We just took our 12 week old puppy in because he swallowed something foreign and the staff was incredibly nice. I also really appreciated that the vet consulted with two other vets on our situation. This to me shows great care for our little friend and proves they wanted to do what was best for him. I did remove one star because I later discovered that they charge more than other animal hospitals. Do note that they have all sorts of specialized staff on hand 24/7 which means you pay a premium for their services. This was our mistake for not searching other more affordable options, but in a critical moment we only wanted what was closest to us. If your pet has any specific issues and you want the best care for that issue or you don't mind paying the premium, this is the place for you! Once again, fantastic staff.

Unbelievable service!.These folks really know their business. They are compassionate, professional and very responsive. I cannot thank them enough for their attention to detail and level of service. We took our dog in very close to death with a bleeding ulcer and they gave him an emergency transfusion. He spent the next 3 days in the hospital recovering. The gave us updates every few hours and checked up on him even after his discharge. I highly recommend them for all of your veterinarian needs. Awesome facility!

Our dog jumped off a low bridge today. They were able to get her in quickly. Everyone we spoke with was very nice. They took good care of her, and I think the price was fair. They were good about explaining the exam/testing process and instructions for going home. I was made aware of prices ahead of time. I would definitely come here again if we needed emergency medical care, god forbid.

We had to come to this clinic three times for emergencies with two different cats. They are wonderful and very knowledgeable people. Every time I have called panicky and they have easily put a smile on over the phone to calmed me down. They have shown nothing but kindness to my pets and were very patient when we had to unexpectedly put one of our them down. They let us hold him as long as we wanted until we were ready and let us mourn him as long as we needed in our room privately. With our most recent pet, they diagnosed her issues very quickly (for what they said was an uncommon diagnosis for cats) and gave us very clear directive on how to treat and care for her after her emergency procedure. Even with COVID they developed a very easy to follow process for getting the animals treated while keeping everyone safe. The wait can sometimes be long but emergency is triage and that comes with the territory of that kind of health assistance. We wouldn’t hold that against them with the way have always treated our pets and us. I highly recommend this emergency vet for anything your pets may need.

Incredible communication and Safe practices during these uncertain times. I was kept up to date with an estimated amount and time frame, all of my questions were answered. I feel that our Pup was given the best care possible. I highly recommend using their services. We had an emergency medical procedure for our pet and they were able to quickly and effectively diagnose and treat! Thank you all for working during these uncertain times.

Last night, at 3 a.m., I realized that my pup was losing her battle with cancer. I called OVRS and spoke with a sweet, helpful, very sympathetic young lady. We drove to the clinic and were met by a very compassionate tech. Having my sweet girl put to sleep was one of the hardest things I ever had to do but, the staff made me feel much better about my decision and I felt at peace when I left.

The whole ordeal was handled exceptionally well and I would like to thank the wonderful staff for making such a difficult visit bearable.

Extremely compassionate and caring staff. Saying goodbye to a friend is never easy and they understand what clients are going through. They even sent a well thought out, personalized, hand written letter to my house expressing their condolences. Thank you OVRS for making a tough time just a little bit easier. The caring that you show towards your patients and clients does not go unappreciated.

I had missed two previous appointments due to my own problems. When I made a third appointment, I was asked for my credit card for a deposit, which I didn't blame them for asking for it. I made the appointment this time, and went back with my cat, and then he had a test. The vet was polite, concerned, asking relevant questions, showing a great deal of caring. When checking out, the staff was friendly, courteous, and admiring of my cat. A great experience with great pet care.

Staff was extremely friendly and personable, the vet techs were amazing and we didn’t wait long to see the veterinarian. The veterinarian was very friendly and smart, she explained to us what was happening to our dog and how they would fix it, I appreciated that she explained everything. I can’t say enough good things about this place honestly. AND they sent my mother (who brought our dog in) a text a few days later to see how our pet was doing, they really do care about the animals they see.

Worst experience ever! Waiting over an hour after my dog’s initial exam to get some type of answers. I only got them when I went to leave and just risk things through the night until my regular vet opens. The receptionist called the tech and said she would see me in the room if I went back in. The doctor sent a tech in with the results. If the tech was the one to come in and talk to me I’m not sure why it took over an hour. When she came to talk to me when I was leaving she said the test takes 10-15 minutes before they can get any results to share with me so it would just be a few more minutes. I would speculate this lack of service was because I refused the thousand dollar evaluation and tests. My vet usually asks me to bring in a urine sample so I did the same here only to be told they wouldn’t review it. I had to pay for another draw that was an additional charge of course. If you have a pet with a life and death situation this may be a good place. Otherwise go somewhere else. I will be letting my vet know that they should never consider recommending this place for run of the mill after hours issues.

