Great location in a quiet residential neighborhood. Self-serve breakfast included with a wide variety to choose from. Plenty of books/magazines in the
sitting room. We always feel at home
when we stay here.
When I was looking for a place to stay, this place was advertising for $5/night. This was a total typo on their part and they still ended up honoring the rate. I stayed for two nights and it was clean and peaceful. It does kind of feel like your grandma's home. I would stay again.
Irving House is a converted multi-family home, updated (for the most part) to modern standards. Four floors of rooms plus a tea lounge in the basement. Breakfast is complimentary and comprehensive, with local jams and cheeses, fresh pastries, and more. Air conditioning is present, but fixed for the building; fans are available, and opening a window is viable when the weather is nice outside. No elevator (at least that we found), so remark when booking if mobility is a concern. Wifi is present and complimentary, but a bit weak toward the top floors. Television appears to be basic cable. Room was clean and fresh when we arrived. Bed was comfortable, linens and pillows were ample. Books for leisure reading are available in rooms and throughout the building, like a small home library. Small patio outside for enjoying the neighborhood, as well as an adjoining reading room. Staff are friendly and helpful, and cleaning service is prompt daily. Neighborhood is quiet, and is close to restaurants, Harvard campus, and public transit. Good for visits to campus, and to Cambridge and Boston in general.
Great little bed and breakfast. Very cozy and cute. Rooms were nice and breakfast was great. The only downside was the cramped bathroom.
I came to the Irving House completely by accident, and now I'm devastated to be leaving. This is a wonderfully busy little place, perfectly tucked away from the largess of Harvard, while teeming with its own helpful and quirky staff.
Room 314 and its access to the fire escape offers the best bird's eye view of residential Cambridge, and its tidy bathroom and unused but perfect spare Murphy bed quickly became the spot that I wanted to stay in the most. This is an ideal inn, and I'm so happy to have lucked into it.
Lovely home and people. A good place to relax. Home cooked food, fantastic coffee, great conversation. Well priced too. I shared a bathroom for a week and found it not at all a problem (there are enough bathrooms around!) A big plus: they are totally invested in running a sustainable home.
Friendly, efficient, knowledgeable staff. Very good breakfast. 24 hour desk. I checked in at two AM, with no problems. The bathrooms were across the hallway but, even though there were lots of rooms occupied, I never had to wait. The location is in the heart of the Harvard complex, less than 5 minutes walk from Harvard square. As expected, my single room was small, but it was scrupulously clean and very comfortable. It even had a small desk. I don't think they had air-conditioning, which could have been a problem later in the summer, but I enjoyed my stay and will return again.
Last minute booking as there were no hotels left downtown. What a treat. Okay, it's shared bathrooms and the room I was in was small. But it was adorable. If you like charm and old time coziness, this is for you. Staff was super pleasant and location was terrific. Wonderful to walk around lovely Cambridge from the Irving House. Breakfast was pretty awesome with vegetarian choices as well. Tarts, eggs, toast , cereal, fruit, yogurt, granola, tea and coffee. Better than I expected. I'd stay here over a chain hotel any day.
A colleague booked this in error for a business trip. With single beds and shared bathrooms, it didn't really suit my purpose for staying. With that said, it is a really cute/nice B&B, so if that's what you're looking for, you should stay here. Location for Harvard was also amazing
Quaint B&b in Havard Squard. Parking was a bit tough and no ac. However, with the windows opem it was nice. Breakfast was very good and staff were very nice. Priced right at about half of what most hotels in the area wanted per night.
Located in a quiet and lovely neighborhood within easy walking distance of the Harvard Square T, it was tthe perfect locale for a comfortable and cozy overnight stay. The young front desk staff was professional, cordial, friendly and helpful, and I felt welcome as a guest. The room was clean and had everything I needed for my stay. The evening was quiet, the bed comfortable, although the room was a bit warm. A cracked window balanced that out, and the street noise was minimal and not disturbing in any way. The breakfast was plentiful with many options that included fresh fruit, dried fruit for the yogurt,, fresh fruit juices - orange, grapefuit and apple - as well as a nice assortment of teas and coffees, muffins, croissant, bread for toast, quiche tartlets, scrambled eggs and more. It was, frankly, much more than I had expected, and it was very good. I will have several occasions for the next three years to be in Cambridge, and I will be returning to the Irving House each time. I highly recommend it.
Well located homely place very close to Harvard. Quite neighbourhood, clean tidy rooms get a score. Though breakfast comes within the package, the owner is considerate enough to keep the kitchen open all day and even leave some fruits and cakes throughout the day. I reached quite late and that was a saviour. Rooms stocked with books tells that people out their cares for its boarders.
