The hotel was clean but dated. We had a room on the backside of the hotel and I would definitely recommend that because there's a busy street in the front. The hotel was perfectly located for us to leave our car parked all weekend and walk everywhere we wanted to go. The beds and pillows were comfy enough for a few days. The TV buzzed loudly when we turned it on but since we didn't have much free time it wasn't a big deal. The breakfast spread was pretty normal with waffles, bagels, cereal, & yogurt. They had microwavable breakfast sandwiches but we didn't find those until we already had bagels in the toaster. My husband and I both thought the coffee was terrible. We would stay here again.

Downtown Inn is a great spot for the value. The location is prime, we didn't have to drive anywhere downtown. The cost is fabulous for the location. They are pet friendly which is stellar to be able to travel with a pet. Think about the value proposition, you are getting what you pay for. The hotel is not brand new, there will be outdated items. But the bed is comfy (when you are in Asheville, that is pretty much all you need is somewhere to sleep), the staff is friendly, and there is free breakfast. Parking is the only pain point, but they have overflow parking and they are downtown so most downtown places don't even have parking, so I was grateful. We will definitely be staying again.

The beds are clean and the location is great. Also pet friendly. The parking lot is tiny and spots fill up fast, but there is overflow parking. Not many places to walk a pet to use the bathroom nearby. Overall a little run down and could definitely use an overall make over and renovation.

I use to love the Downtown Inn. No frills, convenient and affordable. I drove in last night and checked in after a long day of hiking. $150.00 for one night. Bathroom tiles covered in mold. Ceiling tiles loose and moldy. Stains on bed sheets. Had to park two blocks away. I won't be staying here again. For 150.00 a night, they need to update the place, big time.

An average room very reasonably priced for the location. Clean and very friendly and efficient staff. Centrally located to the breweries in downtown. Would stay again. I would give the room (which is just a basic room) a 2.5 star. The value of the room considering the location is a 4 star.

I stayed in an upper level room. The views was great. The room was cozy. It was a little cold for the swimming pool, but still nice. The indoor elevator was a bit rickety bit the outdoor elevator was fine. Nice breakfast service.

The hotel was clean and the breakfast was good. The road noise was pretty loud and parking was a little hard to come by. The front desk asked us to come back to the hotel (when we were out) to move our car so a car show group could park all together. Then we had to wait for another car to move so we could back out of our spot. It was a little annoying that we had to move our car and waste part of our trip. We were able to walk to neat places. The location is good.

There are other newer and nicer hotels downtown. But Inn & Suites is cost effective with a perfect location that also allows dogs. We were even able to check into our room a sightly after noon!

The hotel was reasonably priced for the location. The location was very convenient- easy to walk to downtown breweries, boutiques and restaurants. There was a pool and free breakfast. Aside from this, the hotel was sub par. It was old and in need of modernization. There was only a curtain separating the bathroom from the room. My reservation was lost even though I called to confirm it that morning. I will say the staff was friendly enough and discounted the room because of their mistake. Housekeeping knocked on our door at 9am even though we had a noon check out. Outside entry rooms as well. This hotel will do the job if you are looking for location and still paying under $200 (which was rare for the dates I was looking at). Otherwise, you may be better off booking elsewhere and driving/cabbing/ubering.

After researching many reviews of local hotels we (4 adults) chose to stay at the Downtown Inn and Suites despite many poor reviews, in hopes that we would have a different experience. I was happy to receive a phone call confirming our reservation for a single, non-smoking room with two double beds, 3 days before our arrival. When we arrived and began to check in, the clerk went over our reservation, which she stated was a single room, with one king bed for 4 adults. When I corrected the clerk, stating that we had a reservation for a single room non-smoking, with two double beds, she stated that they no longer had any non-smoking rooms available with two double-beds. When I attempted to show the clerk our reservation, she said that she would be happy to switch us to a smoking room with two double-beds. When I informed her that we did not wish to stay in a smoking room, she offered us a non-smoking handicap accessible room with two double-beds, the only issue being that the bathroom did not have a door, but a curtain.
Having no other options, we chose the non-smoking room which was handicap accessible. Due to the fact that the bathroom had a curtain and privacy was limited, we spent the entire two days of our trip using the public restroom in the lobby. I cannot understand how a hotel could confirm a specific room type, and then not have that room type available on arrival. We went into this with an open mind, and anticipated the cosmetic issues, extremely limited parking, and knew that this was not a 5 star hotel, but to not even have the room we reserved available is completely unacceptable, and how anyone believes that 4 adults could sleep in a single King bed is beyond me.
If it hadn't been a busy weekend, and we had been able to cancel our reservation and stay at another hotel, we would have done so.response / report this review -

So this is not a fancy hotel. It's old. You hear a lot of outdoor nose. The wallpaper is peeling. The bed is a little hard. But it is inexpensive, and it is in the heart of downtown so you are within walking distance of everything downtown. Their wifi is free and was pretty darn fast, and they offer free breakfast. Also, they are incredibly pet friendly.

I'm tempted to give this five stars not because it's perfect but for the price and location it's amazing for Asheville. It's very old so it's not pretty but it is extremely clean and well kept which to me means so much. King bed was very comfortable. Staff was very friendly. The pool is small but clean and private from the street, it faces the back rooms of the hotel. The front faces a busy road so not sure how loud that can get. The breakfast is free, good selection and again the area was extremely clean. Within minutes of checking in the front desk called to check how we liked the room. Also called to ask for extra towels and they brought them in less than five minutes. Parking is free. Our room price was extremely affordable (but we only stayed during the week and not on a weekend or holiday) included microwave, iron, blow dryer and safe. Check in and out times were not set so very flexible!! We'll be staying here from now on.

This place was over priced! The dark hair lady working the desk made me feel like I had done something wrong by staying there while I checked in. Her attitude and tone were not pleasant. She acted like it was my fault she worked at a hotel. The halls were dirty. I asked for extra towels and was told at first housekeeping wasn't available and I couldn't have any. Then I finally got 2 but only 2, for 4 people because "housekeeping hasn't come in yet." The bathroom was disgusting. The tub was covered in black hairs. We rinsed it out before showering. We laid one of the used towels down to step on because the tile had condensation on them. The towel became dirty brown from the floor.

Great value! Close to downtown. Only reason not 5 stars is because of the night security. I'm a 35 year old adult who paid over $100 to stay there. If I want to have a conversation with someone outside, that is my right. You have no reason to tell me to be quiet or go into my room unless someone complained (which they didn't). I don't need a chaperone. I'm not 16.

It's not the best place and not the worst. The location makes it super attractive but it's hard to justify the price on an older hotel. I've been in much better places for less money. The staff was great though So there's that.
