you. It's not a "Mountain" as I hope everyone already knows and it's not a resort. Far from a resort and the only bed you will be lying in is a medical cot after you receive a concussion racking your head off their hill of ice.

Don't try to have fun because you're likely to get your pass pulled. The ski patrol hates it when you smile. Dress in layers because sitting in single digit temperatures is what you will be doing most of your visit. With serious speed checks you might make a run last a minute. Then it's up the worlds slowest chairlift. The absent minded stoners running the lifts are payed commission for the amount of spills guest take when getting onto lifts. This is why their lifts stop every 5 minutes as you're ridding up.

After a 30 some minute ride to the top your toes will be nearing severe cold trauma. Like any reasonable person, you will make your way to one of the few lodges and join the herd of cold miserable people waiting in line to buy foods priced so steep you'll think the fries are world renowned. They're not. Nothing but pricing for the sake of "convenience". From sunrise to sundown, I had no feeling other than regret.
