A local favorite and for good reason. A vast selection of unique books with a knowledgeable and helpful staff.
Once you find your new book head downstairs to the den coffee house and wine bar to grab a drink(I suggest the London fog) and dive into your new read.response / report this review -

This bookstore is amazing. It has a wonderful selection of books in every genre imaginable. The employees are friendly and helpful, and when I want to give a book, or buy one for myself, this is my first stop.

This is the only independently owned bookstore in DC (they just opened 2nd store also in DC.) My family and I love P&P and have been customers for over 15 years through different owners. Great selection of books, literary-related gifts, DC & political themed gifts and wonderful special events scheduled all year long. Customer service varies from outstanding to a bit rude. I still give 5 stars because I love the store so much. We're also big fans of the cafe downstairs, The Den. Excellent coffee, chai and sandwiches. They also serve beer & wine. Very nice people too. Small frequently over-crowded parking lot behind the store. Street meter parking out front and time limit residential street parking as well.

Great space, amazing books and other clever items. The coffee shop is a great place to catch your breath. On any given night there will be one or more amazing author events happening. Every town should have a spot like this!

This bookstore has always been my favorite; I regularly attend signings off-site and in store, and am a frequent shopper and all around bookworm. They were always my stop for the latest signed books I love to collect. Today during their member sale I was treated like anything BUT a valued member like they'd want me to believe. I was treated very rudely by a staff member simply for resting in a chair. Not feeling welcomed any longer I went to sit outside on the benches while my boyfriend finished shopping. When he was done I was then told that the frequent shopper credit I have available wasn't available because I didn't have the little slip of paper with the amount on it. Is this the 21st century? When I asked to cancel my membership I was told to just let it run out and that they could take my name off of the email list. The only redeeming quality was the manager I spoke with who seemed genuinely concerned but I've worked retail before and I know that nothing will be done. The staff member will probably still be rude. Hopefully this was an isolated incident and nobody else gets the treatment I did, especially since I once thought I was a valued member. Shame because they really are the best bookstore in the area

This place has a great selection of books and is nice for browsing around. There is a coffee shop in the basement and they often have authors signing and speaking. Also, they have one of DC's most fun trivia nights!

Top notch bookstore. Well informed and helpful staff. They have a broad variety of books and are happy to order when a title is out of stock. They host authors and experts across all genres. There is also a lovely cafe in the lower level.

Fabulous local store with really incredible staff. They will help you find anything they can, and will hunt down what isn't in stock. They have an entire information department devoted to it. I also can't say enough about their frequent speakers and book signings. Having the cafe in store is very nice too.

The coolest little spot in NW DC to hear interesting talks and meet interesting people. Personally, I'd rather just donate to them rather than buy books cause I'm a millennial and physical books just clutter up my limited shelf-space. All Kindle for me. I'll do so at the end of the year.

This is my favorite bookstore in DC. It really gives back to its community. There's a great membership program and it is worth the cost for the sales and the money you earn back. The employees know everything and are never rude. The store is more than a bookstore, it's also a venue for both brand new author readings to notable famous award-winning authors. The cafe below is great too. Everything that an independent bookstore should be.

Our favorite bookstore in DC Metropolitan area. They carry a great selection of quality books and music (contemporary and classical).
The offer a wide array of discounted books in the basement along with a huge space for children's books. They can even print books out of circulation or your own work.
Their staff is attentive to your needs. There are always on a daily basis authors invited to speak about their work.
The cafe recently redesigned offers a great selection of drinks and food items that change seasonally. The space is a bit cramped. Wish laptops were banned on the weekend like A Baked Joint does.response / report this review -

Such a great store! We came for a teach-in on the Women's March weekend. The store was filled past capacity with people looking to take action on Women's Rights. The store employees were very helpful. A wide variety of books and it's locally owned! I will definitely be back next time I'm visiting DC!
