Had high hopes for Son of a Gun. Sadly it let me and my family down. Be aware the"lobster roll" is very small, and should be listed as a snack. This is the same for the shrimp toast. Anytime a server warns you that the meal is so small you should order two Our food wasn't impressive, with everyone at our table of six scratching their heads about all the good reviews this place has. FYI - there are no substitutions or even removal of ingredients. There is no kids menu, but they have a "meal" called Baby Animals for kids. This is roughly a cup of the strangest tasting spaghetti you can imagine. No one at our table to figure out the flavor (it wasn't butter as they told us). All we could guess is that it was boiled in pre-used water. We asked the wait staff, since both children wouldn't eat the strange tasting pasta and were simply told it was home made, and they'd make more. After $150 for the table, we left, unsatisfied. Side tip, street parking is tight, there is a $7 valet directly in front of the restaurant.

I really wanted to love this place as I'm a big fan of Shook and Dotolo. But the chicken sandwich had a soggy bun and the other things I ordered had the same same general taste profiles. The first few items with that vinegar tang were great, but after 3 dishes, my palate grew tired. I might have ordered the wrong things. If you want to try it out, you might ask for recommendations. I may try again on a future date.

I went in for their famous fried chicken sandwich. Waitress was very inattentive and not professional and the chicken was cold in the center. Natalie the manager explained why it comes out cold to protect the skin from falling apart in the sandwich. I wasn't buying her explanation and asked her to remake a new one. The new sandwich was delicious and the center of the chicken was hot and juicy the way a fried chicken sandwich should be. All in all, the experience was mediocre compared to their other restaurant Jon & Vinny's

One of my favorite meals I've had in LA! All of the individual ingredients in the fried chicken sandwich were very high quality which makes for an amazing product. The oysters were very fresh and I could have had 10 of them. Service was also very friendly and fast, can't wait to come back again!

One of my favorite places in LA; this gem never disappoints. They have their classics that never leave the menu (fried chicken sandwich), and seasonal items. The staff is friendly, and the decor a bit like a Wes Anderson film (well thought out and quirky). Make sure you have reservations, or show up right when they open (you can always sit at the bar).

Food is just amazing. Service is good. But the portions are "micro", to have a good lunch you need to order 2 entrées.

The food is really good. The plating is not so good, the service is average and it is over priced. I think they are priced high because they are paying so much in rent, my guess only.

I come here for a few dependable meals. Their fish dishes are always good, but it is their fried chicken sandwich that I think is very good. The pickle slaw is always fresh and it pairs wonderfully with the chicken.

    UNLIKELY TO RETURN
Servers were friendly and approachable. Cool decor. That's pretty much about it. The smoked Maui fish dip looked fancy but tasteless. The so-called smoked Maui fish had been shredded into teeny tiny pieces and mixed with some bland white sauce. All it presented was a spoonful of white lumpy sauce topped with thinly sliced cucumbers. Short ribs were tender but the sauce was quite pedestrian.

Amazing food and drinks. The service is really good too. Would come here again. The best Michelads in all of LA. Shrimp tacos are a must have.
