Enjoyed fishing of the shore of Cumberland. We took a charter out of Jekyll Island. Unfortunately boats on Jekyll are not allowed to drop people of on Cumberland.

Great island for a day hike! Take a ferry from Saint Mary's to the island and you can hike and explore this beautiful island that has Rich history dating back to the 1780s. See Robert Staffords plantation and ruins from the Carnegie's estate. Wild horses still roam the island that were once owned by the Carnegie's. Hike through the island to the Eastern seacoast to spend the day on the beach.
I have never camped on the island yet however I have walked through the camp sites and each site is surrounded by walls of palmetto bushes. Very private.
The reason for 4 stars is for the lack of drinking water on the island. If you plan on hiking all day, make sure you bring extra bottles to refill and carry.response / report this review -

Gorgeous wilderness. "Attractions" (mansions, ruins) are far apart -- if you're coming for a day trip, bring a bike. Our stay at the Greyfield was lovely -- dinner available there even for non guests with a reservation.

The history here is amazing. Wild horses, Ruins of mansions. You can only imagine the great splendor that this place once Had! Would go back again in a heartbeat!

I went on Tuesday, November 20th with my boyfriend. The weather was great for the ferry ride to the island, but we were both glad we brought a jacket. We did not need bug spray, but wore sleeves and pants just in case. There are some burs on the island, so we recommend sticking to the trails or roads when possible. There were a lot of wild horses out when we came. The horses and the ruins were my favorite things to see, but we also saw the museum and the beach. Bicycles are available for rent if you would like. Overall, it was a great experience.

A secluded island with feral horses just off the coast of Georgia! One of our favorite spots when were on the east coast. Explore miles and miles of the island including beaches, marshes, bushes, and forests with hardly a person in sight.

Visited for wife and family friend to get stamps in their national parks passport. Talked to ranger about the park and its museum. Spent time in the museum going through the displays. It was very informative and free. Could not go out to the island itself as we arrived after the last ferry departed. Visitors who want to go to the island should check the park web page for the very schedule and allow plenty of time to arrive, park and purchase tickets.

Beautiful place. Hiking is all flat land. Wild horses are abundant, but seen most often in open areas, dropping are prevalent on trails. Cold water showers and NON-potable water at Stafford Beach campsite. Plenty of live oak trees to hang hammocks. Fire pits already there but dead wood maybe harder to find. Saw palmetto everywhere makes it difficult to scrounge for wood. Be prepared for mosquitoes, ticks and lovebugs in the summer.

Beautiful Stunning amazing. This place is untouched by our modern world. Breath taking Sandy beaches on one side and untouched wildlife abounds everywhere.. bikes are available​ a small fee. (sometimes free) overnight camping is also available for a small 4-5$ fee per night.. tours are given on the hour at the standing Manor house@ 'plum orchard' a quite bike ride down the island.. or walking is always a nature lovers option.. never many people on it's beach.. get in touch with your inner self on Georgia's largest barrier island located in St. Mary, GA

Camp cheep expensive ferry.. brackish taste water at main camp.. 45 dol island tour very worth it after sunburn and explore on own.. need own cart for camp on beach all alone with horses 2x.. no one in sight at all

Full of wildlife. Lots of things to see. They offer tours. Came here for a backpack camping trip. The beach is very nice and empty. My group hiked the beach for 3-4 miles to get back to the ferry dock from Stafford Beach and came across less than 10 people. The beach is always breezy. The amount of bugs depends on season. Stay hydrated.

We came just for the beach! It was beautiful! But it's a bring everything on take everything off kind of island. Walking the 1/2 mile loaded down with a cooler, chairs and a 4 year old was a bit challenging. It was gorgeous though! I'm not sure we would be back though.

Cumberland Island is simply amazingI've been there now 6 times. You won't regret spending a day trip there or a camping-weekend. Stunning all around
