Very dirty. Felt like we were at a motel that rented rooms by the hour. Laid down on the bed and slept for a couple hours. We were very sleepy. Also didn't feel very secure. Didn't use the shower because it was too dirty. The floor was laminate and would look nice if they would scrub them. Wore our shoes even when we were sleeping.
Room 203: The sink faucet was not working as in no water. Had to get water from shower to brush teeth, etc. Strand of hair on toilet bowl. Crumbs on bed before either of us could even sit on it. There were vacant rooms at ground floor facing road/alongside main office but receptionist initially insisted on rooms facing back wall which had a creepy enough pathway and no sight of car from there. We entered her first choice (rooms facing back wall) but after inspecting it, I insisted, in turn, for a second floor or any room facing front of motel/main street. Not worth $49/night at all.
Easy on and off the highway for travelers. Clean room, reasonable rates, accommodating staff. Easy access to food and fuel nearby (although I was disappointed the brewpub wasn't open the day I stayed--but you guys can't control that).
Staff was wonderful--very helpful. Without them commenting on their situation, I got the impression they are used to performing miracles to keep the place going. They were using a backup credit card reader because the "good" one wasn't working. Our room had a power strip and a refrigerator that didn't work. They referred both repairs to the maintenance man, who was just arriving as I checked out.
Now for the bad news. I suspect the owners are unwilling or unable to spend the money needed to run a nice motel. The building is overdue for a facelift. Textured paint has chipped away from the interior of the elevator door. The balcony railing shows major rust stains bleeding through the stucco/paint. The wall of that same second floor balcony has ugly splashes of an unidentified brown substance (coffee? mud? bodily fluids?) that greet the weary traveler who enters the second floor balcony from the hallway.
My room was as clean as a daily cleaning could get it, but the bathtub needed a new non-slip surface. It was so gray and worn, I spent as little time in the shower as possible, even though the water was hot and the water pressure was great. The floor was as clean as a quick damp mopping could get it, but I could see that staffing is never robust enough to allow for a good scrubbing. The mattress was OK and the bedding was clean, but the bedspread had a hole in it. The card that contains information about laundry was ancient--creased and worn. The ice bucket had cracks in the bottom, and no plastic liner was supplied. I was glad I hadn't brought back dinner leftovers to put in the nonworking fridge, since I wouldn't have been able to keep ice easily, either.
A bright spot was the location, which was excellent. Restaurants, a gas station, and a Family Dollar were all within easy walking distance. It's just a few miles from WV state government offices, where I had business to take care of.
This motel belongs to a chain that I recognize for clean, quiet, well-maintained, budget priced properties. As an allergy sufferer, I love the hard floors and lack of other dust-catching, mold-growing surfaces. I stay at Motel 6 whenever I can. Next time, however, I would try the Cross Lanes Motel 6. That dingy, dumpy room was just too depressing.
The front staff girl was amazing. She was so helpful and sweet. The Location was great. Easily accessible to food and stores. Now the room I was more than disappointed. After driving 10 hours and working in the cold rain all day we just wanted to take hot showers and sleep. The room had no towels so we had to go ask for towels. The floor had cereal thrown all over it I'm assuming from a child guest. The tub had hair from someone shaving all in the bottom of it. No soap. No nothing. After we finally get showered (had to walk to family dollar to get soaps and such) we pulled the covers back to go to bed the blankets and linens had not been changed. The bed wasn't even taunt. Looked like someone had been sitting on it after it was made up. The sheets had crumbs, food and stains on them from the previous guest where the cleaning staff just made the bed back without ever changing out. We had to go ask for sheets and pillow cases so we could change them ourselves. The room stayed a nice temperature, the bed wasn't too bad but your cleaning staff is HORRIBLE. the price was nice at 46$ but room was disgusting and very outdated. Looked like a 1960 19 inch box tv. Didn't even try to turn it on cuz there was no remote.
The room and bed we're clean and comfortable. The vanity was new and roomy. However, the toilet area was in sad shape. The baseboards were falling off and looked like severe water damage around the walls. This wasn't new damage so the cleaning staff should have reported it to be fixed. The parking lot could use better lighting.
