Good hotel. Heat in the room is not the most reliable and the toilet seat won't stay up and the shower is half covered and water comes up. But otherwise it is a cozy hotel with a terrific location

Close to amenities. Definitely in need of refurbishment. We ordered the deluxe room with a view. View was great, deluxe room not so much. Would have considered this as a standard room. Staff and bell men were helpful. Bed was old and needed replacement. Furniture was damaged and in need of replacement. Cordless phone was straight out of the 80's. Only spent time sleeping here. Wouldn't have wanted to spend anymore time there. Lobby smelt like old stale cigarettes. Price was right at the time of booking but comparing to other hotels in the area I should have made alternate arrangements. Don't be deceived by the flashy website promoting the hotel. The deluxe room looks nothing like the advertised room. The only saving grace was the nice soaker tub and shower which were really nice and the only reason I gave this hotel 2 stars. I believe their advertising is very deceptive. Use caution.

I don’t really know where to start from

1. The rooms were tiny . They have managed to put a bed a table and a chair in a very small room and there is literally no walking space
2. In PRICELINE , they said they provide free BREAKFAST . But when we reached there , they said there is absolutely no food service in the hotel.
3. They don’t even have water or a coffee maker in ther rooms.
4. Bathrooms are tiny tiny . So tiny that only very slim people can walk in comfortably .
5. Oh about the Air conditioner. Absolutely non sense . It makes noise every 30 minutes and it is very loud that we woke up every time we heard that sound . We lost our sleep all three days.
6. Worst thing - the sheets and the blanket had so many stains . I’d give them a zero rating if I could but I’m gonna stop with this.

Only plus point is their location. Nothing else

It's an old building, so it's going to have a few quirks.

The bathroom looked like it was recently remodeled, but the room was a little bare bones. No comforter on the bed, but clean sheets and a soft blanket. Appliances like the phone and hairdryer were a little dated, but functional. Working standard flat screen TV. The AC was a little loud, so I cranked it up for a couple hours and then turned it off before I went to bed. The door to my room shook a little in its frame, but the locks were secure. The windows didn't totally block the sound coming from Madison Ave, but I'm a light sleeper.

The location is absolutely amazing. Walking distance to Bryant Park, the Empire State Building, 30 Rock, and Grand Central.

Service was friendly. They let me check in an hour early and gave me a room with a view of the Empire State Building! If you want to be in the middle of Manhattan and just need a place to sleep, this is an awesome option.

This hotel has a great location 8 min walk to times square, 3 min walk to the empire state building, 20-25 min walk to central park. That literally is the only plus of this hotel. The customer service was horrible. House keeping came to my door EVERY morning at 8am, and when they see I was in my room. They would say they would come back. They refused to keep more than 1 set of fresh towels in the room. I had 2 people in the room. I literally had to call every day to ask for another set. They wouldn't even bring a face towel, they would bring a hand towel instead. House keeping left my room open one day, I came in at 3am to find that my door had been open since whenever they serviced the room. The shower/ tub did not have a curtain nor did it have a door. So we had to use towels to step on and collect the water when we showered. House keeping did a horrible job with cleaning the room, I suspect this is why they didn't want us in there when they cleaned the room. The hotel is very outdated. There's no microwave/ refrigerator in the room. The free wifi moves extremely slow. Location is the only great thing about this hotel.

If your looking for upscale accommodations this is not your place. This is a hotel with rooms to sleep in and shower and change. It's in a fantastic spot! Easy to get anywhere in mid town, by a short walk. The staff is very friendly. The housekeeping was very good, they kept my room neat. The front desk i didn't use but they were very helpful to people and took their time explaining things. The rooms are not perfect and some are outdated and run down. My room was from the 80's but my bathroom was fairly modern and European ( shower is only half enclosed). I have no complaints, I found the diner across the street very good as well and many others very nearby. You can walk to times square and Bryant park, the empire state building is right around the corner, as is Grand Central.

Great for the price. Nice location and very clean interior. It is an old building, but the bathroom was fully updated, the bed was nice, and the a/c worked beautifully. Only complaint was we were told that we eould have a room with a view, which we did not. Out our window was the center of the building (walls and windows). Would stay here again.

Don't pick this hotel. It is in RUINS and even their nice staff will tell you the place needs a renovation. The hotel is in terrible state, and it is not what you would expect of an NH. Because of that 'supposedly coming soon renovation', the hotel is not offering any services. Rooms are outdated and they are not fixing things that break. In my room the curtains had been removed and never replaced, leaving the visible rails that show that at some point there were curtains. The carpet has stains. Elevators are scary old.

The location of the hotel is good, but only stay here if you are ok with a 'one star' hotel, because this is what this is at the moment.

NH, you have disappointed here.

Terrible. First, we get there and they couldnt find our reservation. And told us hotel was closing so they couldn't help us. We had to get mad and showed them the confirmation email of the reservation, and that was the only way the front desk agent decided to give us a room. Staff was not friendly at all! Room was not clean because the bedsheets had makeup and the coffee pot was dirty. Will never waste my money there again. .

I just spent three nights here and loved it. Upon arrival I was given a free upgrade to a Deluxe room which was brilliant! The staff are friendly, the bed was comfy and the bath was so big I could swim in it! Lol of course there was some wear and tear, but that's to be expected and definitely didn't take away from the overall appeal of the room. The hotel is within walking distance of everything with a great Starbucks just around the corner. Will I stay with this hotel again? Definitely. Do I have any downers? No. I definitely recommend this place!

Oh, one last thing. Instead of getting a Taxi back to JFK the hotel gave me their Limo! I'm definitely coming back to this place! XD

Perfect location! They let us check in 9 am no charge and because we had a very long stay they upgraded us. Spacious room with a perfect king size bed and minibar. Great staff and quick elevators. We could not ask for more!

This is a wonderful hotel in a great location just a short walk from Grand Central Station. The literary themed rooms have a collection of books so perfect for the book lover. It's easy to get around midtown from the hotel and not far from Times Square too. The concierge made a great recommendation for a local bar which was very appreciated. Some lovely touches include complimentary pastries throughout the day and wine and cheese in the evening in the Reading Room. Overall, would thoroughly recommended a stay at the Library Hotel!