I am VERY disappointed at the lack of communication and "people" skills from Dr Timothy Becker! Although his staff is wonderful and very caring, Dr Becker is rude and dismissive. I had an appointment for my dog at 10 am, but was told to arrive 15 minutes early so that "things could move along smoothly." This I did, but then I sat in a waiting room for 45 minutes without any communication from anyone at all! Because I was instructed to have my dog not empty her bladder, she proceeded to urinate all over the floor due to the long wait! When I stuck my head out of the room just to inquire about how much longer it might be before she was seen, so that I could make alternate arrangements for another appointment I had with my daughter later that morning if need be, I was met with the mist rude, dismissive, haughty behavior and treatment I have EVER received in my life! I was told "we squeezed you in" regarding my appointment, although I had scheduled this appointment before the 4th of July nearly 2 months earlier, and waited patiently despite a probable cancer diagnosis because that was "as soon as he had time available." After her "appointment" his answers to my questions were dismissive and curt. I guess I didn't realize that when I scheduled an appointment with the veterinarian that I needed to sacrifice my entire day and the availability of professional behavior out the door truly, if you're looking for kindness, compassion, and appropriateness- go someplace else! So after paying $140 to be treated so poorly, I will be taking my dog, my business, and my money to Blue Pearl! People think of their dogs as part of their family, and just because you are smart and intelligent does not give you the right to treat people with such rudeness. I will NEVER be back to this establishment again!

I am so thankful for the people at OVR. Our vet was not open given my dog's injury occurred after hours. I had amazing service from the people on the phone, the front desk, to the doctor Etc. My dog had a closed head injury and they took great care of her and me! Needless to say she is back home recovering and thankfully the bill was less then they quoted. I was very impressed!

Extremely friendly staff! I would recommend to anyone! May have been pricey but I'm sure all vets are, especially 24 hour ones. Took great care of me and my kitty, and helped me so I wouldn't have to pay up all at once. Thanks guys!

I took my dog in for broken metacarpals after having X-rays done at my regular vet's office. The bill for that day exceeded $1,000. I understood ~ it was an emergency visit, she was there for 8 hours, received medication and a cast ~ so I get it. She had a follow up 2 weeks later. The cast did not need to be changed, as it had not slipped and was in great shape. The specialist reviewed all of the information that the ER vet already gave me. She informed me that the next visit will be "a little over $600" for the cast change and X-rays then charged me $125 for that visit! She didn't receive any care, I wasn't given any additional information but it was still $125 because the orthopedic surgeon consulted with me.

I took her to Oakland Animal Hospital in Rochester for a 2nd opinion 2 weeks later. The initial visit was a cast change and a consult, but no x-rays: $68. Today was another cast change, x-rays and a consult: $170. That's a far cry from the quoted "a little over $600" for the same thing. The veterinarian at Oakland Veterinary Referral Services is a board certified orthopedic specialist, so the costs are higher but that seems excessive to me.

** The original review was edited after being contacted by a representative from OVRS. He explained the difference between a board certified specialist and general practitioner, which I appreciated. (The vet at Oakland Animal Hospital is not board certified, he has had additional training in orthopedics, according to their website. ) With this information, I did change my review from a 1 star to a 2 star. I do not wish to bash this company, as I know they help many pets in need. However, in my opinion, the cost was excessive.

In addition to the explanation, I was offered a refund of the $125 consultation fee if I completely removed my review. I declined the offer for ethical reasons.

I never knew that this place was there or how good they are,
I recently took my dog to the vet for a check-up where they dislocated his hip I needed a place to stay here so they can fix his hip I was referred to Oakland veterinary hospital but I'm so glad they referred me to you because he was the greatest hospital I've ever been to they treated my dog Max like he was the only pet on there, Max spent two nights in the hospital. Anytime I call to check on him they were so understanding and make sure to answer calls and letting me know how he's doing and after we brought Max home they would call and check on to see how he's doing.

If anyone is in need of a great hospital for their pets this is the one to go to.

All I can say is thank you for treating Max

Dr. Becker and the Emergency Services team did a superb job taking care of our dog. They showed him the same kind of love he is used to receiving from his family during his week-long stay with them. While he inevitably did not end up making it, we know he received the best care possible and we are so incredibly thankful for that.

Staff was extremely kind and helpful in our emergency situation. Gigantic facility makes you feel as if you're at a human hospital. The price for services was beyond painful, but the patient made it through the emergency safe and sound, so can't complain too much. Would definitely recommend to anyone in need of emergency/after hours pet services

Horrible. I called this place as I was hurting and crying, seeking help for my newborn puppies. The problem was, all of a sudden my dog started to get extremely over protective an hour after giving birth. She started barking and growling like never before, and made me feel extremely unsafe, every time I tried to rescue the puppies from being smothered. Especially one in particular out of the four, who I can see, from a distance, is stuck and has been crying for an hour. Every time I try to rescue the puppies my dog jumps at me while doing a very nasty growl. And it is so scary. So I called to see if this place had experts that could come out and rescue the puppies so that they wouldn't die. When I called, I was literally bashed, condemned, and talked to as if I was incompetent. I was told "you should have known you were having four puppies, I guess your research should've told you that" which had absolutely NOTHING to do with my concern. This lady in particular would never let me finish my sentences, asking me a series of unecessary questions. And I was told "Well I have other patients in the hospital right now and nobody is going to come and get your aggressive dog" if my request couldn't be granted, why be so cruel??! You could've saved your breath and told me that in the beginning. I was simply trying to seek answers for my situation. Situations like this are very nerve wrecking, and scary. And to be treated with such discomfort and condemnation, is just ridiculous. You could've just said "unfortunately, we do not have that type of service" and give advice for the meantime. Please believe these bad reviews. This is not exaggeration. Even if something were to happen to my dogs in the future, I would absolutely NOT bring my dogs to this insensitive place. Associates are the face of any company. There is no reason to be so nasty, no matter the situation.
