This is a beautiful place filled with people who absolutely ADORE what they do! The set the standard for courtesy.
Beautiful house. Cant wait to see it all finished after the restoration!
Honetly not what I thought it was going to be
It's not open to the public but you can ghost hunt there if you know the right people.
It is a wonderful old building/home. It could use more TLC, but the staff does the best they can. (I'm sure they have limited funding). You can stand on the second floor balcony and close your eyes, to imagine the history. I don't remember any fee, or cost to see the home, so by all means stop by. A donation can be made.
If you're going to have free time while in Jackson county, you'll want to do in here. The staff are really friendly and there are so many free brochures and maps!
The Jackson county School district and school board disgraces this town! With the bad reputation Marianna already has due to the 'Florida Boys home" having being in this area, and a place where torture and death of young boys had been reported, the schools presently have one of the highest beatings (corporal punishment) of human beings (particularly boys) in the entire state of Florida. Violence is apparently the sickening culture of Jackson county. It is truly amazing that places like this still exist in 21st century America!
I love the Jackson County Chamber. We have a very strong membership rooted in Jackson County and Jackson County heritage as exhibited by the care and restoration of the historic Russ House. As a board member over the past few years I am happy to say that there is a very strong Board of Directors this year and they have the great privilege of beginning anew in 2013 renewed vision and focus, leadership, and possibly a new location. The best of luck you guys!
