This was good home cooking fast. Staff was friendly and efficient. It was set up cafeteria style. We ordered small plates which consisted of 1 meat choice, 2 sides, a choice of roll or cornbread and a beverage. There are also a kids plate and large plate options. When we are in the area, we will definitely dine here again.
First time at Nana’s today, and I️ was excited to try a new soul food restaurant with my grandmother. It was relatively slow for a Sunday in my opinion, with maybe 5/6 other parties in the restaurant. I️ ordered a small dinner meal with catfish and two sides. Considering it’s fish, I️ guess their policy is to cook it per order so that it’s fresh. Very reasonable, I️ had no problem with that. HOWEVER, 20+ minutes later with no other patrons in line ordering food, and even one of their employees kept asking where was my food, I️ decided enough was enough. It definitely doesn’t take over 20 minutes to fry two pieces of fish, max 5-10 mins. I️ went to the register and asked the woman who took my order how long it would be, and her exact response was, “shaking her head and shrugging her shoulders”, as in I️ don’t know. I️ instantly asked for a refund. Two employees apologized for my poor experience, which was nice, however no manager approached me to offer me any other options, or a compensated side or diff protein for my very patient wait. PLUS, a customer who came after me and ordered fish had gotten their food and left. My grandmother was finished with her food by the time I️ even asked for a refund. Funny thing is, I️ was going to order 3 extra meals for family members who couldn’t make it out, but I️ immediately decided against that after my experience. Long story short, I️ won’t be dining here again, and it’s unfortunate because I️ try my hardest to support Black businesses. Don’t order fish if you go here, and don’t expect great customer service!
The BBQ ribs were absolutely amazing. The meat slid right off of the bone. This was one of the only times I ate ribs and didn't have to get my hands dirty. The stuffing, yams, and macoroni & cheese were equally as delicious. One thing I would like to mention is that this is NOT A BUFFET. I don't know why it is described as a buffet on Google but it is more like a cafeteria. You order what you want, and they scoop it onto your plate. But, just because it's not a buffet doesn't mean it isn't one of the best places ever cause it is!
I highly recommend!!!
First time experiencing Nanas soul food kitchen. I did go 20 minutes before they were closing to try the fried chicken. I got a breast, wing and a thigh. Unfortunately the breast was not really fresh and dry. Therefore I can’t give an accurate description of the fried chicken. The batter seem to be really good. Make sure the fried chicken is fresh when you give this place a try. Great staff and excellent service.
We saw this place in Creative Loafing's Best Of Charlotte issue. I got curry chicken with white rice and pasta salad, my man got a fried pork chop with mac and cheese and mashed potatoes and a leg of fried chicken. HOLY SMOKES. It was all amazing. Best meat: fried chicken. Best side: mac and cheese. The banana pudding was also delicious. The employees were so helpful and friendly. When we walked in we were looking at the menu and they came around and said, "Come on around and we'll tell you about it, don't be shy!" This one girl, Phyllis, listed EVERYTHING they have, then they walked us through what we wanted. We'll definitely be going back when we're on that side of town.
Previous visits were great; however, today was moderate, with the food being served warm, & the bread cold. It's so important to ck food periodically w/ a gauge to monitor temp. You have such a loyal customer base, so please don't take them for granted???
The food and service was great. The prices are reasonable and OMG the food was delicious, especially the collard greens!! I think they should've picked a different location and more space for their business. My boyfriend and I will come back soon.
First time visit. i originally was going to eat at anothet place but saw them sitting in the corner. said might as well give them a try. boy am i glad i did. I got the bbq ribs, Mac n cheese and curry chicken rice. this is the best soul food i have had in a long time! Staff was Very friendly welcoming you and telling you a little bit about the place. Good representation of the south. Definitely will be returning!!
Just had an amazing lunch. I saw this place a week ago while running errands. A customer of mine told me how good it was & he was right. The fried chicken was so good & juicy. I was nervous about the stuffing because not every place makes good stuffing but it was very good. We'll be in again for sure.
First time here was a really good experience. A little pricey but you get your monies worth for sure. They have a lot of options! The cabbage and collards are really tasty and the fried chicken was great. everything looked fresh and tasted fresh.
Great service. Very friendly. Was refreshing to see teenagers/young adults who gave good customer service. The deserts was very good. The BBQ sauce on the chicken was very sweet and tasted off. The mac and cheese was not what I expected. A cross between baked and boxed. The cabbage didn't seem to have any salt or flavoring to it. For a Southern soulfood place it was mediocre overall.
Amazing food! I had family in from NJ and they wanted to try some real southern food. Everyone I asked recommended Nana's and it was a great recommendation. The family and I loved it! Will definitely be back to try everything out
Nana's soul food is a very nice place and serves great food. This is why I recommended this place to guests here in Charlotte. With that said we ordered over sixty dollars worth of food to go. Specifically, I ordered Cat Fish. The food was great. However, just like the photo where you show a nice helping of Macaroni and cheese and yams I along with everyone else did not get this. We were shocked at the amount we received in our plates. once we got back to our destination I literally finished my side dishes yams and macaroni in two bites. Total disappointment and rip off. Please tell you staff to stop treating customers like they're on an assembly LINE at work and providing small to very little proportions of food which people pay good money for. This type of behavior will lessen if not unaccepted[table discontinue others to want to patronize your establishment.
I was visiting Charlotte and had dropped in for the first time for lunch. The food was fantastic. The fried catfish was probably the best I have ever had. The service was great. Friendly and welcoming. I had two staff members ask if everything was okay. Where does that happen outside of fine dining. I can't wait to come back to Charlotte and Nana's!
The food here was delicious! Everything was nice, hot, and freshly made. Customer service seemed a little rude from those serving the food, but overall a great food place. Also, they honor military discount which I found wonderful, being that most businesses do not support our military. Thank you for supporting our troops!
