Good coffee. Reasonable prices. Their food is fairly good as well. Gets busy during the day. We had a 15 minute wait for seating for 5 people.

I was recommended to coke here by a good friend and I am so glad i made the trip! Excels in grate cafe fare, expertly prepared! The Pan Seared Scallops was amazing! The scallops were perfectly cooked, the garnish was a welcome accoutrement and their take on the risotto was delicious! The book store itself is a warm and kind of whimsy place where you don't feel the animosity of other larger bookstores because of what you may be perusing. Many grab a spot on the floor for a quiet read or retire to the Afterwords for a bite. I will definitely be back here again!

Wrong place for coffee.
This is second glass after I asked to re do it. First one had no foam whatsoever (Thanks to another server to give it a try to make it up to my taste; but it wasn’t any better). Look at this “latte”. It, as I was told, has two shots of espresso. Okay, two shots is good. Look now for the amount of milk, AND, the foam: creamy? Nope. It is drip coffee with milk for the price of a latte.
Upon finishing my drink there were coffee grinds on the bottom. When leaving I looked at the espresso machine and the steamer had dried out milk on it. No one cleans? No one knows how to steam milk?
Absolutely (!!!) disappointed. Thought this place was on a high end in everything.

Our experience was great but you were out of 3 things we requested, which is why I didn't give it 5 stars. However, the server went above and beyond trying to accommodate for what was missing so we did end up having a very pleasant experience. Also, your salted caramel vanilla cake was worth going back for.

The food was pretty good, minus the bones my friend found on her chicken pot pie. The staff was really busy and we're still very attentive and kept a good pace. The bar area and the bathrooms could use some attention, as both needed some deep cleaning. I wanted to like this place more, but it feels a little tired.

I've been to this place sporadically for years. The service was good but I recently had a seriously bad experience. My credit card was mismatched with another persons card in which I didn't find out until the following day. When I called the cafe and asked for the manager, the hostesses had me on hold for an extended amount of time. I hung up and called back and told her this was a financial matter, she didn't seem to grasp the gravity of the situation and just said she was unable to find the cafe manager. I had to call the bookstore manager to get a straight answer about the cafe manager's lack of availability and when he would be available on the following day. Today is the following day, I didn't receive a call yet, I called the cafe and no one is picking up. I am NOT happy.

Passed by and saw a book store so I decided to look inside. To my surprise they have a cafe/bar in the back and modern selection of books. Quiet yet hipster atmosphere. Will definitely bring someone on an intellectual date here.

Good food, generous helpings, friendly and speedy staff and service. Came for breakfast; appreciated that there's three seating areas (one nearer the kitchen and the bookshop, a main area, and alfresco) so you can pick what suits your mood.

Coffee ain't pretty (none of that latte art stuff) but tastes good and packs a real punch.

Plus: bookshop after you're done!

Kramer is a sentimental place for me having taken my wife there on one of our first dates seven years ago. We just went back there after having moved into the area, and we weren't too thrilled with it.

First of all, the menu prices are quite frankly insane. We stuck with dessert because we didn't want to spend 25-30 dollars an entree to sit in what is essentially just a bookstore cafe.

The desserts we had were good, and the service was good, but wow the decor is not quite as we remember it. The place hasn't changed a bit, and that really isn't a good thing. With brick/cafeteria style floors and cheap cafeteria style tables inside and out, it was just a really underwhelming atmosphere to hang out in for dinner.

The bookstore area was cool because well, it's a bookstore and we don't go into those that often. But for that, I'm not really sure what makes it all that different from a regular bookstore except that most bookstores have closed by now.

Thankfully, one of the few late night places that open in DC for when you are hungry after bar hopping unless you crave donuts but that's a whole other story. The restaurant on the back end of the bookstore serves a variety of food, salads and even dessert if you desire it. Food wise is decent. It's nothing to write home about but at 2am and hungry it sure does taste good. Service is friendly and food usually comes out pretty quickly. If anything it is just a place to sit and chill have something to eat before heading homeward.

Went for drinks and to eventually eat. Was told we could not be seated because we didn't want to order food right then and the "waiters didn't like having tables that didn't order food." I would understand this if they were busy but they were not it was 2:20 in the afternoon plenty of empty tables we planed on having a few beers then ordering food I do not think that is unreasonable. The lady Host/server said she could take my name and we could wait for 30 min for a table because we didn't want to eat right then but if we wanted to eat right now we would be seated right away. The group in front of told the host/server they wanted to just drink and they got seated. I do not quite understand the logic. I am pretty sure the money is in the booze more so then food. went down the street and spent $400 bucks. Will Not Go Back To Kramerbooks And Afterwords Cafe.

Had lunch at the Cafe, I had the chicken arugula salad and my son had the crab cake pasta Both were excellent and we had a hard time choosing from many delicious sounding options. The wait staff was very friendly, professional and prompt, I would highly recommend a stop her for a bite and to browse and buy books from a local business.

There was a good looking bookstore up front (where you came in from the street) You walked up to a counter that was tiny,plain and an area with plain dark black decor. When you were called your walked into a very Large,Open and Inviting glass walled and ceiling. Cut to the food, Great Selection and the combination of tastes and delights was Surprisingly Fabulous.

Love the cafe and book store idea. I ordered a hot scotch which is hot chocolate with butterscotch liquor. It was wonderful.

We also ordered dessert as well. The chocolate cake is like a solid chunk of chocolate, if looking for sweet then go for it but it was hard to get past. I ordered bread pudding and i was more than disappointed. It was not served warm which made it terrible (I've never been served bread pudding cold before). It also had much cinnamon that i couldn't taste anything else. The peach cobbler had peaches that were way too sugary. Would not recommend the desserts.

This bookstore and cafe combo is one of the best ideas ever. You can attend a book event or just peruse the shelves and then walk to the other side and have a snack and a cocktail. Also, the creole style mussels were amazing. I was so close to asking for more bread so I could slop up more of the deliciously spicy broth. So good!
