You usually have a wait before being seated but the food is always worth it. A very unique menu and always delicious. Unique surroundings in this little restaurant. If you are very tall, be prepared to duck down.
The attitude walking in the door was lacking. Wait outside, the greeter barked. The tattooed bartender acted like he was doing me a favour when after fifteen minutes he finally got around to taking our bar order. We were all joking about his lackadaisical treatment while waiting to be seated.
Ordered mac and cheese balls, they were served cold, but the pork belly slider and tacos and half rack of ribs stood up. Again our request for a second round of beer got lost in the shuffle.
Sadly, Hammerheads has changed. There is no sense of urgency among those who served us, it was more like they were deliberately complacant. Found every thing lacking, a sorry way to spend $100.00++.
We have eaten here many times, enjoyed great food and amazing service.until now.
Disappointed Canadians
It took several minutes to find the host to get on the waiting list, but the long wait was worth it. The food was outstanding as always. We started out with the deep fried mac and cheese balls. I had the smoked baby backs which are the meatiest ribs Ive ever had. The house sauce which is not bbq is incredible. My date had the elk burger that she loved. We had food to take home because the portions were so big.
Not worth the wait!!! Good was good, but not great. Cool atmosphere though.. Great beer selection!
Creative dishes prepared well, with a dash of style. Located under a house on a small street we weren’t sure what to expect. The place was jammed on a Wednesday night, a good sign, but the did find room for us. It’s tightly packed with tables, a little stuffy, and loud but in a good way. A neighborly way.
We had crab cake sandwich on pretzel roll, smoked mac&cheese, salad, fries, and a juicy serving of lamb ribs, shared all around. Well, I didn’t share the crab cake, but otherwise our group was well mannered. Good draft beers had the room buzzing with conversation and we felt no rush to “turn the table.”
Our waitress was a champ and the kitchen on-game. I’m discovering Louisville has an abundance of restaurant talent, or maybe it’s just the dearth of decent eateries at home in DFW.
Food amazing but hostess made us feel like we were putting her out None of the staff looked happy..
The place was packed so they they should have been happy about Job security! Did find a great bar just down the street :)
Soft crab sandwich is to die for. Being originally from Maryland and having a taste for crabs - especially soft shells, it was true for a long time that the de-facto standard for a soft crab sandwich was Phillip's Seafood in the Inner Harbor of Baltimore, MD. No more - Hammerheads is the place to go. The sandwich was a substantial bun topped with lettuce, tomato, and a mild seafood sauce which complemented the crab, not overpowering it like Chesapeake Bay Seafood Seasoning can. My wife had the crab cake sandwich which was also quite delicious with large lumps of crab meat also with a complementing mild sauce (different than the soft shell sandwich) While the restaurant is small and we sat at the bar, it takes nothing away from the food and atmosphere. The wait staff is very friendly and watch the ballet of people moving behind the bar was a show in itself. This will be a regular visit for us and it should be for you too!
I debated between 2 and 3 stars. At the end of the day, the food and the service are the most important things to me.
Food: Everything we are was good. and the pork belly was amazing. We also had chicken and waffles, tacos, deep fried Mac and cheese, a burger, and maybe on more thing. 3.5 stars for food
Service: Its obviously a pretty solid local spot because the wait time was ridiculous. And what do you do when you uber to the closest local spot that has good reviews?! We couldn't just leave so we waited. And waited. Then we were sat at our table and got to wait some more. Then they were out of baby back ribs.
By the time everything arrived I was so hungry it wouldn't have mattered what they fed me. But, like I said, the food was good.
And the waiter was nice. 2.5 stars for service
Had no idea this place existed. A vendor took me to dinner here after Thurby. The atmosphere is nothing to write home about. There's usually a wait, but you can buddy up to the stray Kitty hanging around the street corner while you wait and hope it's not raining. The smoked lamb ribs are freaking amazing. The smoked baby backs are great.
This is my go-to spot to introduce out of town guests (coworkers, mostly) to Louisville cuisine. It's food is fantastic (same owners as Game) and the beer is cheap. The real treat of Hammerhead's is their appetizers. Do not skip the apps. The savory meats and contrasting and delightful flavor profiles will make you fall in love with this hole in the wall. It's off the beaten path which gives it even more charm. Hit this place up on a weeknight as you will be waiting during for a while on a Friday or Saturday night.
The flavor combinations were really good. I wouldn't get the soft shell crab again, because it was almost all breading and soft shell and very little meat. I would definitely go back and try the ribs and burgers. Make sure you are there at 5pm, otherwise you will wait outside until a table is available. Not a big deal if it's warm outside.
My new favorite place in Louisville. I have never done a review but Hammerheads motivated me. Incredible food, service and super chill place. I would put their ribs up against anyone in the city or anywhere else. The mushrooms, fries, pulled pork were all awesome. My girlfriend is very picky and even she loved everything. I couldn't recommend this place more. Not a negative thing to say. You can't go wrong at this place.
Total hole in the wall place.Best BBQ in town, ribs and brisket are amazing. Has that dive atmosphere hidden away in a neighborhood and totally worth it. The duck tacos are also amazing. Come early or your in for a long wait. No loud music so easy to converse with people and the staff is always very chill. Its not your upscale joint but the food definitely is.
