Known for mussels but the gastropub serves great food and specials. Brussel sprouts are delicious

A dive bar accurately describes this place if you like a neighborhood, cozy, dark place to grab a drink or a steamy mussel pot this is your place on H Street.

I hate that I am ranking this a 1 Star went to Granville Moore’s for the first time for date night with my boyfriend. We are always in search for great mussels after having an awesome experience with mussels in Maine. I looked up places to try in the DC area and of course Granville Moore’s came up — so we made reservations for date night.
The food was delicious, the beer was awesome with an amazing selection to choose from. We ordered the gnocchi Mac & cheese to start and shared two mussel bowls. Both were very flavorful and amazing. As date night winded down — my boyfriend was signing the check when the LARGEST COCKROACH I’ve ever seen came scurrying down where table met the wall and made a beeline for me. Me not a fan of bugs in general and definitely not in a restaurant setting — yelped out and jumped out of our booth. My boyfriend just wanting to bring attention to it to the waiter — alerted him. The waiter just batted it off the table onto the floor near my boyfriends feet. On our way out I alerted the hostess —more so that if she sat people there she was aware. She immediately asked if “they took care of us” upstairs and that the owner was in the kitchen. My telling them wasn’t so that we could get comped really just and FYI. I’m sad to say that this was our first and last time we will eat there. Even sadder as the mussels were so freaking good but makes me wonder where else those cockroaches have crawled around. Food and beer are really good. "Mid renovation" decor is ok. But the urine / ammonia smell by the restrooms and up the stairs is very off-putting.

This place is totally over-rated. Management apparently changed. The waiters/waitresses don't recognize you - even you have been there like three-four times a week. [OK. I am from Belgium and I moved to H-Street DC just three weeks ago - back from Afghanistan and Nepal - but so this was my frequency over the past three weeks.] I am old and bald, but I still get asked for an ID to check my age when I order a Belgian beer. I mean: I am an old Belgian, right? You should recognize one when you see one ! Just awful ! And then when you order moules-frites, you just get a handful of moules and over-cooked and over-salted frites (the kitchen doesn't know you should just dip fries twice in the oil to give that golden color - instead, they just keep it in). Well. In short, for a Belgian, it's just a disaster. I will just walk over to the Mexican place across the street and have great food and booze from another cultural zone for a fraction of the price. So In short, don't go for the great Belgian/French/European moules-frites experience at Granville Moore's. There must be other places. Maybe I should start one. JL

Oh my! Second visit finally reviewing. The bar staff are fab - discussed what I was drinking, what I thought of it, then - unsolicited- made a great rec for my next one. Good brunch, even better mussels. The atmosphere is wonderful.

Had brunch there. Service was unhappy, depressed but efficient. Food was generally salty and below average. Shrimp was a bit overcooked. Grits were too buttery. Poached eggs were overdone and not runny. Coffee was watered down and expensive. Vegetarian sausage was too salty, over toasted and dry. Avocado was sprayed on the bun and hard to find. Fries were good, similar to five guy's fries. Did not have the burger or the muscles. Generally unclean. Water was dripping from ceiling onto dining table. Place was super cold and uncomfortable. The prices were high for quality provided. Plenty other better places to spend your money at.

The mussels..dear sweet lord .the mussels at this place are incredible. Classic and Marinara are great takes on the usual recipe. But GM takes it to another level with the Bleu and Thai offering. Get the wings and gnocchi and bring an appetite.
I'd also agree with the reviews about beer prices, its a little steep, but you're paying for the quality and selection. And the service staff made great recommendations.response / report this review -

Was my first time since moving to H Street NE last year and it was ok. Got there when it opened, ate at the bar, had beer, wings, cauliflower, and split the brisket steak and cheese with fries and Thai mussels. Everything was really tasty, the stake and cheese was the only disappointment, seemed like very little meat and cheese on a huge roll, but was still tasty. Not cheap but not super expensive and was disappointed there were no HH specials but I'd definitely go back.

Mussels and fries are great. Too expensive. And the service was spotty. Also not very many gluten free options: only one type of mussels.
