So many amazing train cars, locomotives, and historically correct consists. They also have a nice HO set downstairs, interesting but not overwhelming displays of uniforms and signs, and friendly staff. The price is fair and they are preserving an interesting slice of rail history. Please take the rattlesnake warning signs seriously and be gentle with the trains you climb into and onto. It's a treat to get do close to the mighty Iron and it's important to respect its condition.

Took my 62 year old Dad here. Great display of actual locomotives and rail cars. On Saturdays they even had the model railroad club out testing their trains. Would recommend you look ahead to see what times on Saturday they startup a live locomotive and give rides around they park.
Extensive model trains and museum inside. Great history lesson on the expansion of railroad through history.

I honestly wasn't sure if I would like it. Took the kid here and he loved It! So did I! Not too much walking but trains are spaced out enough. Train was fun, but pretty busy. I recommend doing this first. Quick step back in time when wandering through these old trains. Much more interesting than I expected. They had 2 food trucks, BBQ and pizza. Both were local joints and had good options. Worth a trip to come see, you may be surprised with a good time.

This is a great place to come and explore. My toddler loved all the trains he could climb on and explore. We took a ride on the Galloping Goose train for additional price. There is a large covered area to picnic but bring your own food as they do not sell food here. Outside they have a garden train set that wasn't running when I was there. Inside they have a small museum with interesting things to look at and areas for children to play. They also have a HO train set you can watch through glass that is so intricate you can look at it for hours if you wanted. We could easily spend 2-3 his here more if we took a long picnic.

This museum is a fun way to spend an afternoon. It was not very crowded so it was easy to walk around and enjoy really looking at all the trains. There were so many different trains from throughout history - it was amazing! Inside, there is an exhibit for kids (but as an adult, I enjoyed it too!) that went through the alphabet, explaining various historical facts or technical facts about trains. In the basement, there is an elaborate mini train exhibit that is amazing! Outside, you are free to roam and many of the trains allow you to get on them or in them so you can enjoy them from a different perspective. We spend about 90 minutes there and we would definitely visit again.

Fun place for families & train enthusiasts alike.🚂 Nice Museum to teach the kids about trains & train history, and see some cool artifacts and artwork inside. Bring Grandpa and Grandma along too, not just the kids. Free parking & clean restrooms. I'm usually in the gift shop though, checking out the great selection of new & used books. Finish the drive by checking out the working railyards just a few miles West in Golden along the same road. 🛤

Exciting place to visit and learn with the whole family. The largest G scale setup in the state, plus a massive HO scale train model in the basement plus a new ABCs of trains exhibit with tons of interesting facts and artifacts. More trains than I can count around the ground including historic engines, cars, and many of them are operable. Train rides every Saturday, and several times a year they have special events where you can actually ride their 100+ year old steam engines. Very unique place.

Most of the railroad cars were closed on the Tuesday we went, and the outdoor model railroad was not running. There are a number of rundown cars sitting in almost a junk yard. There were a number of employees working but the library was also closed. The best part is the downstairs mini museum and the play area for kids, but only on weekdays. You also have to pay for the indoor model railroad. Only $.25 but it is in addition to your entrance fee. The crowds on weekends make that area unpleasantly crowded. Not bad for a morning with toddlers but unfortunately not great.

Most of it is outside, so bring sunscreen! Really interesting for train lovers. There are cars you can enter and a huge collection of restored cars and engines. The bulk of the museum is the collection outside. There is a brief exhibit inside on the ground floor. Downstairs is a large and beautiful model train display. There is also a rotating exhibit that was being worked on while I was there.

I came to see a Galloping Goose or two and I saw three of them. I also caught a steam locomotive being manually turned on the the turntable, which was very interesting. Also enjoyed the model railway in the basement. Walked around and had a look at the other rolling stock. Some of it would obviously not roll any more. But still in much better shape than what I found Travel Town, LA, CA.

This is an easy review for me. My family has visited off and on for 15 years. It is very family friendly. Staff are all train fans and know what excitement it brings to young children and encourage that excitement and imagination.

It is a live museum, meaning they try to restore historic trains and run them. The loop might be small, but it's the experience of being pulled by a historic locomotive on a historic trail car that is important. Different locomotives run at different times. The loop includes a steep grade to get the locomotive working up hill, a rail crossing at the parking entrance, water tower for refilling, and down hill to experience braking. Being short, the track allows many riders to experience the thrill in busy weekends, or experience it multiple times on less busy weekends.

There is plenty of old locomotives and rolling stock to visit and learn history from. The roundhouse is set up to view the active efforts for restoring this important history.

Local staff are very knowledgeable and answer questions about the history and museum. The museum is affordable and all inclusive. There are only a few special events that cost extra.

We often picnic at the museum and have hosted several birthday parties on our own (not through museum, which is an option with the red caboose). There are lawns, benches and now a new covered pavilion.

Don't forget to watch the large garden railroad, and the model trains in the station basement.

This museum makes for a great afternoon, or even whole day for the die hard train enthusiast and entire family.

This had the potential to be much more enjoyable than it was. Most of the the engines and cars were closed, even the ones where they had built stairs going up to them; all you can see is the outside since the windows are so high. There was very little information about the cars and engines near them, so it was more like walking around a train grave yard than a museum. I would have liked to see signs telling me about each piece. Little kids and people who already know a lot about trains would probably like it, but as someone who likes to learn new things at museums, I was disappointed.

Not as impressed as I though I would be; with that being said the museum is still a place I'd recommend visiting. We went for Thomas The Trains Day Out and it was fun for the kids, we just though the train ride would be more than four laps around the property. For $25 a ticket I expected more.

With that being said, there is unique Colorado history and it's as if you take a time machine back into the early 1900's. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable.

While the admissions price is arguably a little bit on the pricey side, this place, on a regular day, has loads of trains and history to explore. Our kids have a blast anytime we go, and it's always interesting to wander the grounds.
I would say, however, the special events are probably the best part of the museum. We did the Thomas day this weekend and it's one of those really magical types of things for the kids that make it truly amazing. We'll certainly be doing the Polar Express event and looking into the other major events that the museum puts on.

They made a great effort for halo ween. The train ride was fun. Lots of the trains were not open for display or being used for private parties. Given this the admission price seemed high.

I had a membership here as a child and went multiple times a week until I was about ten. This place owns a piece of my heart. It's changed a lot over the years, but the nostalgia never does. Love CRM til death do us part. Hours of entertainment for youth and adult train lovers.

Lots of great history here, kids love it. You could spend hours waking in an out of every railroad car if you wanted. The train is fun too, although it's very short. You actually go around the same track 3 times. Little kids think it's great though.

Took my 4 year old son for the Thomas the Tank Engine special event September 2016. Was absolutely amazing and I dare say I had as much fun as he did. Was very busy but the staff and volunteers did an incredible job managing the crowds and keeping the trains moving on schedule. Parking was a little intense as we had to park over a mile away and shuttle in, but the shuttle was free and there were several shuttles going at the same time, keeping the lines down. Everyone we talked to was friendly and informative. It was a great time and I have no qualms about getting tickets next year. Thank you!

Our families favorite dinner restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Most of the wait staff has been there for the eight years we have been going there. Friendly and kind. The food is great. Standard dinner fair but with Spanish influences. Biggest and best breakfast burrito in town, if your hungry get it! And they often have great specials, we often order form the specials menu.
Portions are good and the kids menu has lots of options.
