Nice spot. Had two excellent beers: a nitro cherry porter and a Belgian brown ale. Needless to sale I disagree with other reviews that claim the beer is nothing special. It is!
There's a reason most breweries in town are sitting at 4.2 and above and LAB sits at 3.7. The former make good to great beers. The beer at LAB is awful. The food is good, but every time I've been (at least five times, so you can't say I haven't tried) the staff act like I'm imposing on them. Bad beer, bad vibes. I don't get how they're still in business. The Southern next door has terrible staff as well. Most places in Asheville are manned by people who brighten your day. Not at these joints. I think there is something evil buried underneath that corner of Lexington and Walnut.
I loved that there were no bright lights in LAB. It was nice to relax in a dim lit atmosphere with great food and beer. I would recommend the nachos! They were to die for! So many amazing flavors. We will definitely be back on our next visit.
Worst bar-hopping experience, ever on 11/11/2017.
My party and I ordered drinks at the bar upon arriving, the bartender told us we could order drinks at the table, but said we could sit after ordering. Cool.
So, we order our drinks, close the tab, then sit at one of the high tables in the back near the stage because no other parties were there. The server - with dyed red hair and wide-rimmed glasses, came over and very rudely explained that this was her section and we could not sit there while ordering drinks at the bar. I tell her we've already closed the tab, didn't know this was table service area because no one was there anyway, and we will order through her, instead, henceforth. Fine. She leaves and doesn't ask if we need anything - water, menus, refills, etc.
Another person joins us and orders at the bar, unaware that our server is already pissed at us for ordering at the bar and then sitting in her section, but doesn't close his tab. Red Hair comes back immediately (ironic, since she was in no rush to ensure we were cozy at any point until then) to loudly exclaims that SOMEONE didn't close their tab but that it, "IS BEING TRANSFERRED TO ME SINCE THIS IS MY SECTION." OK? Then what's the problem? Because it sounds like the bartender solved the issue already. We've already apologized for being ignorant about the section assignments, what do you want us to do?
She barges in on our conversation twice more to hurriedly ask if we need anything, I order one more beer on my friend's tab so we can pay this ghastly lady something for very obviously inconveniencing her; I leave her a $15 tip on a $6 tab and write her note saying, "You were very rude. I hope you have a better night than what you have shown us."
I have never been so embarrassed taking people out in Asheville before. Just choose literally any other brewery before you go here.
Beer was good. The burger looked better than it tasted. Fries were a little soggy, but tasty. Nice atmosphere.
Food, service and beer is amazing. I found a lot of over priced establishments in Asheville. This is the best value for money.
I would like to rate The LAB higher because it has a nice atmosphere, good beer selection and craft drinks. However, we were treated so rudely by both of the female bartenders. They were both very short with us and couldn't be bothered to smile. I would be understanding if they were slammed, but one of them stood and talked to her friends that were sitting next to us for quite some time. I hate giving bad reviews. But I just can't deal with being treated like I am bothering someone that I am expected to tip. Take some pride in your job and be friendly and helpful. I wanted to eat but couldn't get their attention again after getting a drink.
The food was excellent. I would not recommend this establishment. At the end of the meal, 8 of our 9 party members decided to leave for a quick dessert at another downtown establishment & leave our elderly handicap aunt who was using a roll-a-tor to sit at one of two tables since the temperature was dropping. We were polite & asked the management after we paid. Management refused & my aunt had to leave. Very disappointing that this establishment decided to refuse to assist an elderly woman. It was a Saturday evening, however there were no patrons waiting for tables & there were empty tables in the restaurant.
This place doesn't support designated drivers. We planned a bachelor party and paid for nephew to join us the entire night and drive us around Asheville, as not every place is in walking distance. They wouldn't allow him in because he was 20 years old, despite clearly staying and showing he was our designated driver. We cancelled our first round of orders and went to Barley's and the place was way better!
Tasty and affordable in-house draft beers. Hummus was really good. BBQ sandwich and fries were great. Service was friendly and timely, despite being busy. Nice, large patio for people-watching.
Delicious food. Chill atmosphere. Not a beer drinker, so can't comment on the brewery itself. Lamb stew was phenomenal.
This place sucks. Their service is awful. We had someone who walked away from the table when we were going to order and then she forgot our food for over 30 minutes. We asked for the manager and she WAS the manager. She was rude and sucked. Then my other friend ordered a beer once he got here later and the guy at the bar told him to wait for a waitress. Who never came. All he wanted was one beer. Could've gotten the beer and cashed out faster. Maybe work on your hospitality and service first. Neve coming back. Huge disappointment.
We needed a space for 6 grownups and 6 kids that would be a yummy authentic brewery experience for adults and a carefree space not too quiet place for kids. For our needs, it was perfect! Thanks for helping this travelling band of friends and family share a great afternoon together. Lovely staff, too!
Phenomenal staff and killer food!! Nachos are something I now dream about. Highly recommend. Their atmosphere and beer just seem like a huge bonus. Absolutely love!!! 5 stars for sure!!!
My husband works for a brewery in Charlotte so we knew we wanted to take advantage of the Asheville brewery scene for at least part of our wedding weekend. Having our rehearsal dinner and welcome party in a private room at the LAB was the perfect way to do so. Rachel was fantastic to work with and made everything really easy and wonderful. She helped us with everything from picking out the menu to monitoring the bar tab that night and made sure that there were no surprises and that everything went perfectly. Our guests really enjoyed the beers and were really impressed that a brewery had such fantastic food. Everyone had a blast and we were really proud of our choice. Thanks for making us look good LAB!
