One of my favorite spots in San Diego. A visit to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park always make me smile. Bring comfortable walking shoes as there is a lot of walking to do. But take time to get on the team to get a tour of the African field exhibits where you’ll see rhinos, giraffe and more. There are other tour options that will cost extra. The Photo Safari gets you inside the large field exhibits where giraffe will come up and say hi.

Be prepared for heat in the summer and cool temperatures in the winter. Exhibits are naturalistic and very large with multiple species living together. The elephant herd is enormous but my favorite stop is at Tiger Trails where it’s hard not to see tigers. There is a parking fee. If you live in San Diego or frequent the area you might invest in a yearly membership for unlimited entrance into both the Safari Park and the San Diego Zoo. Keep in mind that the two parks are about a 40 minute drive from each other. They are not on the same property.

I loved the safari park! The new exhibits are amazingly themed. The tiger area was magnificent! Getting to see baby tigers in the morning was really cool. There's lots of walking so bring some comfy shoes. The price of the ticket is a really good value. If you live in the area definitely get a pass!

We absolutely LOVED the Safari Park! By far the coolest zoo I have ever been too. The hot air balloon was amazing. It is a totally different experience to see all the animals together in a environment that more closely represents their natural habitat. All the staff and volunteers were very passionate, helpful, and friendly. I regret not going longer than one day.

If you enter this park expecting it to be like a traditional zoo , you will be sorely disappointed. But if you are more about observing animals interacting in larger enclosures similar to what they would have in the wild , you'll appreciate this place. While this place doesn't have as many animals as the SD Zoo, and fewer bells and whistles , it is significantly less crowded , and best of all, the animals seem so much happier ! I had never seen animals in a zoo do the things like they do at safari parkso much more playful which animal lovers will appreciate. As with any theme park I hate paying ridiculous amounts for parking (privately owned lot supposedly) and food (though you can easily bring your own in . I highly suggest you do) . October is typically free for kids so that's when we like to take advantage of going .:). It gets pretty toasty with limited shade as well so come with sun protection.

LOVE the Safari Park. We live out of state & do not like repeating vacations, however, we have come back 4 times specially for the Safari Park. This is heaven on earth here for us. Instead of going to a zoo where humans have all the space to walk & the animals are in small cagesthe Safari Park has soooo much room for the animals. How peaceful it is to see animals truly happy in their environment here! Yes, food is over priced but compared to any other tourist attraction in this worldit's a drop in the bucket. You can also bring your own food if u want. Plus, knowing that the majority of all their money goes back to care for the animals rather than the bosses in the penthouses (Disney etc)we don't mind personally supporting their efforts. It is a pleasure each & every time we visit (& love the veggie burgers).Thank u to the entire staff who care for the welfare of these living creatures & their future. Our future generations r relying on u to help each species thrive. God bless u! 😁

One of our favorite places in the world. The kids and I all love our trips here. We come at least once or twice a week. So much to see and informative shows and keeper talks. Definitely ride the tram and check out the bird show at 12 or 2.

The actual safari section was too far away to see the animals. We had to pay $120 each to go on the safari to get close to the animals. We did get close to the Giraffes and Rhinos but it was brief and not worth the money we paid. It was the last tour of the day and the staff wanted to go home so they rushed through the safari.. We didn't get close to any of the other animals in the safari section. We were extremely disappointed. It is run more like a money sucking trap than a safari for people to enjoy!!! 👎👎👎👎👎

Great place to hang out especially on the cold and rainy days. 32 oz. Beers $15?! Each. Seems excessive. $99 to zip line on a very short course. $111 to take a trip in the enclosure on a caravan ride and feed the giraffes. Better be rich if you want to have fun. The walks are great through the park and you can get some great photos and the ambassador shows are awesome.

Amazing park! Besides big animals like elephants and rhinos, and smaller creatures like bats and hedgehogs, the landscaping itself is beautiful. We spent 4 hours here and probably could have spent even more if we didn't have other things we wanted to do that day. The only downside is the ridiculously high priced for all the food and drinks, like $6 for a soda. So bring your own water bottle and ask for free refills at any concessions stop.

Excellent day out. It's not cheap and if you take the tours then it's really expensive. 2 adults with basic entry plus the 'Asia' tour cost a whopping $222. Having said that the place is spotless and the animals are very well cared for. Time you have parked for $15 and had some lunch with a visit to the gift shop expect to be $300 poorer. Was it worth it. yes.

The safari experience is probably as good as one can expect in California but they have made it very commercial. The tram safari and cheetah run are the options included in the ticket price but with an additional fee you can skip the line and crowd else you could end up waiting for 2+ hours to do the 25 min tram safari or get a glimpse of the cheetah from the little elbow space amongst the crowd. There are as many other paid options if you want to get close to the animals. Try Safari West if you are near SF - it doesn't have the big cats or elephants but the Jeep Safari is quite comparable and less pricey.

I was here on a busy day. There is only one tram ride included in the admission price and the line for it was nearly 2hrs when I was there. Because of the wait, I did not go on the tram ride and wasn't able to see the main animals of the park. I was not willing to pay $100 per person as an upsell to the other safari tours they do instead. The remaining displays and areas are nice though. Finding food is a challenge.

I will give the San Diego safari park a five star review because this place is beyond awesome! I loved when you went in the truck and you could see the animals. I also liked the cheetahs because they had a show where you could see 2 cheetahs running! You can also pet the cheetah (but you have to be 10). Overall, this place deserves two thumbs up!

Great day out. Did the caravan safari, there were on 6 people on my 11am tour and we got to each feed giraffes and rhinos 3 times! Incredible experience. Staff knowledgeable and friendly.

Rest of park is a ton of fun too (like a zoo). Lions, Cheetahs, Gorillas and Lemurs were my fave. Went on a Saturday in November and wasn't crazy busy.

Will come again, bit pricey for families but goes to a good cause (conservation and breeding of animals!)

Such a fun, unique experience!!! This is not your typical zoo! The enclosures are laid out such that visitors are able to enjoy unobstructed views of the animals (with proper safety measures, of course).

Included in admission is a tram that will take you through the back portion of the park which houses many species all living together in a beautiful, natural setting. If you are in the mood to splurge, there are a variety of other neat safari experiences that are well worth considering! If you are a resident of San Diego county, you can get season passes that are good for both the safari park and the zoo, so if you think you will visit each one during the course of the year, the membership is the way to go!

Also, I highly recommend going "off the beaten path" to areas such as the world garden. Even on really crowded weekends, these areas are quiet and beautiful!