This was a horrible stay. The fire alarms didn't even work. I could go on but I already spoke to corporate and had two calls. So we moved to the Cross Lanes WV motel 6 which they are great. Melissa at desk had already spoke with both corporate and was great help. So terrible stay but made up by the calls. So will continue to stay with motel 6 but never at this particular location. I will never recommend this location but will continue to stay at other locations
I've stayed here 3 nights in a row separate reservations. The first night and 3rd night were acceptable but the second room we got had no toilet paper I had to go but wipes. There were dirty towels in the room like overall made me not want to come back but y'all accept cash and that's all I travel with. My suggestion fire the management retrain the housekeepers and upgrade the TV's. Also we only got 1 wash cloth and two big towels. No hand towels are all. The bedspreads were stained and had holes. You all have potential just step it up.
One Towel (it may have been used!) No chair but a straight-back one at a very small desk. How do two people sit down to food or a card game? A lounge chair would be nice if one wants to read or stitch. No frig or micro-wave. How does one heat or store leftovers? Two pillows for a king-size bed! Need at least four! (even 5). I like the pet-policy free but paying extra would be worth having clean towels and a chair to sit in.!.
I enjoyed my stay at Motel 6. The room was clean and inexpensive. Wish there was a refrigerator but I made do with the ice bucket. My only complaint is that at 3am somebody knocked on my door. Then again someone else knocked around 4:30am. Other than that it was fine. Thank you for leaving the light on
I was placed in a room that smelled like dirty bleach water and was dreary at best. I went to the office and GM apologized & explained that they were renovating rooms and that one hadn't been renovated. He moved us to a renovated room that was also a handicapped room. It was bigger which was nice but had double beds instead of queen size beds and we both are over 6 feet tall so they were short for us. There were no towels so I went to the office and the GM apologized again and said they expected a delivery but it didn't arrive and they had to wash towels and then I got some. Area is not the best at night & police arrested people down from our door. The next day no one cleaned our room, made the beds or emptied the trash cans but they did come in and get the used towels but didn't leave any clean ones so I had to go get towels myself again from the office. I realize I wasn't in a 5 star hotel but I do expect the basics, clean towels and linen in the room, room at least swept and trash emptied and beds made. There was also a turkey pot pie in the box frozen to the freezer shelf from who knows how long ago. The GM and the front desk staff were polite and apologetic but I still had to do a lot of things I felt were the responsibility of housekeeping. I did point out to a maintenance man that the bar across the bottom of our door had come loose and the towel holder on the wall was loose at the top. I bring my own soap and shampoo and it's a good thing because there wasn't any in the bathroom.
Motel 6 is a good basic motel for a quick stop on a long trip. They fill an important niche in the service industry. I have noticed that several of the Motel 6's (maybe all?) have stopped supplying shampoo (and one actually now sells it for $2.75 for a small bottle from a vending machine near the lobby). This is a poor way to save money and gives me a negative feeling about staying at your hotels in the future. Whats next? Will Tom Bodett stop leaving the light on because I'll have to bring my own light bulbs?
I don't often stay overnight anywhere. Once a year is my average. And for the money I spent, the room wasn't bad. I wasn't expecting frills and benefits. However, I was expecting a clean room.
While at first glance, it appeared neat and tidy, andclean, when i really started looking, it needed a lot of help. I have a habit (bad, i guess) of taking my shoes off, once I get inside, especially if I lay on a bed. When I went to take my socks off, they were black from walking on the floor. The coverlets were dirty, though the sheets and pillow were clean.
I did check for bedbugs, and found nothing.
In the morning, as I was leaving, i realized there was a great big hand print in black dirt on the bottom of the door. Immediately, every horror movie I ever watched flashed through my head!
The house keeping staff really needs to clean the floors, the chairs, and send the coverlets out for a thorough cleaning.
The clerk that served us was nice, courteous, and helpful. It was clean in and around Lobby area. The cost of the room was very reasonable and they accepted my small dog at no additional cost. Our room was clean and well cared for and had plenty of towels and clean linens on the beds. Check out was at noon so you didn't have to be in a big rush to get up and out. The staff was pleasant and friendly at checkout. Would stay here again.
Great location with lots of restaurant choices very near by. Good parking. My handicapped room was exceptionally clean. Bed was very comfortable with great pillows, a good mattress, and a plain, clean bedspread (no pattern to hide who knows what). Good water pressure in shower with plenty of hot water. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. One small issue was the somewhat sticky wax flooringnot a biggie as I, personally, prefer wood flooring as opposed to carpeting.. All in all, a very pleasant and comfortable experience for a lot less money. Would definitely stay here again.
