Clean welcoming. I am enjoying my visit there.
Great place for teenagers to stay occupied during the summer. Nice pool, basketball etc
I needed to find a place to take my daughter to for one week, that is all. I have heard of the YMCA, I decided to give it a shot.
The staff is friendly. The facility seems clean, however, I am disappointed and they have a major lack of communication.
I had submitted some basic information online to be contacted on a Wednesday, and I was contacted the next day. Tony, the director of this location called me. He was friendly, and gave me an over view of what was offered there, I let him know I would be in later that day to get her signed up. He let me know I would need to fill out some paper work, which I expected.
When I got to this facility that evening, the staff seemed helpful but wasn't really listening to my needs. I explained to them what I was enrolling my daughter for, they gave me paperwork, I filled it out while i was there, and learned that I needed to provide vaccine records, not a big deal but wish Tony had expressed that on the phone to me. Once I finished the paperwork and handed it to the staff they then realized that I was enrolling for a different program and had to fill out a different packet.
After I got the correct paperwork signed, the fee was correct, but there was a fee no one explained to me until payment, which was for a T-Shirt to be worn on field trips, again, just wish Tony had told me about this on the phone.
After all was signed up, I asked what days her field trips were, so I could make sure to have her in the shirt. They told me I would get all the details her first Monday. Great.
Monday came. Got her to YMCA, signed in and in the morning room. Then I get all the papers for the week of the activities each day and what was needed to bring, wish they gave me to these 3 days earlier when I had enrolled her, because she needed a swimming suit, water and towel on the day I dropped her off. I had to go home to get these items and bring them back, making me over 30 minutes late to work.
Tuesday comes. Check the list before going to the Y, and she has all that is needed, so I thought. We get there, and find out that she could have gotten snacks at the field trip but it required cash for the day. I did not have cash on me, and was not able to run and get cash before work to get to my daughter. Again, not informed of something she needed, and was not on their information sheet for the week.
I haven't finished out the week, but i really hope everyday doesn't go like this. And I really hope that my daughters care is better than the lack of communication being given to me.
I am extremely disappointed in the YMCA. I signed my kids up for swimming lessons for the summer. The swimming instructors are hardly ever on time. There is only a 40 minute opening for the lessons and many times the instructors are 10 to 15 minutes late. They don't even continue at the end to make up for the loss of time. On top of that the kids are "learning how to swim" in 2 feet of water. They just play around and walk along the bottom of the pool and the instructors dont incurage otherwise.
On an other issue I decided that the lessons are just a waste of money, and decided to put my kids into private lessons. Being a low income house hold I was informed by a few different employees that we could use the scholarship for private swimming lessons. When I went to sign my kids up all of a sudden I am only then being told that the scholarship can't go towards the private lessons.
The YMCA does not communicate with their employees. They have no professionalism, or disaplin among there employees. They all have a bad attitude, and treat there guests horable, and are extremely rude.
Don't waste your time or your money!
My family and I signed up for their membership! we love going here and enjoying the work out or the pool. I signed my son up for the Jr. Suns basketball league. He is very excited and happy.
This YMCA shot and gunned down my entire family and ate their brains and sold their flip flops
Excellent Place for Kids to have fun and learn. Their staff is really friendly and they make a positive impact on all the children that play sports there. I have three kids. All have been in different sports and they learned a lot from each coach and they enjoy the staff their as well. The one person that complained about the mishandling of her child, I have seen nothing like that at all and my three kids, in different areas at times have nothing but great things to say about the staff they come in contact with. Thank you Glendale/ Peoria YMCA for your contribution to our community and my family!
Daughter played basketball here and loved it!! Staff is super friendly as well :)
The basketball gym schedule is always messed up and thats the only reason I go
this Y was the worst place I have yet to go too. Absolutely the worst place for children or any family. The fitness center is boring (no music, couple of TVs of the news) other than that it was alright. The classes they offer are horrible. It's basically for the senior citizens. the children centers they offer were extremely restricted and they close at 11 all the way through 5. then we go to the pool and after 20 minutes they kicked us out, said a swim club needed the pool. AND me personally had to get out immediately because "my shirt was cotton". then we go to the gym and their are 30 middle aged men so children obviously can't play there, so I take them to the other half of the gym where it's filled with toys and many children their age, when they kick us out AGAIN. they drag my daughter out with her arms and threw the ball out of her hands. so I then go to the office and ask them if all the children centers are closed and the pool and gym are basically VIP only, where are my kids supposed to go?? they didn't say a word. AND you're membership is forced for at least 2 months. OVER ALL: if you are not a senior citizen & you don't feel like paying an EXTRA 30$ a month per child for a club (that's over 90$ so far) GO TO RIO VISTA or the GLENDALE RECREATION CENTER. this place is ghetto and disgusting. I gave them my notice after the first day. it's a scam. (also be careful going into the locker rooms, there's more senior citizens there than anything and they all shower there EWWWW)
