The one star goes to the kind and knowledgeable lady working the field who helped me locate the Erythrina I was looking for when I first visited this nursery. The check-out and delivery staff lacked overall competence and customer service skills. Worse, the delivery guys did not handle the trees with care and damaged 3 trees in the process. When contacted, the delivery manager, Michael, was unapologetic and offered the canned excuse that the trees were healthy when loaded for delivery. He obviously did not listen to me explain that the delivery guys were the ones who caused the damage. Overall, customer service was poor to nonexistent. The support staff either need to be replaced or undergo intensive training in customer service.

Love this place. They've got a great selection of all your standard landscaping plants plus a great selection of trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals that are all suited to the San Diego climate. (In ten years of buying plants from Evergreen I've only had two new-to-me species fail.) They're have a great seasonal selection too, roses, fruit trees, blooming annuals, and they run a good Christmas tree lot too.
For retail customers, 95% of the time you're retail cost will be less than what some other nurseries charge wholesale. If you're a new commercial customer their discount rates are beyond fair and scale up more quickly than some other big lot wholesale nurseries (you won't have to spend 10 grand before the discounts start to kick in) and their prices are on par with the big wholesale growers in east county.
They also have a great selection landscape materials and amendments. Their bag prices are quite fair, but their bulk products are exceptional quality and a really fair price. They've usually got three or four coarse mulches in stock (dyed and natural), topsoil, potting mixes, and amendment.
There's a good selection of drought tolerant plants too. I just recently I've noticed they've expanded their selection of succulents in 5 gallon pots. You could pretty much do a full water-wise installation from scratch, with just the inventory they have on hand. Admittedly their selection of CA natives is a bit limited, but what they do carry is generally the stuff that most people don't kill: Baccharis, coast/bush sunflower, a few Salvia and Artemesia, etc.
And, no, I don't work for Evergreen, but without Evergreen it would have taken my business a bit longer to get off it's feet.response / report this review -

Worst service! Bought there two big plants to our house , after two months insects came out of the plants ( each plant was on different location inside), I came back to the store and they basically ignored us and sent us home. Will never buy there! Worst place!

The worst customer service I've ever experienced!
We had to take out 4 ficus trees on the side of our house because they were damaging our foundation. Our house is 30 years old and we didn't plant them. We just have to fix the problem.
I would like to plant something there place but not sure what would be best. I would really like not to repeat the same mistake that someone else made by planting a root aggressive tree to close to the house.
I've done a little research online about trees but would like to talk to a professional. I walked up to the cashier booth. Told them I'm looking for 3-4 large trees, 24 or 36 inch boxes but have lots of questions. Is there someone I could talk to? The girl handed me a map and said it's better if you drive around. Me ok but drive around where? Her it's 60 acres. Drive around the lot. Me. ok but I have questions. Her it's best if you google them then come back when you know what you want. Seriously!!!
Btw I did drive around and looked at prices. The size of trees I want start at $500 and go up. For $1500.00 you'd think someone could spend 10 minutes talking to me!response / report this review -

Great prices, but MOST of the native grasses were mislabeled!!! As a local professional Botanist this is very upsetting. When I tried to speak with someone about it, she rudely shrugged me off.

Biggest selection available in the area, so a great place to go for re-doing landscaping. Not much support or advice available, so do your homework online ahead of time. Would be nice if they gave a plant guarantee like Home Depot, but since they are cheaper its worth the risk.
