I've been riding at La Fleur with my daughter for about a year now and can easily say it has been a very positive experience. After a couple of lessons watching her ride around I decided "well, I'm not doing much, I might as well get on one of those things too". We started by attempting to satisfy my daughter's (who was barely 4 at the time) pony infatuation with the "pony experience" and a year on here we are. I will say that over the course of our time there I do have some observations that may be helpful.

Give it some time. Our first time there seemed a little disjointed. Including the scheduling which over the phone seemed a bit curt but after some time you'll get to know the owner and find she is really good people. It's largely a matter of getting familiar with the flow in a horse barn, where and how things happen and so on but the staff are really nice, patient and helpful with all of this. So are the regulars :)

It may be different than what you expect. My expectations to begin were a bit like "OK, I'm going to drive this horse around and, well, I can drive a go-kart how much different can it be to drive a horse". I get now why people get so attached to their horses. They are perceptive and will get to know you specifically. Including if you're a pushover which means they are just going to do what they want which I found was a great lesson for my daughter because its a gateway into her personal development and assertiveness (some proud Dad moments there).

The experience, itself, is a living thing. If you are doing a bouncy house birthday or taking your kiddos to the trampoline park you get your ticket, you go through the motions, your time elapses and you go home. I think our experience at La Fleur has been a lot more. You are an active participant with your partner (the horse) and you both decide together how the session goes. Its much more rewarding. If you take time to learn and put effort in, the sky is the limit.

Don't take it so serious. If you are doing a one time event, its an introduction to the horse world and I would say to just enjoy your time, pet some pony's and soak it in. If you want to go on to ride Don't take it so serious. The skill will come, the fear will fade and I think you will find yourself slightly addicted and a bit happier overall.

    Hope it helps,
    Paul

La Fleur is a wonderful place to truly take a break from the world of distractions, work and responsibilities. As a middle age, former trail-ride-only rider, Neva (Trainer) has taught me the art of riding. Neva trains it all from the very novice adult to the experienced teenager who has been riding for years. I have found riding to be a great stress reliever and excellent workout. The stables are beautiful and impeccably maintained. I love the opportunity to spend quality time with the horses, beyond just riding them. Riders can groom horses, muck stalls (if desired), clean tack and take horses out for grass as a special treat. The barn is a great environment for families and kids.

The whole family had a great time. The facility was beautiful, the horses were well trained, and (Nina) the instructor was very kind and patient.

La Fluer stables is a home away from home. You enter in awe of the beautiful facility, see these gorgeous American Saddlebreds, and want to become a part of everything immediately. The La Fluer family takes pride in their animals as well as their relationships with customers they have gained over the years. Neva La Fluer is the instructor of their Madison Riding Academy and always gives you something to work on when it comes to riding saddleseat properly. You very quickly get involved in the environment of the horses and make friendships with the other people.. something to look forward to every time you come. The lesson horses are well trained and very sweet. No matter if it's the first time or the 100th time on a horse, you are always learning something new. The therapy and exercise you get when you ride is worth so much and that's not including the pleasure of getting to spend time with horses. It's an all around wonderful experience, something that you don't see at just any stable, but you can be sure you will find it at La Fluer Stables.

I purchase two horse and pony experiences on living social. It was supposed to be 2 hours and only lasted an hour and a half. Not to mention they were giving lessons at the same time to other people all in the same area. The owner whom I was supposed to present the vouchers to dissappeared in the middle of it. As soon as the lessons started the rest of us were basically ignored and left to fend for ourselves. Don't waste your money even if its a good deal.
