Nice atmosphere but the food needed a little more flavor.

Friendly knowledgeable and efficient waitstaff. Both great food and wine that's worth the price.Probably the best tapas in the city. We had the tasting menu for both of us with wine included. The only problem was that the large paella pan was too much. So we had only a small portion of it and took the rest home and it was great re-heated the next day. Still we split a desert with coffee. 250 with taxes and a good tip for 2.

Stayed at the hotel and wandered down for some dinner. OMG, it was awesome and memorable. Bacon wrapped dates, octopus, a flatbread thing. Seriously it was perfect. Sit in the attached bar, less people, same great food.

This place is outstanding! Our server, Jenn, was very accommodating. The Verde salad, scallops, and Ribeye were delicious. Highly recommend!:

Good stuff. The main restaurant was under some form of construction when we stopped, so it was just the basement bar open. But the food selection was still really good. Service was quick, which was great, because we were on our way to a movie.

Absolutely phenomenal. You simply must order the bacon wrapped dates and the octopus. Trust your waiter and the wine selection is terrific. Great service great location. Ask for a seat by the window.

A good Spanish restaurant in an interesting space. Wouldn't go there for brunch which was average. Try it a dinner

1st, it's located in a historic like hotel. Renaissance Blackstone on Michigan ave. I made the mistake of entering on the lower level and I thoughtis th is it? The bartender was kind enough to let me know the main dining was upstairs main area. Went up the spiral stair aside the front of bar. Going upstairs was a whole different view. Needless to say Dante, our waiter, was the main reason for the enjoyable evening. He was well versed on the entire menu and the whole Catalonia experienxe. He even spoke some as well. He explained everything in detail. We tried so many things, and actually lingered on the Mesa a la Mercat charcuterie and cheese boards. Wow, they were so good. Then afterwards, so many things cane out including the gambas, which were so juicy. It was a smorgasbord of flavors and textures. I would be remiss if I did not mention the host. I don't know his name but he came back a few times to check on us. What a great guy and he is a connoisseur of Bourbons!!! Almost the last people to exit, Dante had us try the Catalonia dessert. We thought we were so full, but in the end, nothing was left of the dessert! What a great experience dining at Mercat!

Had the taster menu option. Most dishes were vegetables or cheese. But great beef dish.

I am from the Catalunya region in Spain and I can tell you 99% of the food served here is and tastes like at home amazing. Great price compared to other Chicago restaurants. But the food is even better.
