Used books and movies, what more to say? I will say this new location is easy in and out compared to their old location. The line moves very quickly. I am impressed by the setup of merchandise. One thing I don't like is the movies on the shelves down low, I have bad ones so I'm missing out on what might be on the lower shelves
Great place to take used books. They give you cash or a generous credit. Would have given 5 stars but there is so much merchandise it is hard to find what you are looking for. A bit overwhelming. It would be helpful to have a self serve terminal where customers could look up books, audio, video etc. Similar to what the Library uses. That way you could find what you need without spending hours looking. Overall a great place to shop for media. written and electronic. Free parking. Give it a try!
Looking for a certain book, movie, CD, audio book, video game? McKay may just have it and more!
My wife and I love to read which makes McKay a dangerous place especially for our already full bookshelves at home!
They are a used book, video, games and accessories, etc store. You can bring your items and they will give you in-store credit or cash.
The quality of their items are usually in good condition and the prices I feel are fair. The aisles are pretty wide and accessible to handicapped although the shelves are pretty high so it may be difficult to get to some of the upper shelves however the staff are helpful and most of the patrons are helpful too. Probably from the shared love of books ;)
The aisles are broken into genre and then author. There are signs in the end of every shelf showing where all the genres are.
Whether you are visiting or a long time resident in the area I highly recommend stopping by McKay but make sure you set some time aside! You may find yourself stuck looking for all of your favorite authors and/or movies!
McKay's is an excellent place to find anything entertainment related for a great price. From books to DVDs to toys, they've got it all. Plus, you can sell your old or unused items to them. I was a big fan of the store in Knoxville and this location is just as good. They've got a huge inventory with a pretty quick turnover, so you can usually find whatever your looking for. They come highly recommended from me!
Love going here every chance i get, but let's face it. It's getting easier just to get a book on my phone and saves time. 10 times easier on the Amazon kindle app and cheaper. Don't get me wrong.( I love books)!, but soon to become a thing of the past.
I want to be perfectly honest: I work here! But as an employee, I will tell you that McKay's treats their employees very very well. You can tell so much about a place by how they treat their employees! And it filters down. I loved McKay as a customer and I love it as an employee. That aside, where else can you buy a book for 5 cents? McKay's has almost EVERYTHING you can think of: board games, video games, electronics of all kinds, musical instruments, music cds, records (even cassettes!), DVDs, you name it McKay's probably has it! It is a fun, fabulous place to treasure hunt or Christmas shop (everyone loves McKay's gift certificates). Buy, sell or trade....McKay's is a warehouse of bargains and a fun place to come and browse. Stop in and say "Hi" to me and I will show you where the bargain books are located!
When you go hear its pretty much what ya see is what ya get. There is no customer service. But I do like the store and it continues to be one of my favorite places to save money on books an electronics..
I recommend checking them out if you havent already..
Too easy to lose yourself in here. Shopping and discovery is fun. Employees aren't very friendly, but you don't deal with them unless you are checking out or selling your music or books to them (I haven't done this part).
I do love this store. It's always a treat to go there.
This place is great! I've been to both the one in Knoxville and Chattanooga and both are the two best used book stores I've been too. The staff is out and about ready to help you if you have a question. When I trade books in the amount of store credit you get is great and very reasonable. You generally get about half the amount they offer you if you want cash. It generally takes between 15minutes to an hour on trading things in just because the shear volume of people and orders that go through, so he prepared to be there a while. But overall 5 stars.
Since I only live maybe ten minutes away, McKay's is like a second home to me. I probably go two or three days a week just to browse and see what's new. I usually gain store credit back by trading in what I have previously bought from there. Recently, I've gotten attached to the multitudes of beanie babies they sell. My bookshelf is packed with novels and textbooks from McKay's. I buy my ds games from there too. All in all, it's always fun to visit because you never know what you might find that day.
Reading these reviews is sad. McKay has owned Chattanooga for so long that many people don't know any better. When I am occasionally there now (my child wants to go sometimes), the book prices vary between not that good and awful. Also, getting help is never going to happen. The few times I have ever gotten someone's attention on the floor, they were zero help. And I stopped trying to sell/trade anything with them well over a decade ago due to not being an idiotic sucker. My opinion, this store sucks tremendously for a variety of reasons. But again, they are the used place in Chattanooga. Our loss.
Great place for what it is. You can find a lot to read, watch and listen to. The staff is out amongst the customers willing to help and they are very knowledgeable about the merchandise. They were slow in processing the books we turned in for credit but it was busy so we just kept looking around for more stuff to buy.
You want records? Go here. You want books? Go here. You want movies? Go here. You want Legos? Go here. You want video games? Go here. You see the pattern?
This is a staple place for us when we need new entertainment. The books they sell are typically in good to very good condition and the prices are fair. The video games are typically a little pricey however. I'm glad they employee cool and hip people that like to help. It's always busy in there, so be ready for the crowds.
