There is no such thing as a bad meal from coops. The meats are beyond tender and have the most incredible flavor. Bbq sauce is added at the table (but is certainly not needed). When I'm craving southern food this is where I go. They have greens, red beans and rice, and cornbread that even my grandmother (who is born and raised southern) loves. The owner is super nice and will come around to chat on occasion. Everyone who works here is helpful and friendly. Whenever I meet someone visiting San Diego or a new transplant, this is the place I tell them to try.
The best BBQ I have ever had outside of Texas! It blows Phil's bbq away. The meat is so tasty, you don't need to add sauce like you do at Phil's. I usually get a full rack of pork ribs with two large sides. The sides are all very tasty. All of their meats are very lean and tender. They even smoke turkeys for Thanksgiving!
I have heard great things about Coop's and I went and tried it with my wife. It's a small place with no frills and you order at the counter. The food was great. I had the brisket plate and my wife had the ribs. The brisket was good but the ribs were better. Good BBQ sauce and the sides were tasty. It's a little on the pricey side but good BBQ is hard to come by in San Diego so it's a nice spot.
Really great bbq. I like it without the sauce. Very tasty. Mac and cheese, the baked beans and the red beans and rice are top sides. Big fan of the beef bones. Prices are a little high. They offer daily specials. Tuesdays pork tips , etc.
Sliced brisket was great! Red beans and rice was different from what I am used to buy a great flavor. Collard greens were perfect! Just tender enough without becoming a paste and not overly bitter. Just a great complement to the brisket, rice and beans. Sweet tea is some of the best I've found since living in San Diego (been here for about 7 years now). The smell when you walk in is outstanding! I was stuffed and still hungry from the smell alone! The counter service was good too. Overall great experience.
Best BBQ in San Diego. Family run and great food.
I have been enjoying this BBQ a lot and bragging about it. I had a friend recommend a California BBQ joint nearby. I wanted to compare so I spent money to test the competition. I was disappointed with what people were comparing Coop's to. I won't stray away again this is my BBQ hookup.
Love coming here. The good is always outstanding service is always great. A huge plus is that the owner always comes by and asks how everything is going or even just to say hi. I can truly respect that and love it.
I'm not a meat person..but that's where my husband wanted to go on his birthday. The food was amazing & the staff very friendly. Will definitely be going againeven licked my fingerssomething I never do 😮
Coops is a pretty basic Restaurant. You order at the counter and then take the food to eat at the few tables. No alcohol is served. Their BBQ is probably the best in San Diego. Well with getting off your way to come here and eat. Best in town easily.
The food is awesome the mac and cheese incredible the ribs are tender and juicy not dry like most the service was great other than that rate it for yourself let your taste buds make up your mind
Absolutely love Coops. It's been great everytime I've come here, friendly customer service and a cozy setting. Hot links are on point, have recommended it to family and everyone loves it.
This is the first time I've felt compelled to leave a review. I got the beef BBQ rib plate with baked beans and macaroni and cheese. It was quite literally the best BBQ I've ever had. The depth of flavors in everything was delicious: smokiness and seasonings of the ribs, real cheese in the macaroni and cheese, very flavorful baked beans, even the BBQ sauce on the side was complex and tasty, also the sweet tea was on point. This is a place worth repeated patronage. Also, the customer service was phenomenal. 10/10 would recommend!
As a southerner recently relocated to San Diego, coops is probably the best bbq the county has to offer. Nice size ribs. Brisket consistency and taste is 9/10. BBQ sauce is a great compliment. The chicken is a shocker in how good it tastes. All in all, this is one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego.
Friendly and polite would come back here again and again. Cool atmosphere and cool old school music. Nice portion size. Family oriented and clean place to eat at. Even though the line is almost out the door I would highly recommended.
