Literally my first review, only because after booking 2 night stay from hotel's website, when we arrived we got a small single queen bed room clearly too small for a family of 3. This could have been a disaster of a vacation and then miraculously things turned around only because they have the best service. Resh Daswani, at the front desk was not only emphatic but went above and beyond to make our stay awesome. She personally showed us other alternative rooms, found us a one that suited us and treaed us like family. Simply unheard of! Thank you for having such caring and amazing employees, I'm coming back again and highly recommend this dig for it's location, beautiful grounds, best breakfast in town and above all excellent service.

Best place in Carmel thanks to Resh!!!. Drove from San Francisco to Carmel unplanned for our anniversary, Resh got us a beautiful room on the top floor with ocean views, on the second day we were transfer to one of the casitas with a private pool. Everyday we were given a bottle of champagne and chocolate/cupacakes.. No doubt I will be back here.

Five stars would not highly rate the staff enough! It was our 1st anniversary and we had no particular plans. We left San Francisco and stumbled upon this hotel in Carmel. One of the staff members, Resh was particularly lovely. She made it a point of making our unplanned stay one we will likely repeat fo future anniversaries! Although they were almost fully booked she worked with us, asking first of all, "what are you looking for?". When I said, "umm, I don't know . a fire place " she offered a room with ocean view the first night and a casita next to the pool with a fire place the night of our anniversary. She then price matched the rooms AND has champagne and cupcakes waiting fo us in our room when we got back from town. The breakfast is amazing. The bar staff are fantastic and Efram made sure every detail was taken care of around the property. There was a wedding going on in the gorgeous gardens so we sat in our lovely room and followed along with the couple's vows. The pool is awesome. The Sangria in the afternoon and cookies at night are fabulous! Couldn't have been better!!! We'll be back and if you haven't stayed here yet, give yourself and your loved one a gift. Well worth it!!!

Great, historic hotel minutes from downtown Carmel and the beach. The staff are very efficient and friendly, food and drinks are good. They also have umbrellas, bicycles and flashlights to borrow, you may need one or all three depending on the time of year.

The location is amazing, less than 10 minute walk to the beautiful Carmel Beach! Rooms have good furniture and beds are comfortable! Great hotel breakfast, lots of options including champagne! Hard to find uber and lyft, ask concierge to call taxi. Ask ahead of time and taxi will be ready at the specified time! You can hear the waves at night when it is extremely quiet. Walls were thinner than expected! I prefer not hearing neighbors on a vacation.

Warm and inviting. The ocean view rooms are perfect for taking in the sun setting beyond the Pacific. A nice champagne brunch buffet makes the inclusive resort fee worth it. Just be careful booking through a third party--they might try stick you in a closet size room with a view of the street. Also, the parking lot is currently (12/4/17) under construction.

Great location for both downtown and the beach. Rooms were well decorated and comfortable. Staff was always helpful and the shuttle to restaurants, especially during the winter, was great

Decent hotel, but what makes it special is hearing the waves throughout the night.

Beautiful place with nice atmosphere. At the check-in we got a sangria, later there was a wine reception. The room was very nice. The hotel has a fantastic garden and pool. Don't miss the breakfast, especially not the coffee . I took a second one to go.

Had an ocean view room -- the view was fantastic but the room was TINY. Service was great -- everyone very friendly. And the breakfast was nice.

We stayed here for a romantic Valentine's Day trip and it was the perfect experience for us. The hotel was built in the early 1900's and it's history is part of the experience with old photographs of Carmel lining all the hallways. The hotel is in a great location - just a couple of blocks from the beach and from Carmel-by-the-Sea shopping area/restaurants. We could hear the waves from our room at night! The bed was super comfy, the staff was all really nice, the breakfast was AMAZING, the robes were super luxurious.I just can't say enough great things.

We arrived in Carmel and headed to the hotel we booked online. Sadly it was abysmal so we left. We drove around and liked the look and feel of La Playa so we inquired and decided to stay. We had a poolside room which was very spacious. Sure the building is older but the decor, cleanliness and nostalgic ambiance more than make up for it. It's the perfect combination of casual, elegant and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The grounds are so beautiful and tranquiland we were there during a rain storm in January! I can't wait to come back when the weather is better. The breakfasts and bar food are outstanding. La Playa has so much charm and character and the energy is very nice. It was my husbands first time in Carmel and he fell in love. It's very much like a California version of our seaside village near Vancouver, B.C. Our 3 nights here was just a tease so we will be back soon and will most definitely stay at La Playa again! Thanks so much.

Found this gem. Enjoyed refreshments and appetizers from the bar at the covered patio by the fireplace. The rain was not an issue and the view of the garden and pool is fabulous. We all decided this would be worth a stay. Perfectly located outside the busy streets but near enough. This is a hundred year old hotel, so there's history and old works charm. Just breathtaking. Fun stop our of the rain.
