Hotel was lovely but substantially less haunted than I was hoping for. I was led to believe that I'd be interacting with ghosts and engaging in merry, movie-like banter with the undead. Although I thought it was weird that I kept running into the same guest over and over again. He was wearing period garb from what looked like the early 1900's and kept getting in my way while I was walking the stairwell, asking distraught if I'd seen his wife. I was like "Look buddy, you keep asking the same question and I keep answering the same way. I don't know your wife and never did." Some people these days, I tell ya.
Went for dinner one time.. Excellent. Went for brunch. Very nice. It's a set menu and the coffee is not with free refills, which is the one thing that sucked. The coffee was done of the best of every had, however.
Upscale but very friendly. Rooms are a step back in time to a gentler era. Restaurants have good food! Walk to everything! We spent a fabulous weekend getaway there!
I love this place, yes its pricey but its beautiful and just gives you a great feel. Wifi available, works best in lobby, dining available. Our room was unusually small though, stayed there with friends and their room was standard but at first i thought ours was a joke of some sort, it was nicely furnished but you could watch TV from the shower if you really wanted to. I love it here though and they serve apple cider in the lobby too. Awesome in October
This was a beautiful and comfortable hotel. The staff was great! The dining areas and bathrooms are fantastic. My only complaint is that the toilet area is to small for my shoulders.
Jules at the hotel bar makes the most delectable drinks. His bubbly energy made me and my girlfriends stay wayyyyy longer than we planned to. I recommend stopping here for Jules' spiked iced coffee-add it to the menu
The conference rooms are ample for any function. The restaurants were clean and quiet. The front desk people were helpful and friendly. The downstair room hosts many events including murder mystery dinners.
It is close to everything in Salem. You can walk almost everywhere. They have two restaurants and the food was amazing. The hotel staff was very helpful and nice. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, the rooms are decorated with beautiful antique furniture. It was very clean. The prices was very reasonable. I highly recommend this place.
This hotel is an old classical style establishment which is nearing 100 years old.
The room was small but spotlessly clean; towels and sheets were nice and fresh. Bathroom has been modernized in the past and is well maintained.
Apart from one hostess who seemed a bit absent, all other interactions with hotel staff were great and we found the service excellent in general Although the hotel is old there is a young and dedicated team to support it.
I had a slight issue with breakfast in that the breads and cereals are laid out buffet style right when you walk in to the dining area, so it appeared to be a complimentary accompanyment to the hot breakfast from the menu. Turns out that was extra which was explained to me after I was already eating it. It was also $4.50!! The server was really nice about it and looked after us well the whole time.
Good hotel and would highly recommend it to those who love that old fashioned classic style.
The formal dining room is beautiful as is the atmosphere for breakfast and dinner. However, don't expect to have a private serious meeting with whomever you are dining since the intrusions will be many. You will continually be asked if you need more water even if you are in the middle of a conversation, the same with coffee. You will be interrupted and asked how your meal is, again, even if you are in the middle of conversation. So, the atmosphere is wonderful the food is well prepared but don't expect privacy.
The Hawthorne is quaint. The rooms are small and cramped. The rules you have to agree to seem a bit much. Among them absolutely no noise whatsoever after midnight and no outside alcohol in the hotel (even in the rooms), on threat of eviction. There are two elevators, which seems insufficient for a hotel catering to events such as weddings, but the stairs are easy enough to find and at 6 stories tall, they are useable. The rooms are clean though, and the staff is friendly.
The staff put us in the guest house which was a block away from the actual hotel. The rooms themselves are quite fun. The shower is its own room. Like you open the door and there is a curtain. Staff was very friendly. It's a shame breakfast was not included, but our stay was wonderful. Location was perfect for all of Salem too.
I had a great stay at a great location. Everything you want to go is a short walk away. The rooms are clean and comfortable even though the building is quite old. I would stay there again.
My husband and I loved our stay at the Hawthorne. The staff were very accommodating and friendly, the room was very clean with exceptional linen. If we go back to Salem in the future we will be staying at the Hawthrone hotel again and will highly recommend this hotel. You will not be disappointed!
